I always like to take pictures of everyday things when I visit another country... sorry, most of these shots are through the windows of legendary BUS #4 or a taxi!

Most of my pictures from the Amazon pre-tour feature our fellow travelers and the people we met along the way. But I’ll make sure to throw in a few palm pictures as well especially in the later posts. Here’s a teaser: first, a fisherman cruising in front of a stand of Leopoldinia major; second a hillside of Euterpe precatoria, both pictures taken on the Rio Negro.

The Biennial in Thailand in September this year will be memorable in so many different ways. We may have record attendance (previous "record" was 220 at the Biennial in Thailand in 1998 and a close second was the one in Hawaii in 2004 with 200). I believe we will also have a record attendance of first-timers AND of PalmTalk members. Never before will so many PalmTalk members have met at the same time. This will definitely be your chance to meet fellow forum members! And experience Thailand AND Nong Nooch! So, let's see who is going to be there. Please do a Copy and paste of the list below, add your name and as much, or as little, information as you feel comfortable with,…

Hello, I need to know the dates of the Miami biennial to progress any arrangements I need to make, are we getting closer to known dates? There are some other events that coincide around the March period of 2014 that I may or may not be involved in depending on when the biennial is set. I need to know very soon, sorry to bug anyone, I understand Ray is Chairing. Hi Ray. I would have thought that accommodation would have been organised by now, has it been ? (yes, that's a leading question) Thanks for any updates. Wal

Rio de Janeiro Biennial

I decided to post a few photos of our trip to Rio last year as a teaser to the upcoming event. I've just noticed, from Bo's post in another thread, that many reservations were made in the last few days and that the IPS is contacting the hotel in Rio in order to book a few extra rooms, so I guess a great participation is expected this time. We'll also be attending the post tour to Minas Gerais and São Paulo, guided by Prof. Harri Lorenzi, and I was wondering what other members of Palmtalk are planning to come for this Biennial and the pre or post tours that will have more people participating, in April. Here are some pictures taken during our last trip to Rio, in Ju…

We saw a presentation (by Dennis Cathcart of Tropiflora.com) on the Singapore Botanical Gardens. Looks like a very unique garden where they spared no expenses. Has the IPS given any thought about making that a post or pre trip option ?

I have a lot of random shots that don't really belong in any of the other threads (Faces, for instance), so I'll be adding them in this thread. A few now and then when I have time. Feel free to add whatever you might have, and in no particular order, even though these five happen to have been taken the very first morning (Wednesday September 12), as we were leaving the Grand Four Wings Hotel in Bangkok.

A few pre-Biennial pics

The last couple of days I've had the pleasure of meeting and spending time with Jerry & Cindy Andersen and Al & Silvia Bredeson when they decided to come a few days early and spend it here in Manuel Antonio. Their first day here we went over to my friend Alexander's spice farm and he took us on a tour to look at of some of his palms. First stop was his prized Zamia which his wife had saved from a nearby area that was being developed. He says it gets at least 3 cones per year. Al, Jerry and Alexander checking out the newest cone Heliconia, I think he said this was "Splash" Native heliconia growing in an unplanted area of his property

While at the Arenal Volcano, Dean - El Moderator - and I discussed the possibility of taking several photos and combining them to form a panoramic shot. Here is my shot(s). Still needs a little tweaking, but it is going to be one of the photos that I will be printing for display at my house. RainForestt Robert
