A couple of interesting maps
by sandgroper- 0 replies

I found these maps online, they show where Australia and New Zealand would lie if they were situated in their current latitude except in the northern hemisphere. I was surprised at how much closer to the equator some of our cities and major towns were in comparison.

Dealing with wildfires -- what to do? Or not?
by DoomsDave- 0 replies
Howdyall: Well, we're in wildfire heaven again. The problem is that when the wind kicks up, and the brush has accumulated from years (or decades) of suppression efforts, you end up with a fire so hot the firemen can't put it out. Or, they get toasted themselves, like the 19 who died in AZ last year. http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/arizona-firefighters-young-dedicated-beloved-v19238581 Cutting down all that brush seems impractical, but the choice is either that, or controlled burns, or eventual uncontrolled wildfires. I remember those nasty fires outside Melbourne in Australia. How's everyone doing there? Any thoughts? Stone castles are too expens…

American Chopper

This might be old news to the Americans but I was watching the latest season of American Chopper being aired here (one of my favorite shows) and it was mentioned "...now that Vinnie's gone..." So I searched the net a bit and found some news that he really did leave the show. What happened??? Chemistry of that show is liable to change.

Weather Radios - recommendations
by PalmatierMeg- 0 replies

Saturday night Cape Coral was hit by an F2 tornado. It didn't hit my neighborhood but trashed a 14 sq mile swath of destruction in SW Cape reminiscent of 2004's Cat 4 Hurricane Charley. No one was seriously injured but roofs were ripped off houses, vehicles overturned, trees uprooted. That caused us to do some serious thinking. We need an emergency weather radio to warn us of storms and esp. tornadoes. Radios come in all price ranges and styles. Has anyone here used them? Can you provide recommendations for possible candidates? Thanks. The photo below came from the Ft. Myers News-Press
