Since I've just planted my first two palms this year, none of them in the pics. Also, I've just started gathering some cycads too, so none of them. Mostly xeric stuff. Some of the pics are recent and some are as old as this past January. -Ron-

I got this well over a year ago... one of the last big purchases I made.. Anyway, I had all but given it up for dead, but the caudex was firm, always seems to attract scale... and well, I've learned to wait a loooonnnggg time here on the coast. Just to show how fast it can happen, Gary Levine was here I think last Sat, and I saw this Mon.(2-3 days later) I think the pic is from Tues. Hooray!

Something for all our fruit lovers
by Silas_Sancona- 6 replies

Wanted to pass this along for everyone on the forum who, like myself is a tropical fruit junkie.. Adam Shafran of Flying Fox Fruits, and Pete Kanaris of GreenDreams FL. got together to post the 1st of acouple YouTube videos chronicling Adam's extensive rare fruit collection in Central Florida.. I'd post a direct link to the video but, 1. I stink at linking things, lol, 2, my lap top is currently down, 3, the video is 38 min and I'm not sure if videos of such length exceed what can be posted here.. If all good, perhaps someone a bit more technically schooled can post up the link.. would appreciate the help. Regardless, you want to see this.. Lots of Jaboticaba porn …

Well, due to harassment of myself by a certain occasionally inebriated Palmtalk member, I did something with this today... Any guesses?.. and "just" what I did does not count... why was it "kinda momentous?

Hello everybody, Here's the very young seedling: When you guess what it is, I'll post a picture of what the plant looks like now... Ps: I can assure you that the only reason I've got the plant is for it's beauty, nothing else! Now it won't be too hard to guess anymore I think Cheers, Kai

I got this plant about this time last year and planted it out immediately. I know this plant has a reputation for being drought tolerant but this was that way from the get-go. Anyway, this is the 'Silver Peso' form. It rained all night so the leaves are still wet and the green shows through but normally it is silvery grey because of all the fine white hairs on the leaves. This plant got fairly battered a few weeks ago with all the high winds but it still kept its little buds fine. There are about 10 or so clusters of buds on this 30-inch plant. It is supposed to be slow growing and eventually becomes a 12-18 foot tree.

I bought some Mussaenda frondosa and about 5 seeds sprouted two months ago. The seedlings are tiny, the kind of seedlings that look like they could perish if you just blow on them. Yesterday I had 3, in two pots and suddenly the two in one pot died. Now I am left with just one. This one too looks poorly. I put them out under shade and sun during the day recently, temperatures are warm and there is no wind. Back indoors at night. I guess the few hours of direct sunlight wasnt a good idea.. Is there anything I can do to save this one? The medium is coco coir so I added some iron and a very diluted fertilizer.

Recent rule changes effecting the Florida railway system are making my pull my hair out. My wife and I purchased a home about 3/4 of a mile from the train crossing along the East coast of FL about 3 years ago. No issues with train noise at all. About a year ago, the rail system installed much louder horns. Now they've implemented a ruling where they must blow the horn 4x at each intersection. There are 5 intersections within 2 miles of my house and you can imagine the noise. 24/7, 365 days a year. Tired of waking up at 2AM from train horns. While I wait for community action I need to install a shrub line on the back corner of my property to hopefully block som…

South Africa Is Trying to Protect its Endangered Cycads
by John in Andalucia- 0 replies

Some of the recent forum ads for cycads are interesting. I have a few Macrozamia moorei and Bowenia spectabilis courtesy of a forum member, but that's all. This article, which is now ten years old, discusses micro-chipping of endangered species that have been "disappearing" from the wild. The article can be found here.

Mike Harris and Jeff Searle both have two of the nicest private palm collections in South Florida. While attending the tour, I was amazed seeing all the Palm accent plants. Lots of wonderful colors. As Randy (Palmisland) states, they are "palm jewelry ... " Starting of with The Mike Harris Collection. Corot - a not very often encountered cultivar.
