Hello All, After just having my second winter in a row of falling into the teens, I am having a zone denial giveaway of some of the palms I have been keeping in my greenhouse, but will never be safe in the ground here in the 8B/9A border region. I am located just northwest of Houston (Magnolia, TX) and am giving away the following to anybody that wishes to give them a better home (preferably closer to the coast, inside the loop or as a patio plant). There will be no shipping of these palms, so PM me if you wish to pick any up. 4 Beccariophoenix Alfredii (~3 gallon pots) 2 Beccariophoenix ???? (labels wore off, thinking madagascariensis) 3 Gallon Pot…

Free Hybrid Ceiba Floss Silk Seeds

One of my big tree interests is Floss Silks and the numerous species that make up the group: Ceiba: speciosa, crispiflora, chodatii, insignis, rubriflora, schottii, pubiflora, jasminodora, and others. I have approx 60 grafted trees in the ground here of unique flowers that I’ve found exploring around. With those, I’ve made numerous hand-pollinated crosses to try and obtain new unique flowers. I don’t have the room to grow enough of each cross out to see all the combinations, so this past summer I distributed approx 1,000 tagged seedlings throughout the area for people to grow in their yards. I have approx 10-12 of each cross in peoples yards (see map of locat…

Hello Palmtalkers, Keith got me thinking with his post... I Have a L. decora that has fruited and the seeds are ripe. This is the first year it has fruited and it's very exciting. The fruits are just starting to fall off the tree. I was curious if anyone wanted some? I have many. Send me a PM and leave a note here as well. I will cut the seeds down in a few days and dole them out. If you want to send a buck or two for postage, cool- but let me get them mailed out first, I have Paypal. If you don't want to send a buck or two no worries. Thanks.

Chamaerops "NorCal Special"
by Darold Petty- 6 replies
- 1.4k views
Chamaerops humilis v. argentea (aka 'cerifera') I purchased this palm as a 5-gallon plant in 2005. It has a very nice blue color, and it holds the color even in a shady location and a very humid microclimate, I selected this palm from a few hundred of its siblings at a nursery on the east side of Fallbrook, CA. It is distinct in the leaflet form, and has two ranks of leaflets, one above the other. During a visit by Dr. Dransfield he remarked that this was a most unusual feature. The main stem is about 8 inches diameter and 16 inches tall. I have decided to remove this palm, as I planted it too close to the public sidewalk in front of my home. Eventual…

7 Species - 35 Seeds
by Small palm- 1 reply
- 1.1k views
I currently have 7 different species of palm with a total of 35 seeds. I will list the species below with the quantity. I bought these seeds last spring (2016). I've been trying to sprout them over the last year, but I've had no luck. I know Palm seeds usually need bottom heat from a heating pad to sprout. Scarification can help them sprout too. I haven't tried bottom heat or scarification on these. The only reason I'm selling these is because I need to make room for some other seeds that I will be growing later this year. I don't have time or room to grow a large variety of plants. There's no guarantee they will sprout, but I gave them the water float test and they…

A friend has grown his Pachypodium for 13 years and this is the first time it has produced seed pods. Knowing I am in touch with lots of plant enthusiasts, he wanted me to offer the seeds for free to any takers. Easiest to provide to US residents who will pay shipping. There are possibly 200 - 300 seeds. I have never grown the plant and know nothing about germination. The grower thought it was a palm, but now he knows better. Any takers?

Hi all, I have 5 plumeria seedlings that I have to give away due to lack of conditions at my place. Sown in January 2015 , they have up to 50cm of trunk. In case there will be anyone interested, I would ask you to cover shipping. Due to that, offer is rather limited to European growers. PM me if interested, would be nice to give them a happy, more sun oriented home Those are my first exotic plants, grown from seeds. Chamaedorea oreophila, (was C. monostachys)
by Darold Petty- 5 replies
- 1.9k views
This palm is considered the third most frost hardy, after C. radicalis and C. microspadix. Unfortunately in my very cool, humid microclimate the palm is afflicted by thrip. I gave away previous plants to a friend in a hot, inland area (Brentwood, CA) and the thrip problem went away, his palms are growing well. I purchased these three 1-gallon plants shown in the photograph as a second attempt to grow this species in my garden. They are mature, and two have flowerstalks. However they have been damaged by thrip also. I don't care to attempt to control the thrip with chemical pesticide so I offer them for free. The only condition is no shipping; you mus…
