Web Site Changes
by Ken Johnson- 1 reply

I have no idea what the new web site will be like but I have "heard" enough things to know that it will function as a very modern site that will be member driven, much like PalmTalk is now but adding another dimension. I hope to see some news from Len here on PT soon. He is looking for help so those of you that want to get on board early maybe here is your chance.

Wedding Bells

Yes, it's finally happened....I have been proposed to and accepted. Not just a titled gentleman, or even from the nobility, but a prince no less !!! I'm not letting it go to my head and get all uppity and insist on being called Your Royal Highness, plain old Your Royal Peachyness will do just fine. Of course in public you will have to use the formal title or Princess Mbokalulu in the third person. I'm setting all the arrangements for the ceremony in motion but tonight I have to email the prince my bank details so he can forward some of the royal jewels that are to be mine. Guess I will have to give the palace a makeover too. Anyone know a good decorator in Nigeria ?

Here's some pics of a new cactus garden area that I'm working on. I plan on extending the light colored gravel on the pathways, and I want to use a combination of native rock, brown gravel, and D.G. as a ground cover in the planting areas. My question is about weed fabric: Should I put down weed fabric first or just put the gravel right down on the dirt? I've used weed fabric in other areas and I still seem to get weeds/grass germinating in the gravel a little bit. But I've also put the gravel down with no weed fabric and I don't really think I get that many more weeds. The weeds come from the top I think. I don't know. I'm just splitting hairs and making it more…

Weeds of Sydney 1 2

I am in a volunteer bushcare group that seeks to replace weeds with natives, so I thought it would be fun to show some of our most troublesome weeds. Anredera cordifolia Madeira vine. If any plant could be called evil, this is it. Aerial bulbs can drop to the ground and germinate even after the roots and lower stems of the vine have been removed.

I planted 4 Parajubaea, 4 Thuja Green Giant, 2 Sweet Olive, and a Needle Palm. I also root pruned a rose, a Sweet Olive, and a Mimosa that want to move at the end of the month. I also treated my Foxtail Palm, and a Bizzie that was transplanted at a bad time, with a little fungicide/miticide/insecticide to counteract the bad effects of the recent freeze. So, what did you do in your garden this weekend. Keith Note to Wal - See, I plant palms and conifers. In the humid subtropical climate who knows what is coming. Hedging my bets in all directions.

A few of my palms have been attacked by weevils. Its happened before and the palms have recovered but this time one of my Dypsis dark mealy bugs have suffered more damage than usual - luckily my second dark mealy bugs appears untouched. I want to get on top of those weevils before they cause too much more damage. So what's the best chemical to control weevils?

Weird but true: only in Florida
by PalmatierMeg- 22 replies

While I was repotting succulents this afternoon a guy my husband once gave plants to pulled into the driveway. Seems his buddy in Ohio wants to get rid of the alligator he's been keeping in his basement that past 15 years. Would I be interested in taking it? FWIW, it's against Federal, State and local laws to own, keep, feed, tease or insult an alligator.

weirdest estate sale EVER

jes & i stopped by this sale on a saturday which was not too far from my place.as soon as we rolled into the parking area we knew something was up cuz it was PACKED. i started taking pix in the kitchen. the place felt haunted. you can see that everything had a "hand-made" look. someone had obviously built the place themself & they only "kind of" knew what they were doing. the kitchen had weird touches, like the cabinets you see & weird shelves built out of plywood & not quite finished, then add 50-60 years of wear. the "library" had an awesome wood paneled ceiling.there were elements that looked like they just didnt fit. creepy hallw…

Well Contractor In Tampa Area
by buccaneers37- 6 replies
I think it is about time for me to check into getting a well (if I'm even am allowed to have one). Hand watering is taking up way too much time and I know my palms & citrus aren't getting the amount of water they should. I have no clue how much this will cost me, but, unless it's outrageous, I think this is something that will benefit both me and my plants. Do any of you have suggestions about a well (size & depth) and is there a contractor in this area you would recommend? I have a small amount of property (1/3 acre) but LOTS of stuff. I have done a lot of research on the internet & it doesn't look like there are a lot of contractors listed. Any help will …

I figure the odds are 50/50 it was one of you (or one of your friends). There was a pickup trunk in front of me on Sycamore, just north of the 78, with a Ficus dammaropsis in the bed. That's a pretty good clue it is someone into tropicals.

Late March to early April is my favorite time of the year to go driving through California’s outback. The one time of the year the hills are green and, if you’re lucky, you may be treated to a display of wildflowers. Usually try to make a trip up to the high desert north of LA to visit the State poppy reserve, where in a good year you can catch a beautiful display as seen in the pics from 2005 and 2008: We hit the road the last weekend in March to see what we could see. Unfortunately, it was cold and windy at the poppy reserve, so all the flowers were closed up.

What a great place to sell COOKIES!
by DoomsDave- 2 replies

Oh, yeah. Gotta love this girl! I'm curious to know how, exactly she came to choose this spot to sell her GS Cookies (of Doom). Outside a legal pot dispensary. In San Francisco, Old Megalopolis, CA. Everyone, can we make a pretense of civility here? http://money.msn.com/small-business-smarts/latest.aspx?post=abfc9157-3352-4376-8279-56f315d27840 "Thirteen-year-old Girl Scout Danielle Lei has gainfully confirmed the age-old aphorism, 'Location, location, location.'" "When the San Francisco tween set up a Girl Scout cookie stand outside of a marijuana clinic called The Green Cross earlier this week (pictured), sales were unsurprisingly blazing."

What a mess - do not click any of the scam links
by UK_Palms- 11 replies

Just a heads up that similar links that were spammed onto another online forum resulted in users having personal information and credit credit details stolen. Do not open the posts. Certainly do not risk clicking any links in there by mistake. The site must have been hit by bots or ransomware/Trojan or something. I have noticed it more and more in recent weeks. They are hoping someone accidentally clicks a link and they get your details from your desktop. Be careful. Hopefully mods can take them down but there is like 20+ pages of it spammed. This is certainly the worst case of it I have ever seen. Very annoying as we can’t see the most recent legitimate posts o…
