Ever get an email like this?
by Al in Kona- 8 replies

Just received the below email. I was wondering do some people fall for this and give them the information they want? I'm sure a few have or they wouldn't be sending these type of emails out like this. Hey, maybe I'm passing up a big opportunity to get a negotiable percentage of the funds and take that around the world trip visiting every botanical garden and wonder of the world that interests me! LOL Here it is: FROM: PRINCE MOHAMMED I believe you are doing fine today. In my effort to safe keep our family fund, I wish to inform you that all necessary arrangements have been made and the funds have left to Europe last week by Express Cargo Flight (Diplomatic …

Microwave hardy ants
by iwan- 5 replies

How long does it take to microwave an Argentine ant? Don't know. After nuking my dinner for 1.5 minutes I noticed there was a live ant in the microwave. Hmm, try another 30 seconds, still alive. Add another 2 minutes... So how long do you have to nuke an ant to kill it? Don't know, I might break the microwave trying.

I've been meaning to post pictures from my trip to CR a couple years ago for the sake of everyone going on the biennial. I'm sure you've seen a bunch of palm related pics so far so maybe this will give you a glimpse of some other facets of the country/forests. House I stayed in in San Jose. No screens/glass here. Suicide-showers. Obviously kids used this b-ball court to play football.

Howdyall: Took the camera to the office from which we will be moving soon, in that grand tradition of folding tents and moving on to greener pastures, just across the street. This joint has a helluva view, sorry, but you'll agree. This is Disney Hall.

Calling all "Ranch Hands"!!

I designed a silly, Palm-related T-shirt for myself but it is kind of expensive to make just a few shirts. It occurred to me that maybe a few of you out there would like a palm-related T-shirt as well! If I could "round up" at least 12 orders then I could get them for $18.00 and then it would cost around $4.50 to mail it to you! ($22.50 total) I will try to post a more detailed pic!

Conservationist or not?
by _Keith- 0 replies

Do you consider yourself a conservationist? Note, I did not say conservative. This has nothing to do with politics, but with philosophy, things like composting, recycling, energy efficiency. But just to be safe, this is a poll only with no comments.

Computer Assistance

Howdyall: I keep getting a message on my computer telling me that the virtual memory is too small. I note that I often cannot view pictures posted on this Board. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the pictures I downloaded from my Excellent Florida Adventure. Windows says to just go to system, and change the size of the "paging file." So, what will happen if I make it too big? Are there any side effects I don't know about? Sage counsel appreciated. dave, humbly

Tiger is teeing it up on the last leg of the Florida PGA Tour leg at Doral in Miami.A victory this week will be his eighth Tournament victory in a row, leaving only Jack Nicklaus and Sam Snead as further competition. It should be noted Tiger is 32 years old and this victory will cause him to pass Ben Hogan. The Artic front from California is poised to strike Friday but conditions look as follows: Thursday-85/67F Friday-79/65F-Strike of the Polar Express Saturday-85/65F Sunday-81/67F

I first saw this video on a Swedish travel forum last summer, and posted the link in the Palapa, which of course is no more. The thread on that forum was just bumped, and I just watched the video again. A little bit slow at times, but just be patient. There's plenty of action, and I just love the scene where the posse returns for revenge!

China and Pollution
by bubba- 14 replies

My oldest son just got back from a trip to China he won in Buisness School Competition. He,along with 150 students, spent their Spring Break in China, touring Industrial Facilities in Bejing and Shanghai. It was an incredibly interesting trip intellectually but very disturbing.Specifically,he was warned about the Air Pollution but had no idea what to truly expect.Upon arrival in Bejing,he felt faint getting off the plane and described the smell as a chemical fire.Bejing is approximately 18 million and hosts the Olympics this Summer. They have alot of work to do.I really don't see how it can be done. If Human Rights are also an issue, what my son witnessed in Tianaman(sp)Squ…

Tiger Woods

I know there are not many Golfers on this Board but what this young man has done is incredible. At the Arnold Palmer Invitational in Orlando,he knocked in a 20+foot putt on the last hole to win by one shot and extend his Tournament winning streak to 7 in a row. This was almost the identical putt he had to beat Phil Michaelson at the 2004 Event. He has just passed Arnold Palmer in Career victories and is now tied with Ben Hogan. He tees it up in Miami at Doral for his next Tournament this week and I doubt even the arrival of the Polar Express and long underware in Miami can stop him.A true Phenom!

All this talk about Sunday's with the Fed and JP Morgan's take over of Bear Stearns have led to some winners and losers. In the Loser category, you have River-Boat Gambler,Joe Lewis.A Lyford Cay resident in the Bahamas(just like Sean/ 007)and purchaser of Isleworth in Orlando,he gambled that Bear Stearns stock would go higher when he purchased at $ 30.00 per share. With JP's takeover,he just lost $ 800,000,000.00. Not bad for a couple of days hard work.

Wall building
by iwan- 7 replies

Pictures of Steve's stucco walls reminded me of a project that I have been meaning to do, so which is cheaper, concrete block or wood framed stucco for garden walls from a materials standpoint? I know block will end up costing more since I will probably have to hire out the labor, but should last forever if done properly. I could handle the wood framed wall myself, but 200' of block wall would probably be torture on my back. What is the typical lifespan of a wood framed wall? OK you builders/landscape contractors out there, what do you say? Typical costs per linear foot for a 3-4' tall wall?
