I thought this one was a goner after last summer where we hit a high of 117F. I almost dug it up and moved it to the shade but now I'm glad I didn't. Fully recovered and acclimated to this spot now.

Not palm related but I have this in my palm garden. This in my Eucalyptus Neglecta. It is a little over 6 feet tall. I planted it in march,2020 as a 3ft tree from Plant Delights nursery. It has never been protected other than good sighting. It was un phased by a winter low of 4 degrees Fahrenheit and two weeks below freezing during the arctic blast last February. Cincinnati zone 6b.

Palms for southern coast of Korea?
by Neolitsea- 4 replies
Hello there, I am a new member from South Korea. Although I currently live in northern part of South Korea where it is impossible to grow palms outdoor without protection, my father have a parcel of land in Boseong, in the southern coast of the Korean peninsula, and he have allowed me to plant things there. I want to plant some palms in my father's plot, preferably something more exotic than common Trachycarpus fortunei, and am currently raising some seedlings of Butia odorata, Rhapidophyllum hystrix, Serenoa repens, Sabal minor, and Sabal palmetto to plant there. However, I am unsure if they would be capable of overwintering reliably without protection there,…

Needle Palm absolute low vs extended low

Hi everyone, The weather is finally going to warm up a little starting next week. My question is does anyone have experience with Needles consistently experiencing night time lows in the upper 20s? I know that they can survive well below that for absolute lows but how about in and out of freezes? I would like to air mine out as it has been covered in leaves and boxed since Thanksgiving. Below is our extended forecast. Thanks!

fall planting?

need some advice. This is my first year growing palms Spent all summer digging holes and planting palms. I have quite a few still needing to put in ground. In particular I have 2 15ga Bismarks. I live 5 miles from beach in heart of San Diego. Our weather in San Diego is pretty much ideal for planting year round I would think. We don't really have seasons. As next week we will have 4-5 days in mid 80's after this rain. Should I hold off planting any more palms for the year and wait till spring? I have about 20 palms growing on my patio, we never get frost were I live, never below 40 degrees. So I think I can leave out throughout fall n winter. I was thinking ab…

Fungus
by Las Palmas Norte- 4 replies

I'm off to the nursery to have them recommend a fungicide. This nasty stuff has appeared on one of my T. fortune palms and extends about 2' up the trunk. I think what I'll do is strip all the old leaf bases and fiber off as well. We've had above average rainfall so this will spread if left unchecked. Here's what it looks like now. I'll post again when I attack this fungus with tools and fungicide. Cheers, Barrie.

On inpulse I bought a very small 40cm bismarckia. I allready got a blue in the ground so This will need to go in a pot untill I move. Some questions: can I plant it in a really large pot right away? Is 1part compost 1part peatmoss 1/2 part perlite with some bonemeal an ok blend? Do they grow slow in pots? can they get fairly big without a gigantic pot?

King Palm started to grow (already)
by NorCalKing- 4 replies

So with our last few weeks running in the 60's my Archontophoenix cunninghamiana has started to push out the latest spear about 1/4" in the last week. I'm curious when most people start to water and fertilize again? Also, it seems the tip of one of the spears suffered some frost damage from our early season cold snap, I'm wondering will this harm the whole frond, or will it only effect the very end where it's turned brown?

Hey All, I think a few of us bought these, but is it too early to tell if I really have a Birmingham? I am finally getting a new leaf and it is indeed very blue, more so than my minors, Brazoria and Louisiana. Makes me hopeful it’s really a Birmingham. Anyone else have thoughts on it or experience identifying? Thanks in advance - Nate

Hi, we had three windmill palms planted in our yard March 2020. The middle palm is having trouble. It continues to put up new in fronds, but they turn brown shortly after. The other two are fuller and produced yellow flowers this year. We live in Wake Forest, NC. what do you think is happening? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Hey! I’ve recently rescued a group of three cocos nucifera I found laying on the floor without any care at a market here in Mexico City. After I got them I got curious if there was any possibility of growing them given that the city is at 7,500 ft of elevation more less and I ran into some interesting cases in neighboring cities where they grow at basically this elevation with little trouble. Maybe the fact we are inside the tropics has cooperated! Does this mean it’ll grow here? the most interesting case in my opinion are this palms growing at 1960 m over the sea level in the neighboring city of a Queretaro, which is north of Mexico City and more prone to get cold f…

At a house in the SE Jacksonville area. I know the owner so nobody was alarmed haha. They’ve been in the ground since around 2017. I almost thought these were coconuts! They looked flawless even after the deep cold we got a week or two ago.
