Filibusta Yellow Spots

I've already googled this but I'm still unsure if it's some sort fungus problem and I've already gave them potassium so I'm not really sure why these yellow spots are appearing still, and what sucks is a lot of the newer leaves have acquired these yellow dots and even the new ones that are coming up so I'm confused also the water on the leaves in some of the pictures is from morning dew.

Heads up on cheap Repti Bark
by Keys6505- 7 replies

Just an FYI for people who use bark in their mixes, I just got 24qt bags of Repti Bark for $7.69 per bag at Petco. I think it's a mistake on the website but the store honored it even though they were still ringing up $28.99 in store.

Scippia Blues

Schippia looks sad. Lots of dried leaves. I had him in about 3 hours of direct sun (east-facing) and now he's in about 6 hours, closer to the window. Seems to be a bit wet maybe. Area is hot and humid, trying to make it like Belize, where he's from. Even the lead leaf opening up seems to have brown, dried areas. Any ideas how I can help perk this guy up?

Hello, I’m doing a landscaping project that needs a 6-10 ft cordyline australis, I’ve searched all over online for a container farm or any place that sells them but I can only find ones in the UK. Does anyone know of a place anywhere in the US that sells the size cordyline I’m looking for?

Kentia palm dying
by Rp11- 1 reply

Hey, I got my kentia palm 2 months ago. I have been watering it once a week. Recently I fell down and I added some more soil and watered it but this time the soil got soggy. And after one week it is still very wet and soggy. If it's a situation of over watering, help me with the solutions.

Hi all, I have this large Kentia palm potted in my house (in Melbourne Australia). I'm noticing the odd leaf getting a light strip down the middle? The palm is in the corner of the room and gets indirect light from 2 windows. We have central heating but I've closed off the vent nearest the palm. Its fertilised with osmocote controlled release at a weak amount. I have also got sulphate of potash magnesia but haven't used it on the palm. Some of the lower fronds have a blotchy, yellowish appearance and are a bit curled but they've always been that way . Any tips?

My licuala seems to be struggling. The leaves are turning brown even on the new growth. I live in Central Mexico where the average humidity ranges between 25 and 60%. Am I not watering/misting the leaves frequently enough? Any advice would be appreciated

canariensis Pineapples in planters
by Palm Sundae- 5 replies
I'm getting ready to transplant a couple P. canariensis from 11"d x 12"h nursery pots into standard size planters. Either 17"d x 15"h with 11"d base or 20"d x 17.5"h with 12"d base. Could use some input on a couple of things. One, the drain hole(s) are pretty small compared to nursery pots. Should this concern me? Change my watering habits? Drill more holes? I'm worried that a couple of small holes will just get plugged up over time. Two, is there any reason not to go directly to the larger size planter? My only real concern here is the diameter and what that will do to the drainage since the soil will hold a lot more water than I am used to. The general …

I had this palm outside all spring and summer, no problems it was happy and thriving. Then last week my stupid goat escaped his pen and ate 4 frons and took a nibble out of the rest of them (he also ate my strawberry plant !) Then I come back later and find the my stupid cat was gnawing on the stems and broke 2 more frons ! In desperation I took it inside and try to clean it up but I probably made it worse Is there any tip y'all could give me to make this better. Thanks

Lytocaryum weddellianum with brown tips

Hi to everyone. I recently bought two of these little palms for a really low price (even for Argentina, where everything is expensive) and both of them already had, at least, one leaf with brown tips, really brown tips. I think the main reason for this was very low humidity at its old emplacement, but I want to hear other opinions and some advice to avoid this.

broken fronds or something else?
by spike- 1 follower

I recently purchased two raveneas in a pot from a garden center, and as stated, one is a variegated one, the larger one, not shown in this image. Currently acclimating so it's inside, but the small one has almost toppled over. It could just be me accidentally snapping all the fronds, which were thin from lack of light, while moving it, but I also don't 100% think so. Could this be root rot? I've seen something similar in other plants. Could this be something else? I've included an image below, thanks for any help! Also, in case you were wondering, larger one doesn't have any visible concerns. But they were buried very deep, like at least 1.5 inches above the growth point,…

Describing palm sizes by container size
by D. Morrowii- 2 replies
I’m having trouble understanding palm sizes as they are commonly referred to by container size. I’ve purchased palms in 4” containers that were larger than ones in 1 gallon even from the same supplier. Is there some general criteria to determine what size you palm is? Or is there a good reference or book that explains maturity stages of a palm? Is it just root space or growth? Reading through the forum I’ve seen it brought up that a 15 gallon palm is a good safe size to plant out a marginal palm or that a certain palm was planted out at 3 or 5 gallons. What are some practical ways to think about this?

Finally Phoenix Roebelenii

Finally after 5 months of watering this pot every other day, I finally have 2 sprouts out of 52 and the others must not be far behind! I'm excited to finally see them after so long I'm gonna update their growth and progress here overtime. I do have a question though, when should I start to bring these seedlings in since it's fall now and it's gonna get chilly eventually, Should they be fine as long as it doesn't reach 30F right? or maybe mid 40s since their so tiny?

Hi, A few of my exotic palms started to get brown leaf tips what seem to dry out. They are in the shade all day, get misted during hot season 2x a day. I am not sure why this is happening. Can it be water related? Too much water? They shouldn’t have nutrient deficiency since I use time released Florikan twice a year. Particularly it is happening to my Pelagodoxa Henryana, Burretiokentia Dumasii, Kerriodoxa, Licuala Mapu and the Johannesteijsmannia . I attach pics. Any idea so I can change the issue hopefully?

RIP Groot :(
by JohnAndSancho- 2 replies

I dunno what happened. If you remember from previous posts, Old Groot was more of a neon/snot green than normal, I assumed due to sun exposure. I got him back to normal and aside from being more short and bushy than tall and majestic, he seemed healthy. He had a lot of fronds die off at once, but a lot grew back - they all dried out almost instantly. Today I get an email from my apartment manager asking me to move my plants due to wind risks from TS Nicholas (btw you might be a palm dork when your apt manager emails you about that), and oof. Groot was white and brown and spear pulled. RIP to the green buddy that led me to Palmtalk, all of you wonderful people…

Verschafeltia splendida and/or Hydriastele (Siphokentia) beguine as a houseplant? 1 2

Has anyone been successful growing Verschafeltia splendida and/or Hydriastele (Siphokentia) beguine as a houseplant? I was visiting a Florida nursery this week to see about purchasing Pelagodoxa henryana seedlings…until I was completely distracted by potted palms I’ve never seen before: Verschafeltia and Hydriastele (Siphokentia). Stunning foliage on these two. I decided to research these prior to buying. Additionally, as I am flying back to frigid New England soon, the logistics were not in my favor. The smallest Verschafeltia measured over 36” (too tall for carry-on dimensions). I thought about Fed-Exing them home, but then saw that temps in Rhode Island would be …
