Well I thought it time to make my move in the old ohanna Nouie nouii, oh baby, I gotta go. Yi-yi-yi-yi-yi Nouie nouii, oh baby, I gotta go. So what's some music you've heard lately you like, that's at least new to you ? For me, it's Bryan Ferry's album "Dylanesque". Excellent covers of the man, especially "Simple twist of fate" and "All along the watchtower". Another is Bob Schneider, some great songs by this guy. What's got your attention music lovers ?

Howdyall: While in Florida, I was forced to get a new camera, since memory cards for my old one were no longer to be found. Went to Best Buy, with the following criteria: (1) had to have a zoom lense, the zoomier the better; (2) had to fit into a shirt pocket when not in use; and (3) had to take a standard, as opposed to proprietary battery. I found it! A Canon SX100 IS. All of the above. For just under 300 clams, literally $299.99 including tax. Plus another 14 for a 2 Gig memory card. Oh! Scream, etc. If you're into drive-by pornography, like me, this camera works great. Ahem. Here's a shot a long ways off.

So the pohon and I are planning our much anticipated, second-long distance, PRA adventure, this time to Florida. Anyone got any travel advice? What to see? Who to visit? Where to crash? Cheap hotels in the area? What areas to stay in? What time of year? Were looking to escape the frigid CA Winter and will probably be traveling sometime between December '09 and Feb '10. Let's hear some ideas!!!!!!!!!

I have met a cast of characters on this forum (I mean that in a good way), and many people here have some interesting things they do in their spare time. Bill races Tuscans, Ken likes to fish, and Jeff Searle plays paintball, and Bo has his airplane hobby. What do I do? Some people on here that know me know I am somewhat of a firearms collector/enthusiast. The great state of Florida allows for people in good standing with the law to not only purchase firearms, but carry them concealed with the proper training and paperwork. Many people hear about gun brands, here are pictures to go with names. Smith and Wesson Model 66, .357 magnum. This was a commonly used gun by …

Living in The Florida Keys 1 2

I don't think we have any members from the Florida Keys that post here but I was windering what it is like to live in some of the Keys. I have been to K. Largo and K. West before. But what is it like to live in, say, Islamorada, Big Pine, Marathon, etc..... I know the palm growing is great (so is the fishing). Are they nice places to live with lots to do? Or, are they too slow and seem more like staid retirement communities?

What does electricity cost per kwh where you live?

Most of my friends and family in the States have the impression that everything in Guatemala must be very cheap and that the cost of living must be very low.Nothing could be further from the truth.Guatemala City is the second most expensive city in Latin America. I just got my latest electricity bill and divided the total by the kwh used and my real cost per kwh is $0.27 per kwh. I think my brother in Houston ,Texas pays around $0.10. Our service is incredibly bad and our electricity is out atleast 8hrs per week.We had an outage in January that lasted 3.5 days! Everyone here has to have generators to survive.

Boots ARE my dress shoes. Or at least I should say I have dress boots. The Ostrich are super comfortable. The most comfortable I ever owned were Kangeroo skin. Incredible comfort, but expensive and they didn't hold up well. Now I have to admit I am as hard on boots as I am on plants, and everything else for that matter. Same thing for Lizard skin boots. They just don't hold up well for me. I am surprised that Florida has not developed a great niche market for Iguana boots, or maybe they have. If so, I might bring home a pair from my upcoming conference and vacation combination. I looked at some Elephant skin boots, but they were like iron. We have a niche …

Next year I plan on redecorating my back porch and patio area. Personally I am not a big fan of torch lights and tiki statue. I do like looking at them. My personal style is more global than that. I plan on doing a moroccan - bohemian style for this area. So my question is what styles are other doing? Share a picture if you like even if it is only tiki statues. I am just looking for ideas? Thanks!

Dead Barn Owl found 1 2
by MattyB- 43 replies
- 7.5k views
Jen found this barn owl, dead in the garden this morning. This is one of the most beautiful animals I've ever seen. They are our best predator for gophers, rats, and mice around here and they can be seen and heard screeching around the canyons every night. They often make a flyby on our living room windows and are a beautiful silent white streak across the sky. I hate to think that secondary poisoning, due to my rodent poison, could be the cause of this animals death. Someone from SD county vector control came out and picked up the bird for testing of West Nile virus since it's recently dead and in very good condition. Look at the eyes! It looks alive still. It d…

I posted a thread on this before and got a bunch of negative feedback. A lot of people accused me of making this a bigger incident/issue than it really was. Well, one of my main points was this incident would be worse than the Chernobyl disaster, when it is all said and done... but when will it all be said and done? That's the issue--Japan will not be safe for a very long time and the ground water contamination combined with the leaks flowing into the ocean make this a serious issue with no end in site. I live less than 4 miles from a Nuclear power plant and the thought of losing my house due to an accident is very frightening! Japan has now turned off all of their Nuclea…

Does anyone know how to keep raccoons away!!!! 1 2
by Stevetoad- 1 follower

I've been at war with raccoons. They get into my little pond eat the fish and destroy all the plants in there. As of this week they discovered a taste for bromeliads and went ahead and destroyed a good chunk of mine. I've been live trapping them for over a year and they just keep coming. I've caught about 25 or more. I've been releasing them about 3 miles away and am thinking they are coming back. So now I'm going to take me with me to work and let them go 33 miles away. I DO NOT want to kill them. I just want them out of my yard.

Every once in awhile, I like to pause and consider the phrases that I unconsciously sputter while searching for the right words. Annoying phrases tend to accumulate like lint, and it's important to recognize them and purge them from my vocabulary periodically. I stumbled upon this list, and concede guilt to all but abomination #8. Note that this is a British source; certainly we Americans have some foolishness of our own to add. For now, I'll just past the article and list, but perhaps I'll add a few of my own later, and I hope you will also. Yeah, yeah, yeah (ode to the Fab 4) another music post. This time let's hear what you consider to lines from a tune that have withstood the test of time (and the 90's an 00's). Has to be a line that makes a song instantly recognizable; such as... "Snot running down his nose.........." (for all palmophiles) "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot" "She's filing her nails while they're draggin' the lake" "The fury of the hour, anger can be power, you know that you can use it" (only for original punks here) Xtra bonus points and a free home version of Jeopardy if you give me the song titles above. Let's go!

Do annuals exist in the tropics?
by jrod- 12 replies
- 6.6k views
Here is a question that really stumped me. As some of you may know, I'm a horticulture student but I'd like to see if anybody had any answers to my question. We are growing many different types of annuals in one of my greenhouse classes such as petunia, calibrachoa, lantana, verbena, geraniums, Coleus, bacopa, Alyssum. The other day I was in the greenhouse and one of my friends asked me, "If I keep these plants in the greenhouse over the winter, will they still die?" So I told him, "No, they'll live." After I said that, another student said, "Yes, they will die." I didn't really want to argue but from what I understand, annual plants are mostly perennial in the…
