A bad day for my Harley!!! :(

I was going thru a blind curve at the speed limit of 55 mph. 65' In front of me is a stopped car for a downed motorcyclist! My bike needed 75' to stop, ugly math for the bike. I hit her at about 5 to 10 mph. I wear riding gear and have no injuries. My friend that laid his bike down to avid running me over is ok to and so was his bike! The cop said there was nothing I could do to avoid the accident but it is 100% my fault. I agree with him. It's just one of those sucky things in life.. As soon as I got home I jumped on my Honda and rode it to In & Out Burgers! All is good... Randy

A big hello from Arequipa

Greetings from Arequipa, Peru. Wow, I am so far off the palm radar here. I miss the countryside! Still, I'm very happy - loved up, and planning to return to Spain in September with my soon-to-be wife, Gina. She graduated last night from her Christian studies, and here we are (Gina's Dad, left) with the Pastor of Arequipa at the Christian Centre. I arrived at Lima, Wednesday 23rd February at 8.00pm to a bustling crowd at the airport, and 10 minutes later was flying around town in the back of a taxi, totally captivated both by the beauty at my side and the comparative poverty and manic driving around me. This is a woman I had known only via 5 months of email conver…

For those of you in the Sacramento, CA area, we are in the process of trying to convince the city council to convert the financially strapped Land Park golf course into a botanical garden. If you are interested in signing our petition, please click on the link, which will take you to our new Facebook page. Please only sign if you live within 30 miles or so of Sacramento. In order to make the petition legitimate it must be signed by residents of our area. Our goal is at least ten thousand signatures. We are doing this by a combination of online and paper petitions. A car
by Ciczi in Sweden- 11 replies

Since today is my day off I have been home and doing things just for the fun of it. An hour ago a large boom and whole house is shaking. What the....? First I thought it was an earthquake again. (Yes Sweden had an earthquake 10 months ago) but then I looked outside the window and saw a red car too close to my house. There's a car entrance parallel to my house and some 10-12 cars pass through here every day. The driver had misjudged the entrance and had ran the car in my house. I went out to see if the house was damaged in any way. There were no damages to the house but loads of red fragments from the car on the ground and a piece of the front bumper. Luckily for me th…

Hi All, It nice to be back home after a 9 day stay in the hospital. On Feb 20th I collapsed on my kitchen floor and an ambulance was called. The hospital is only 5 minutes from my house. Upon arrival I was conscious, but I don't remember much from the first 3 days. Day 2 and 3 I was in IC and I don't remember any of that. and maybe it's just as well. It was found that I had a huge ulcer in my small intestine and it had eaten into an artery and I was bleeding profusely. I really didn't know I had an ulcer. It was found I was very anemic and my blood count was only 9 where normal is around 14 to 16. The leaking artery was cauterized and I was given 3 units of blood. O…

A cooking mystery

Slowly, and silently I worked my way around the back of the group, carefully judging which one to grab and most likely to go without a fight. Finally I saw my mark, quickly reached in, grabbed its hard neck and twisting with all of the force I could muster. It was motionless in my grasp, it’s lifeblood now gone. Into the kitchen I went, grabbing a cleaver and offing its head with a single clean blow. Next I turned the cleaver sideways and whacked its head several times until I felt its structure shatter. I reached in through the skin and scaly mess to retrieve the Pièce de résistance, the moist and tender flesh, which I mixed with spices and ran through my grinder. Before…

A couple of interesting maps

I found these maps online, they show where Australia and New Zealand would lie if they were situated in their current latitude except in the northern hemisphere. I was surprised at how much closer to the equator some of our cities and major towns were in comparison.

The 51 year old VW Baja Bug I've had, and modified for the last 6 years... The 36 year old Suzuki Samurai, I bought about a month ago... It is bone stock except for the rims and paint... The Samurai will go any place the Baja will, but at a much slower pace... A 1.3 liter engine, and short suspension travel, won't allow for any speed off-road... Both fun cars in the desert, but at a different pace.... Butch

Dear all, as I have prepared some egg salad about 10 minutes ago, I thought it could be a good idea to share this special recipe with you. We talk about a very special kind of this salad - this of my grandma and my mother from Dresden (Saxony). Dresden (Saxonian) Egg Salad What you need: 14 eggs 2 big onions 1 bunch of chive 3 tablespoons of medium hot mustard about 400 g of mayonnaise a pinch of black pepper salt (as you like it) 1 tablespoon of sugar Steps: 1. Eggs into a pot with cold (!) water. Bring them to the boil and let them simmer for at least 10 minutes. It is important to have hard-boiled eggs. 2. Meanwhile you cut up the onions and…

A different airport

Thought this was kind of a neat photo. This is Victorville in San Bernardino County, inland from Los Angeles. It was formerly known as George Air Force Base. Today it's a major storage facility for airliners from all over the world. There are other storage facilities in southern California (Mojave) and Arizona (Marana, Goodyear) and some of these are also major scrapping facilities (primarily Goodyear and Mojave). Victorville is mainly a storage facility, and most of these airliners WILL fly again after there's been a bit more of a recovery in the worldwide airline business.

After nearly 4 days of sitting in the same clothes in a very hot building with no electricity or hot water, I was feeling very grubby and uncomfortable. Every time I moved about, even a slight wriggle, I heard crunching noises. I was dying for a bath and something clean to wear so when a couple of boxes arrived with donated clothing, I was practically at the front of the line to get some. First box contained knickers (underpants, panties whatever you call them) When I realised that they were 'pre loved' I decided I could manage without any a bit longer. One volunteer, handing them out, got a bit snippy with me and assured me that they had been well washed. I had to say th…

Southern Adelaide is getting a new tourist attraction in the form of a Buddhist centre. Originally a 30 meter tall gold Buddha was planed to look out over the southern beaches but a compromise was found so here is a 18 meter tall granite Buddha. The site is still under construction but soon the statue will be surrounded by gardens and cultural buildings.

a good laugh at neighbor's expense
by Gonzer- 15 replies

Our neighbors across the street don't like me (who does?) because my REAL garden smokes their garden which is all silk plants and a 4' robusta who's leaves she trims to look like a Licuala orbicularis. They had their 12 year old submit a letter to the manager complaining about all the Schizolobium flowers that fall her way. Next thing ya know I get an Oh-Fishul complaint from management (they don't like me either) telling me to shape up, fly straight, and clean up my mess. As the photos show, barely 12 flowers at a time make their way across the street, they all fall on my drive. So I copy the complaint and add my own handwritten notes and lay 'em on both parties…
