Backyard Birdies 1 2 3
by putu enjula- 87 replies

Of course the first thing that struck me about the Big Island was the scenery... the second was the sounds... which, when you practically live in the forest, come from the birds. The bird situation here is very interesting... there's different types of bird populations.... there are: native birds (what's left of them), the birds that were officially released, and the escaped pet birds. The only bird in Hawai'i that also lives in SoCal is the House Sparrow so I wasn't familiar with any of the birds here except two (the other being the screech/barn owl). So I bought a book about birds of Hawai'i and put up some bird feeders! What do you think? Are the bird…

Tips for New Floridians? 1 2 3

Howdyall: I have a younger brother, aged 46, who's a copier repair tech by trade, who lost his job in Ohio, and, having seen a lot of Craigslist offerings in JAX plans to go there in about a week, and cohabit with a friend to share expenses. He's collecting unemployment, and will for a number of more months yet. I recall a few things about Florida, but they're old. One of them is that they're super-insistent that you register your car there, and, they register cars by weight, which can get expensive for a Buick Road Master Wagon. I know that Jax has some tough 'hoods in it, but that it's also full of the kind of industrial activity that could make for good pros…

Will Paul drink too much sake and drop his camera into the bird bath? Will Terry bring his world famous BBQ ribs! Will we have a special recorded appearance by Wal? Will Dave be wearing his red converse or blue? Will Ron get eaten by a mountain lion while traversing Dictionary Hill on his way home? Will we exceed the weight limit that my house's stilts can handle and we'll all go sliding down the hill? The only way to find out the answers to these important questions is to come to the BBQ at Matt & Jen's. You're all invited. We always enjoy seeing old friends and meeting new ones. RSVP by sending me a PM or give me a call, so I know how many burgers…

Who has the biggest head? 1 2 3

Try and guess who has the biggest head. At the end the 10 subjects will report the results. Let's see how we measure up. Measure your heads circumference at forehead level. This is clearly a palm related topic because a bigger head holds more palms. Wow, I am bored. Mod Edit: Sorry Matty --- "clearly a palm related topic because a bigger head holds more palms" won't get past this moderator. Hence, it's moved to "Ohana Nui." Good thing you didn't include me in the poll.

i made a call over a week ago that the market was not happy about Uncle BEN pulling the plug. guys like DEAN jumped in waving his arms after a little pop and told you i was wrong. well the "sell - off " goes on - just as i predicted and told you it would. we will sell off to the point where the market is priced with the understanding that the fed may start backing off the printing press at any time. right now there are a million "top callers" so this WONT be the top. heck there may not even BE a top -just a bad pullback while investors kick and scream. there is also end of month selling going on.................................

Coqui Frog - Friend or Foe? 1 2
by Mauna Kea Cloudforest- 1 follower

Some people love them for both their lullaby and the fact that they eat a ton of bugs, others absolutely detest them. Some don't have them yet and are terrified at the thought of them arriving in their gardens. Others go out of their way to sneak them into their garden. Where do you stand? Take the poll. If you've never heard them, here is a nice little recording. In some Hawaii jungle settings, their collective song can reach 65db. Some interesting facts about the coqui: it's rapidly disappearing in its native habitat, The big Island of Hawaii is actually one of the few places where it's thriving. This frog has actually become the center-piece of a new move…

The hacked e-mails of the Sony Corp don't look good. Will there be a devestment dropping the stock price? Will the contracted talent revolt? Is it a fore gone conclusion that the CEO is done? How long and how hard will the fallout be from what has been revealed? Will the entity unravel and assets sold ?

Construction to replace the main structural members on the west side of the house has begun. Here's some before shots for reference. The 4" x 6" posts were rotten and termite damaged at the bottom, and the 4" x 12" header beam was termite damaged, rotten, and compressing down. Also, the 5' x 40' deck was rotten and unsafe.

Your Favorite Songs 1 2
by osideterry- 71 replies
- 5.3k views
My brother and I are pulling together the tunes for our 30th(!) high school reunion in July. I'll likely run the songs from my laptop or iPod. Besides the obvious going with songs that topped the charts, I was curious what you all liked from that era. 1975-78 contained a treasure trove of chart-topping crap. "Billy Don't Be a Hero", "The Night Chicago Died" and "Afternoon Delight" all hit #1. I want to mix in some FM rock (Pink Floyd, Led Zep) to balance out songs like "You Light Up My Life". Looking forward to your input. Feel free to make a list if you have time.

Like a lot of americans I’m trying to learn how to have a better diet and learn more about the food I eat and what food I should stay away from. A health nut friend sent me this website that has some very interesting information on it. Here’s one of many articles….. PS: I actually stop buying most of these food products along time ago on my own. Thought others would enjoy reading. I have met a cast of characters on this forum (I mean that in a good way), and many people here have some interesting things they do in their spare time. Bill races Tuscans, Ken likes to fish, and Jeff Searle plays paintball, and Bo has his airplane hobby. What do I do? Some people on here that know me know I am somewhat of a firearms collector/enthusiast. The great state of Florida allows for people in good standing with the law to not only purchase firearms, but carry them concealed with the proper training and paperwork. Many people hear about gun brands, here are pictures to go with names. Smith and Wesson Model 66, .357 magnum. This was a commonly used gun by …
