Boots ARE my dress shoes. Or at least I should say I have dress boots. The Ostrich are super comfortable. The most comfortable I ever owned were Kangeroo skin. Incredible comfort, but expensive and they didn't hold up well. Now I have to admit I am as hard on boots as I am on plants, and everything else for that matter. Same thing for Lizard skin boots. They just don't hold up well for me. I am surprised that Florida has not developed a great niche market for Iguana boots, or maybe they have. If so, I might bring home a pair from my upcoming conference and vacation combination. I looked at some Elephant skin boots, but they were like iron. We have a niche …

Talking photography - 35mm that is
by _Keith- 33 replies
- 1.8k views
I had a nice 35mm camera and was a late adopter to DSLR photography. Digital quality is really good, getting better every day, and wonderfully versatile. And far more convenient and cheap too. So, I don't pick up my 35mm camera anymore, at least not for a few years, but I do miss it. And I miss a certain quality to my 35mm shots that I just don't see in digital photos, even high quality digital photos. Is it just me showing my age, or is there a little something extra about a 35mm image that digital photography may not capture.

Hummer vs. Hybrid
by palmmermaid- 12 replies

Some time ago someone posted a link to a website that defined the environmental impact over the entire life span of a Hummer and a hybrid. It showed that the Hummer actually had less of an impact. Does anyone remember the topic or can provide me the link? Thanks

Camera Fun

I am sitting in a condo in Ft. Walton Beach, FL right now. I was sitting on the balcony with a glass of wine when some folks starting shooting fireworks on the beach. I ran in to grab the camera. This was shot hand held leaning the camera on the balcony and using image stabilization. Kinda cool, I think.

Watering wands
by iwan- 17 replies
- 1.6k views
Anyone have recommendations for a quality watering wand? I am tired of the cheap (only) ones available at the box stores (although I do like the removable head). These things used to last a couple years and recently they have only lasted one year before they leak or the hose coupling separates from the rod. I bought two less than a month ago (one leaks and the other is completely broken). Tired of these cheap Chinese imports and looking for something that will last.

Deja vu 1936 all over again
by DoomsDave- 5 replies

Howdyall: By now you've seen the pictures from Iowa. Scary. Water everywhere. EVERYWHERE, nowhere to run. In 1993, I was returning to LA after a summer in Ohio (first year in law school) and there was a flood then, but NOTHING like this. My dad lived in Pennsylvania in 1936 when he was a boy (he was confined to bed for pnuemonia) and he saw the river come up to the field up behind his house, miles from the Ohio River, more than 40 feet above flood level, or about 60 feet above the river's normal level. A picture of Cincinnati in its flood of 1937 showed the huge suspension bridge as the only thing above water . . . That bridge's roadway is three stori…

Anyone on Palm Talk like Cigars
by Alan_Tampa- 27 replies
- 2.2k views
I have smoked a pipe for a while and enjoy that but since the local tobacconist has only a handful of flavors and pipe stuff, I started trying a few cigars. I like the spiced ones, like the Acid series from Drew Estate and on the 'regular' side I really dig the Carlos Torano Silver Edition Exodus 1959. Anyone else partake in cigars or the like? Dope excluded. Alan
