Tribes in Brazil

I find this story quite interesting, and maybe Don can comment further… It seems as if there are more “uncivilized” groups in this world than I ever imagined. How do folks refuse to evolve in culture, medicine, and lifestyle? I’m not saying it’s a bad thing, but it seems the inner human has instinct to evolve into a more practical lifestyle? What do others think of the following two stories? http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080530/ap_on_.../brazil_indians http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7427417.stm

Termites
by Wai`anae Steve- 14 replies

Crawled under the house yesterday to check on a leaky pipe, but before I could get way back to it I noticed a 4 x 4 post has begun to sag and the horixontal beam it is holding up has termite damage. For the past few years I noticed the door in one room would not close and I figured it was just ground settling. Now it turns out it is the house that is settling. Gotta call some repair guys Monday morning and get it fixed before my computer room winds up out side by sinking down about 4 feet. I've know there was some damage in a few areas but nothing to worry about. I try to get the house tented every 5 years, but once I let it go for about 9 years and I think t…

What is the best water sprinklers

For various reasons an irrigation system is out of the question right now, so like the other topics such as compression sprayers, I am tired of buying one-season-at-best junk. What are some quality water sprinklers for use on the end of a water hose?

So what's some music you've heard lately you like, that's at least new to you ? For me, it's Bryan Ferry's album "Dylanesque". Excellent covers of the man, especially "Simple twist of fate" and "All along the watchtower". Another is Bob Schneider, some great songs by this guy. What's got your attention music lovers ?

Just how bloody do you like it?

Quite a few folks have taken the Bloody Mary to an art form. Right now I am drinking Major Peter's Hot and Spicy with a dash of Worchesterchire, a few dashes of Tabasco sauce, and a generous squeeze of lime. This one is not for the faint of heart. So, just how bloody do you like it? Got a favorite recipe, post it here, please.

Dear Friends Sorry for the delay in posting these Wedding Album stills, since at that time the Off Topic Sub Forum did not exist, during that period,so their was no hurry for me to procure the photo_Cd from my wife Anitha's Family.. And another bottle neck i had was the uploading speeds, though i have a broadband ADSL connection of 512Kpbs,that speed is only for downloads, while my uploading speeds was no more than just 120Kpbs,when asked i was told that for domestic connection this is how it is.. And first off all i must sinserely thank Mr.Bo Goran & the present committe & Our modulator for trying to bring in some kind of off topic sub forum.. And iam doi…

Brisbane Old Botanical Gardens
by Walter John- 11 replies
- 2.2k views
The Brisbane City Botanic Gardens celebrated its 150th anniversary in 2005. The area was first selected as the Government Garden in 1828 when Charles Fraser, the Curator of Sydney's Botanic Gardens, Allan Cunningham, the King's botanist, and the penal colony's Superintendent, Captain Logan, visited the intended site. They marked out the boundaries and convicts were set to clear the area. At first, it was used to grow vegetables to feed the expanding colony. With the discontinuation of convict transport, the area was still used unofficially to grow vegetables and the land remained in Crown hands. In 1855, the gardens were officially established with Walter Hill , the…

Simple Amp and Mike

Howdyall: I'd like to get an amplifier with speaksers and a microphone, preferably wireless. No instruments, just voice, for the time being. Any thoughts on which one to get, what to look for? I'd like it as inexpensive as possible. A visit to Guitar Center yielded a lot of flim-flam attempts to get me to spend hundreds of dollars, which is way too much. I figure a hundred, or ahundred fifty should do it. I know we've got band members galore in here . . . .

Flies @ Manambe Lavaka

So the heat is on here in San Diego and with the return of summer comes the hords of flies. I've never experienced this before but my new place has these little flies that overtake you if you're out working for more than 10 minutes without any bug spray on. Even with the bug spray the occasional fly will make it into your ears and eyes and mouth. I tried ear plugs but they still try and squeeze past the ear plugs to get into my ears! They are the same little flies you see pestering horses eyes. Even with the bug spray all over me I'll have thousands of flies swarming on me once I start to sweat. There's no manure or anything like that that attracts them. They just s…

I am very lucky to have a former Law partner, who is now our resident Author during Winter. His first book was published in 2004 and detailed his wartime experience to a revisit to Vietnam in 2000.(hence the title) Dave, you met John and you may recall he made best efforts to get you to Kampong.John is the only guy I know, who went through both Navy Seal and Ranger Training schools.During the Vietnam War he was on special assignment to the CIA directing covert paramilitary Vietnamese units in Mekong Delta for 18 months.(1967-68) Unlike a contemporary of his,who was a year older at Yale,John was in some real hairy and heavy action.During the TET Offensive,a Viet Cong for…
