Brazoria Flower Spike

My trunking Brazoria, after 7 or 8 years in the ground, has decided it’s time to flower! It has really big fronds and grows under the much taller Trachy so they kind of set each other off…no other Brazorias I know of in my area, so I’ll probably cut the spike when fully extended to direct energy into growing. Really has been a journey with this one…touch and go winter of 2014-15 but here it is today growing like a tortoise…but I do love this palm…watch it send that flower spike out like a lightning bolt and the next frond out like an emerging stalactite… .

Suckering Radicalis

Seeing a bit of mixed info about whether Chamaedorea Radicalis is a suckering or running palm. Some say yes, some say no, some say sometimes! Specifically trunking form I suppose. I have what looks like a shoot coming up from a 3 trunk 5g. It looks suckering to me or was this intentionally planted this way and this a seed sprout? Does anyone have a suckering trunking C. Rad? Appears pure by the flower stalk location and height. Just want to try and anticipate this things growth for placement. Thanks for any feedback.

My tallest Trachy

Here's my Tallest Trachy . It's a female . I thought males grew faster , maybe due to the fact that they don't use energy to produce seed ? OK , I'm lying , I wanted everyone to see my Yucca rostrata . I hope I don't get in trouble by the Palm Society authorities , but that female Trachy was a tiny little plant from PDN about 16 years ago . Wow , time sure flies ! Will

Sabal "Lawrence"
by N8ALLRIGHT- 12 replies

Ok so I bought this from PDN and I have to say it's a very nice plant! Had heard they tended to sell smallish palms but I was pleasantly surprised. So does anyone have any idea or opinion on what variety this actually is? My guess is "Mccurtain" but that's just a guess. Allegedly survived -10 or so, found in Lawrence Kansas. I have a little collection of sabals and took a few comparison pic's. It doesn't have a heel even though it came in a small pot, very developed saxophone ,uppotted for now as I don't know exactly where it is going yet. 1st pic is from left to right Louisiana, Mccurtain, and Lawrence. Then just the Lawrence. Thanks for looking

First time getting seeds

This may not be the biggest harvest, but it will be fun to grow my own. This palm was also grown from seeds, bought on ebay. I guess it's would be sound advice to keep it in it's container to avoid a shock? and risk losing these seeds?

Trachy aborting blooms

My trachy is flowering for the first time. It's a female. If you just bump or brush against the bract, all of the blooms just drop off real easy. What's left looks like broccoli stems. I'm wondering if this is normal for the first bloom. Like a trial run?

After the 2021 cold spell, I purchased this robusta from Houston Garden Center for $75.00 in April 2021 and planted it in the pool area of the apartment community I manage as an Earth Day gift. It's amazing what proper feeding, watering, and TLC can do to help a robusta just take off like a rocket ship! Westchase are of Houston, Z9a

Yucca Rostrata

I have a Yucca Rostrata, as seen in the pic. I am concerned that it could split where each head splits. What can I do to reinforce the tree to prevent that from happening? Whether it happens through high winds, or from snow weighting it down in the winter. Will take any suggestions.

The title says it all. The website is still online. I have placed an order within the last year and never heard anything from them. I am assuming that they have either gone out of business since the Deep Freeze last year or are slowly recovering from it. Does anyone know what's up ? -Matt

Just Say No
by GregVirginia7- 16 replies

Went to Home Depot to get deck sealer and saw a “Pindo” palm…grower from FL. It was $70.00 in what looked like a 2 gal. pot. I’m in 7a/b…NOVA…and as tempted as I was, I said no. In fact, I told myself that’s not why I went anyway. I’d love to have a feather leaf type palm in my little environ here but I know, even in our best winters, they won’t survive without massive protection…but it really gets tempting to give it one more try, which indicates past failure even under protection. Any suggestions for a butia (spell check turned butia into BURIAL ) that may do well with minimal protection? I see people on this forum in NC with variations on the butia theme and they seem …

What To Do for Damping Off?
by JDH23- 1 follower

Greetings everyone, Not too long ago I bought some Trachycarpus seeds and began the germinating process. For the seeds that I bought, I’ve noticed that mold has begun to form around some of them but they have not yet germinated (if anyone has advice for what to do with these, such as how to disinfect them, it would be appreciated). However, the seller included some freebie ‘Winsan’ seeds and those have germinated. Upon further inspection, though, I’ve noticed that there appears to be a fuzzy white mold growing along the root system. It isn’t the easiest to see in the pictures, but it appears that the seedlings have begun to “damp off”. Since these…

Help - Sylvester Date Spear Pull
by joetx- 1 follower

Hey Y'all, I planted this Sylvester back in March. There was one slight freeze after planting (32F). About a month ago the middle fronds (spear) pulled. I used copper fungicide and hydrogen peroxide. Still no new growth. I don't really water it, but decided to today as the soil was dry down about 4 inches. Any thoughts on what to do, if anything? Was going to wait until fall to finally call it. Thanks!
