I have a 15ft Ficus lyrata, Fiddleleaf Fig, in my front yard that has been shedding some leaves after the recent cold. I noticed some of them looked abnormally large. I picked out the biggest and brought it to work; 20 inches/51cm. Didn't know leaves on F. lyrata got that big !

Defoliating tree I.D.

I'm posting the three below photos on behalf of a person who lives in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was out viewing various cold damage (as a result of this month's earlier prolonged cold event) and noticed subject tree, but wasn't sure what the genus-species was. The tree almost reminds me of some sort of ficus, but it's probably not, plus I don't see any aerial or subsidairy roots. Can anyone I.D. this tree or at least take a guess, then maybe I can google it. Thanks.

Who wants pine trees?
by Creekside- 13 replies
- 1.3k views
I have about 80 slash pines, of which more than half quite large, and I would like to remove almost all of them. Since this would obviously be a huge expense, I was hoping there might be someone who would cut them down in exchange for the timber. Am I dreaming? Can anyone offer information or a contact person, if you think this is a possibility?

I was at the Tropical Plant Industry Exhibition (TPIE) show yesterday down in Ft. Lauderdale. I didn't get as many photos this year as I was helping with the judging.By the time we were finished I was too tired to walk around again. But there is always some interesting tropical plants and new varieties. Outside the entrance to the convention center. Nice planting of bromeliads and tall coconut palms Alocasia 'Loco' Anthurium 'White Heart'-these were good size flowers several inches across Colocasia esculenta 'Mojito'

I would like a tree that would grow super fast to give me some quick canopy to place a coconut palm seedling under (for protection from frost and so that it leans out to get to the sun) Something that would have good enough canopy, enough so that frost doesn't form under it, in as little time as possible. When the coconut under it has about 5 feet of trunk, I want to remove the tree. Any suggestions on what to use?

How wide do these tree trunks get? I have a planter that is only 10 inches wide by 6 feet long. Would this be too small? I am in Southern California where they may stay thinner. Thanks for the help David
