I have mentioned in other post about going thru and scanning some old family photos, slides and negatives... I have, while researching some of the people and places, found a great source for an old magazine... "The Desert Magazine" of the South West... There are free download PDFs of 534 issues from 1937-1985... You can also get everything on dvd for $10... These are fantastic old reads... After Nathan's great posts on the desert, I thought I would put these out there... http://www.swdeserts.com/archive master 37 85.htm Butch I have no attachment to the sales of these dvds

(For US residents) Visit Cuba right now?

Scheduled airline flights, lots of them, from the US to Cuba have just begun, and I suspect they'll end fairly soon, maybe sometime in February. That suggests it's time to set up an urgent, emergency visit for educational or other approved purposes (we can't just be tourists). Ideas?

@!!!% Water Bills
by palmaddict- 15 replies

IPS, I know this subject comes up every so often. I live in San Diego and have about an acre of land. Half is tropical and the other half is an open space that I plant but leave as a xeriscape that is fed by drip irrigation. Well I opened my August/September water bill and it was $680 for the combined months. I was astounded but not really surprised. The water companies have fixed costs but through raising prices and ads people have cut their use. Thus they have had to raise rates again to drive the same revenue. This is not going to end. As a result over the last three weekends two areas of lawn in the front of my house have come out. One I turned into a dry …

$$$ Twenty Dollars $$$ 1 2
by Jeff Searle- 54 replies

A certain youmg lady I know just recently told me that she lost a $20 bill while working in her yard on saturday. As of today, she told me she has not found it and I don't think she really spent much time in the yard looking for it. I'm just not too sure on this. So.....my question is, if this was YOU, how much is $20 worth? Would you be out searching long and hard looking for it? Even at night, with the flashlight? Would you loose sleep over it that first night? Ok,OK...you might think I have too much time on my hands. It's a true story though and I thought the sub-forum here could use a little "something different". Jeff

$2,000,000 house in Spring Valley?
by MattyB- 26 replies
- 2.2k views
Those of you who know San Diego, know how surprising this is. A 2 million dollar house listed in Spring Valley, 91977, not 91978. That's right! This house was probably near 5 mil at the peak of the housing market but now it's a steal at 2 mil Anyway, I know exactly where this house is and dude, if you want a sweet micro-climate at about 600 feet elevation on the south facing slope of Mt. Helix, with 4 acres and a natural, year round, stream then this is the place for you. Go to the photo gallery and check out all the pics of the mansion and especially the property. At least you can set up a sucker in the spring/stream and you won't have to pay for water. 4255…

That is the price of a hotel room in space becoming available about 2022. 'Houston-based Orion Span hopes to launch the “first luxury hotel in space” — the 35-by-14-foot Aurora Station — by late 2021 and bring guests on board the following year. The hotel will accommodate up to four travelers and two crew members at a time, racing them around the planet at high speeds for 12 days,.." Sometimes, the ads on TV were better than the programs. Which, I suspect happened across the pond as much as here. In this youtube vid, there's a whole string of adverts for everything from frangrance to beanz. My favourite is the one with pre-Dynasty Joan Collins in all of her brunette glory getting soused on a plane with a very debonair gentleman . . . . CLICK HERE FOR A TIME TRIP

2010 Winter Olympics

Unless you live in a cave somewhere, the 2010 Winter Olympics are about to begin this friday. I personally enjoy watching the games even though I never grew up in cold weather, let alone in areas that see snowfall every year. Some of my favorite sports include hockey, some of the downhill skiing events, snowboarding, and bobsleding. Do you remember the Jamaican Bobsled team? With such a large worldwide membership ( many from cooler climates) I would like to know who's getting ready to watch some olympics? What's some of your favorite sports, and, has anyone ever attended a winter olympics and where? Jeff

Last time I posted about the tourney no one really seemed interested.... Easy to keep interest when your team is still alive but so far this has been a fun tourney for college basketball enthusiasts. I have Florida winning it all in my office bracket, playing Wisconsin in the final game. The Wisconsin pick has me already winning my office bracket. Really awesome to see the Billion Dollar Bracket challenge busted in the second round.

All this surf talk on PT has made me think of the surfers that most influenced the sport: 1. Duke Kananamoku- HI...He popularized the ancient Hawaiian sport. 2. Rabbit Kekai-HI-USA...He is one of the innovators of modern surfing; was a beach boy at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel and I was lucky to surf with him in Hawaii and later in Costa Rica. 3. Micky Dora "Da Cat"- USA...famous for making surfing a rebel lifestyle. 4. Gerry Lopez-HI-USA...Great surfer and founder of short board LIghtening Bolt brand. 5. Mark Richards-Aus... 4 World titles, rode Lighhtening Bolt surfboards 6. Simon Anderson-Aus...Invented the 3-fin "thruster" which is the indust…

Whether its because of all the canceled plant sales we could have attended, plants we couldn't purchase, wacky weather events.. or the many other reasons to blame it for, No doubt most of us are ready to watch this year quickly disappear in the rear view mirror.. In the mean time, saw this video, courtesy of Zero Gravity media, and thought i'd share here.. ...Totally relatable, lol
