Different kind of air purifier
by JohnAndSancho- 7 replies
https://algenair.com/ A guest saw all the plants in my office window, and told me about these. He asked me if I had all the plants to clear the air and provide oxygen - sure that's a benefit, but it's mostly for the vibes. Anyway, at $250, plus monthly refills, it's probably not for me. But still kinda neat.

Tiki carving
by BeyondTheGarden- 6 replies

I dont know that this is technically a "tiki" but that word gets used for everything oceanic it seems. I tried a Polynesian design at first but I'm evidently not good at them. This was my first woodcarving project, I'd like to do more as time allows. I can't be the only one... who else carves tiki? Care to share?

Someone must be devoted to growing Colorado Blue Spruce or Hemlocks , etc , at their southern limits.... Do they run air conditioners on them during hot spells ? Do they seek out varieties more tolerant of heat ? Are they nuts like us ?

Aquatic Habitat

I have an artificial pond and stream that is central to my jungle. I currently have goldfish, Japanese trapdoor snails (very small), water hyacinth, pickerel (Pontederia dilatata), some unknown temperate water lily...and some stringy moss that isn't too bad to maintain by hand. And some kind of rush. I'd like to add more plants and animals and turn it into more of a micro ecosystem. I'm looking at Peltandra virginica and tadpoles, will have to order both of these online I think. I am open to any and all suggestions. I'd like the frogs to stick around but the stream water moves quick, not sure how to set up a slow moving/stagnant area just for them. I had K…

The very recent 'Palm trees in Minecraft' topic made me think of some of the more realistic and possibly identifiable Palm trees I've seen in PC games. There have been a few, but one group stood out for me when first encountering them in the game, Path of Exile. As a Palm nut, I did a serious double take when encountering them and I had to photograph... err... screenshot them; often in a hurry due to combat. The background design artist of the game must have used real species as a base, as they are very realistic. The game's developer, Grinding Gear Games, is based in New Zealand, so maybe that had something to do with the desire for palmy accuracy... - I…

What do those numbers in brackets stand for? I know they indicate contents of basic nutritional elements, but why are they in brackets and differ from the bold printed numbers, and what is their significance?

What do you think? Do you pull Clayton Kershaw after he strikes out 13, has no one reach base and still going strong, in 7 innings of perfection?... Tough call, but that's what Roberts did the other night... I really like Kershaw's attitude about it... He said it would have been nice, but he was in it to win a championship not the personal glory... A lot of guys would have thrown a tantrum, but he calmly went along with his mangers decision... Class act from a classy guy.. And great pitcher... Butch

Why does the Desert smell like rain, when it rains? New research article may have answered that question
by Silas_Sancona- 4 replies

Great, new article released by researchers at the UofA ( University of Arizona, Tucson ) discussing in - depth research of that weird, ..and welcomed " smell " anyone in the desert instantly recognizes when it rains, especially during the summer months. Seems there may be numerous health benefits for Humans, other critters, ..and the plants themselves as well.. Pretty cool. Nice to have a front row seat to the research, and benefits. https://uapress.arizona.edu/2022/04/why-does-the-desert-smell-like-rain-new-ua-research-suggests-the-diverse-osmocosm-of-the-sonoran-desert

Selections have been made, brackets are being set ..so who will win it all this year? While not exactly the biggest of sports geek.. have payed attention to College hoops since living in the land of everything Kansas University and interacting with many players on the team at the time who frequented the bar i worked at for several years.. ( ..a certain, former player, who everyone considered a tough guy cried like a 3 year old when he got kicked out of our bar one night.. No names. ) let alone seeing the well beyond sports impact former K.U. coach Roy Williams had on the community of Lawrence itself... He's just a cool guy as is anyway.. To this day, if i see a Ka…

Will be back out here in time for catching the Palo Verde in- season again, and ..hopefully.. sometime after the start of Monsoon season, IF this year is wet enough to warrant a check in.
