Got some rabid excitement on this topic in the other Thread.I believe it is unfair to carry on this discussion under the previous nefarious label. Not that I take anything back but I genuinely hope good things for USC and their program except when they play Florida. They are Good ! That stated,I would like to encourage us Palm/College Football Nuts to have ongoing discussions on this Thread.I would encourage politeness but no problem discussing the virtues of your Alma Mater's prowess.I would also urge that we respond to each well thought out Post even if it involves team's we do not know alot about.I truly do not know much about the teams in the Pac-10 but am interested…

We get a fair amount of wildlife in the garden here, including Wallabies And Kangaroos, plus many other native animals, birds and reptiles. This little Wallaby was happily munching on the Singapore Daisy this afternoon. Even though wet from the rain, his fur is much darker than that of the usual wallabies we get around here. Daryl

Each evening after work (when it's not raining) I try to get some exercise, so I go for a walk. I walk along the intercoastal waterway (in south Florida) for first half of the walk and along the ocean for the last half. The views are tough to take. Anyway, all of a sudden I started noticing these incredible sunsets so I started taking pictures with my cell phone. Here are a few...

This development is slightly disturbing. It may mean nothing, or it may mean the end of gardening in Leilani Estates. The future is unknowable. Past performance does not necessarily predict future performance when it comes to volcanoes. USGS is tracking movement daily with flyovers and aerial photographs. http://hvo.wr.usgs.gov/ n I'm having lots of inner debates. Do nothing. Pack up a trailer and move all house contents to a storage facility in Hilo. Do nothing. Buy a boat for ocean access in case the highway is cut off. Do nothing. Lift the entire house off the pier foundations and move it to a safe location. Do nothing. What will I feel if the house…

Here's some pics of a new cactus garden area that I'm working on. I plan on extending the light colored gravel on the pathways, and I want to use a combination of native rock, brown gravel, and D.G. as a ground cover in the planting areas. My question is about weed fabric: Should I put down weed fabric first or just put the gravel right down on the dirt? I've used weed fabric in other areas and I still seem to get weeds/grass germinating in the gravel a little bit. But I've also put the gravel down with no weed fabric and I don't really think I get that many more weeds. The weeds come from the top I think. I don't know. I'm just splitting hairs and making it more…

Aviation - what keeps me busy.... 1 2

With all the discussion going on in the other thread about PSSC (SoCal) and the Palm Journal, I thought it was quite a coincidence that just yesterday I reached a substantial milestone in publishing myself. In 1966 - 42 years ago - I decided to start a little aviation publication, more as a hobby than anything else. I only had 35 subscribers. I called it "Aviation-Letter", and began publishing it on a monthly basis. The number of subscribers kept growing, and as of issue #10 I had about 115 subscribers and decided to go for broke and have it printed at a real printshop, with photos (OK, B&W, but still). At the time I needed 500 subscribers to reach break-even - a numb…

On popular demand (thank you Kim!! ), I'm beginning a new Big Island thread since we lost the old one in connection with the Palapa execution... A sudden decision this morning had me heading over to the Kona side with my wife, a 2.5 hour drive from Leilani Estates. From Hilo to Kailua-Kona there are 3 choices: Highway 11 around the southern part of the island (the longest way) Highway 19 around the northern part of the island and thru Waimea (well, close to the northern part anyway) Highway 200 - but always referred to as the Saddle Road - the shortest way, but also the most dangerous. Since I like a challenge, taking the Saddle Road was a "no brainer"...! The Sa…

Are There Alligators In The VA Beach Area? 1 2

I was recently reading about alligators and read that some have "slipped" over the boarder into Virginia. Obviously right along the boarder and coast. Does anyone think this is true or that there are any there maybe going in and out of Virginia?

Aloha, Karolyn P. Lundkvist here. I'm working on a project for the Rotary club I'm in (Rotary Club of Pahoa Sunset). I'm calling this project "What does Peace mean to you?" If any of you can help us please do so. All you need to do is write one sentence or one short paragraph. I'm thanking you in advance. Karolyn

Dear Friends Sorry for the delay in posting these Wedding Album stills, since at that time the Off Topic Sub Forum did not exist, during that period,so their was no hurry for me to procure the photo_Cd from my wife Anitha's Family.. And another bottle neck i had was the uploading speeds, though i have a broadband ADSL connection of 512Kpbs,that speed is only for downloads, while my uploading speeds was no more than just 120Kpbs,when asked i was told that for domestic connection this is how it is.. And first off all i must sinserely thank Mr.Bo Goran & the present committe & Our modulator for trying to bring in some kind of off topic sub forum.. And iam doi…

New places to retire, other than Hawaii 1 2 3 4

I was thinking that when I retire I would like to possibly move to a better palm climate and less expensive place than California. My wife is bored in Hawaii unless it's Honolulu, so I am researching other options. I'm in love with Australia but it is too far away from my family, so I am considering Mexico. I have two friends who moved to a place called San Miguel de Allende. Incredible climate, beautiful city and lots of culture and fun, 40% American and European, completely safe because it is protected by the Mexican Government. Always rated among the best Cities in Mexico and the world to live. Located in central Mexico, easy flight back to San Diego. It looks fanta…

What's Your Favorite Discontinued Soft Drink? 1 2

It happened gradually. As a kid I lived on NuGrape, Mission Orange, and Nehi. When I was a 18, I could still find bottles of Suncrest Soda at any gas station. Into my mid 20s, cans of Big Red, as well as a few Fanta flavors could still be found. They were usually at gas stations out in the middle of nowhere. They are all gone. It's Coke and Pepsi-owned labels as far as you can see. Not exactly. Lately I notice at convenience stores about half the cooler space devoted to energy drinks. Older guys like me remember the regional stuff. Younger people had to have seen their childhood favorites disappear. What do you really miss?

To bad I can't sit on the beach and watch the sun rise every morning...work tends to dictate otherwise. However they are still nice to see while driving to work. Morning has broken!! (what song is this line from?)

There are now an estimated 150,000 Pythons in the Florida Everglades http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090528/od_nm/...rglades_pythons Yikes, I hope they at least eat the Iguanas. Burmese pythons get to 15 ft long & fast! They eat mammals as large as a deer, live 25 years & poop like a horse. Oh great.

Well I thought it time to make my move in the old ohanna Nouie nouii, oh baby, I gotta go. Yi-yi-yi-yi-yi Nouie nouii, oh baby, I gotta go. So what's some music you've heard lately you like, that's at least new to you ? For me, it's Bryan Ferry's album "Dylanesque". Excellent covers of the man, especially "Simple twist of fate" and "All along the watchtower". Another is Bob Schneider, some great songs by this guy. What's got your attention music lovers ?

Howdyall: While in Florida, I was forced to get a new camera, since memory cards for my old one were no longer to be found. Went to Best Buy, with the following criteria: (1) had to have a zoom lense, the zoomier the better; (2) had to fit into a shirt pocket when not in use; and (3) had to take a standard, as opposed to proprietary battery. I found it! A Canon SX100 IS. All of the above. For just under 300 clams, literally $299.99 including tax. Plus another 14 for a 2 Gig memory card. Oh! Scream, etc. If you're into drive-by pornography, like me, this camera works great. Ahem. Here's a shot a long ways off.
