I have several potted Majesty and Christmas palms, that came with the new house, that are potted with a white rock topping. I gave them a little sprinkling of my Florikan 8-2-12 Palm Blend, but what I feared, happened. I am no expert, but I believe it's the iron in the fertilizer that gave the white rock topping a rust looking stain on them. And it is my thought that this iron is really important. LOL All of that said, any fertilizer options to keep them healthy that won't rust up my rocks? 😎

Hi! This is my first time taking care of a palm tree. Lately, there have been brown spots appearing on it that look like rust and they are mostly on the top of the leaves. I don't know what the problem is. Can anyone with more experience help? For more context: I don't know the type of palm tree as it wasn't bought. The seeds came from dates that were from Saudia Arabia. It's potted and I think there are 4+ seeds in it all sharing the same space. I don't think that might be the problem since they've been growing just fine. The palm tree grew up inside and then we took it outside during the spring and summer so it could get more sun. HELP! Lipstick palm in crisis!

We purchased this palm about 4 months ago second hand when it was thriving. it is in the same pot we purchased it in. We noticed it’s fronds we’re turning brown and drying out so we increased the watering. It continued to perish so we cut back the dead//dried out parts. there is new growth but now I am concerned about the black spots I found on the three main stems that died. we live in tropical Darwin, Australia where the weather is always warm and mostly humid. Please take a look at the pictures I’ve attached. Any advice about what I should do from here will be so greatly appreciated! Thank-you in advance : ) Rikki : )

Time to Repot?

These sabal seedlings (minor, causiarum, and mexicana) are all around 1 and a half years old, and their roots are beginning to bust through the bottom of their 12inch deep grow bags. Should I try and repot them now, or is it late enough in the growing season that I'd be better off waiting until next spring? These are actually the first palms I've ever grown up from seed, so I figured I'd ask for advice here before making any hasty decisions. Here are pictures of some of them: I also have some cdp seedlings that are growing very vigorously. I'm assuming out of all of them these are the most in need of being repotted?

Cone-tainer Roots Growing Out of Bottom - Is this a problem?

I don't know if this is an issue or not, but almost all of these germinated seeds have roots coming out of the bottom of these cone-tainers. Bizzy: S. Schizo: What's weird is that they haven't even pushed through the surface yet. Should I up pot them already? They can be moved from the 8" to the 11" cones if I have to but can that really be necessary before they've even put out a strap leaf?

Hello, first post here. Sorry if it should be in a different thread. I came home last week from a 6 month trip to some pindos in 65g containers looking pretty rough. We are in coastal North Carolina in 90 degree days with not much rain. Before I left I drilled extra holes in all my big pots and hooked them up to the garden drip line. The person looking after the house ripped the irrigation hose out of some of the pots with the mower in the spring. Noticed one month ago and watered them every day after months of just minimal rain water. The soil is 50% Miracle grow palm soil, 50% sandy fill dirt with a bag of compost mixed in. I germinated a few sabal Bermuda seeds about a month ago and they are working on first strap leaf, I have a 3rd that's a little bit farther behind. I am absolutely amazed by the roots on these things though. I had them in 6 inch pots to start, and then before anything even poked above surface of soil each pot had a long root extending 3 inches out the bottom of the pot. I repotted them into 0.7 gallon pots about a week ago and ALREADY there are two roots coming out bottom on both sides in each pot. Curious if anyone else is growing seedlings of these and what your experiences have been. Curious on what to expect

Not gonna lie, I'll probably repost this in a busier subforum. But here we go. I bought more Alaska fish emulsion, some humic acid/liquid seaweed, chelated iron, and Bonide systemic insecticide. Am I stupid or is this a good mix? Did I spend too much money? Will this be the anabolic steroid I'm hoping for?

Well, here's the moment of truth of certain tropicals growing in my yard. Some I put in the ground last fall, starting with my eureka lemon, along with my pineapple guava; (the pineapple guava had two flowers this past spring, but no fruit as of yet, and the flower petals are deliciously sweet) and fig tree (the fig tree back in June already had a few fruits) which was put in the ground last fall. How much care must be taken to separate Washingtonia seedlings from a community pot? I’ve collected some 50+ seeds and will have plenty of room for 50+ trees but present circumstances may not allow for 50+ nursery pots. If I put 10 germinating seeds to a 5gal pot and decide to separate them during the strap leaf stage by hosing the dirt from the roots are they likely to survive? Is there a better method? Pics of some parents, just for good measure.

So my seedling has been doing much better. I just wanted to know two things. 1) Do I need to trim off the dead leaves? If I do, can I grind them up and add them to the soil for the plant? 2) Are these weeds or are they small plants that are helpful for the seedling? Thank you,

Hello everyone, Great to find this place. I have had a chamaerops for a month, re-potted when i got it from the shop, and would like your advice as to the best way of taking care of the plant based on the issues i have encountered. - Leafs had some spots since i got it, maybe they have got a little worse; - There is some bending on some blades/leafs; - Tips seem to be brown on some leafs. Plant has so far had some really hot summer with over 35 celsius, it is exposed to sun most of the day and i have been watering every 2 days or so. Any advice would be welcome.

Hi! I changed the pot for the palm trees, Livistona chinensis and Saribus rotundifonia, to a deep pot of ceramis - pine bark - leca mix 2/5 - 2/5 - 1/5. It had been in bad soil and in a low pot. I move it to the half shadow (2m from south window. Other is next to the other window. I had thrips (midsommer time) and I used systematic poison for my plants. Hey y’all. Hope everyone’s having a great Friday so far. I am in need of some advice on overwintering a Coconut Palm I bought from a local grocery store back in May. When I bought it, I didn’t realize what I was getting into from what I’ve read from others online. I really would like to see it live, but I understand they are truly tropical palms. I live in Zone 6B in North Carolina. Is there anything I can do when it goes inside for the winter to better its chances for survival? Thanks.

Hi, I have some palm seedlings (Archontophoenix, Caryota and Ptychosperma) which I keep indoors, but they seem to not really get lush green leaves. They Kind of turn transparent after time and don't Look 100% healthy. There are no spidermites on then I think. Is it a lack of nutritions?

Queen Palm in Pot- doing well??

I have a queen palm in a pot and it looks to me like it isn't doing well. Fronds bend and droop down- with brown tips It gets watered once every 8 days for 6 minutes. I live in northern california- the pots do have drainage holes. I have fertilized them twice in the 3 months I have owned them. More water? Less water? more fertilizer? any advice is appreciated.
