What a mess - do not click any of the scam links
by UK_Palms- 11 replies
Just a heads up that similar links that were spammed onto another online forum resulted in users having personal information and credit credit details stolen. Do not open the posts. Certainly do not risk clicking any links in there by mistake. The site must have been hit by bots or ransomware/Trojan or something. I have noticed it more and more in recent weeks. They are hoping someone accidentally clicks a link and they get your details from your desktop. Be careful. Hopefully mods can take them down but there is like 20+ pages of it spammed. This is certainly the worst case of it I have ever seen. Very annoying as we can’t see the most recent legitimate posts o…

Irrigation pipe?

I went to move my newly planted B alfredii and discovered this in the way: I’m guessing it’s an irrigation pipe, but it’s pretty far down and doesn’t obviously connect to the sprinkler system. Any ideas on how I can test to see if it actually does anything? I don’t want my BA crushing this mystery pipe, but it’s in a prime spot and it’s not clear it actually serves a purpose.

Tobacco Mosaic virus
by Darold Petty- 0 replies

My garden is very small, and every square foot of area is important. I have had two, successive Iochroma plants infected by this virus. Therefore, it is present in the soil. I am resigned to using a decorative ceramic pot and plant above ground in this spot for an extended period. Innertube research says the virus can remain viable in soil for up to one year. If I let this spot remain fallow for two years would that be sufficient to insure freedom from future infection ? Thanks for your thoughts and experiences with this problem.

Golf has changed in the way of all things over the years. Bing Crosby’s Clambake is sponsored by AT&T and in no way resembles the phenomenal laid-back tournament that he created. However, the magnificent Monterey peninsula is still displayed completely in the golf tournament aired this week for all to see. It is one enchanted place, so beautiful that it is numbing. It is one of those special places on our planet where no one cannot be completely awed. I remember the first time that I played Pebble Beach, I felt that I would see a leprechaun at the edge of the enchanted forest. It is one of my most favorite places on earth. The 17 mile drive is exceptional b…

Vehicle hail damage
by JohnAndSancho- 3 replies

Never had to deal with this before, but all of this sounds too good to be true. For those who don't know, I'm a hotel manager in East Texas and here in Fabulous Hunts Vegas, we had a significant hail storm not too long ago. I had a guest checking into the hotel tonight with an obvious hail repair shirt on, and I casually mentioned that my daily driver car was absolutely trashed. He took a look at my car and offered me a free rental car, said that he could get my insurance deductible waived, and offered to pay me to use my vehicle as before/after photos plus pay me for referrals. I mean, I'll be honest, my car got absolutely hammered, every single …

..To continuing to explore new horizons and new plants ..and critters ....And continuing to enjoy the ones mastered.. ..To always having wall-less views and perspective.. Sunsets and all.. Chase the late nights. Don't fear the awe of nature.. Be, think, and live Authentically.. And never ever getting trapped, lulled, or lured into a box or a tunnel.... Open those eyes, and views.. Don't be this guy.. Accept change.. Never stop exploring new roads.. ....Always remember to stop to check out who is hanging out in the flowers or among the leaves along the way... It…

World Cup 2022 Qatar
by UK_Palms- 15 replies

2 weeks to go now until the biggest sports competition in the world begins. It's going to be weird having it during the winter when every other World Cup has been played in June-July at the end of the domestic seasons. Rather this one is going to be played halfway through the regular season, since it would have been 45C / 115F in Qatar during June-July, which would be ridiculous. I'm surprised they even managed to get a World Cup staged in the gulf region though, but I guess when all that oil money speaks, people listen. I'm not sure how many Yanks will be following, but you guys are lumped in group B with England and we play each other 25h November. Re…

Great Gate Lock/Latch for Fences
by WestCoastGal- 6 replies
A few years ago when we installed a new redwood fence we were looking for a good gate lock. Something that wouldn't rust, would latch so we could go in and out if we wanted, and could be locked from one side or the other depending on if we were staying inside our backyard or were leaving our yard and on the outside of our fence. I found this Australian company called D&D Technologies and purchased their Lokklatch Deluxe system. We were able to buy it locally from a San Jose, CA fence company that carried their products. Comes in black or white. It's been great, and I was thinking others here might be interested in it. Our plant person has recommend it to several other…

Does anyone know how to keep raccoons away!!!! 1 2
by Stevetoad- 1 follower

I've been at war with raccoons. They get into my little pond eat the fish and destroy all the plants in there. As of this week they discovered a taste for bromeliads and went ahead and destroyed a good chunk of mine. I've been live trapping them for over a year and they just keep coming. I've caught about 25 or more. I've been releasing them about 3 miles away and am thinking they are coming back. So now I'm going to take me with me to work and let them go 33 miles away. I DO NOT want to kill them. I just want them out of my yard.

Mauna Loa, the world's largest volcano, began erupting last night at 11:30pm HST after (in conjunction with?) a 4.2 earthquake. Mauna Loa last erupted in 1984. Initially the eruption was confined to the summit crater, but has since spread to fissures beyond the crater, first to the south, then to the north. Last time I checked, the majority of the flow was to the north. The flow remains far from roads (20 miles) and structures, not threatening any downslope communities at this time. Landscape Art.. A different view through the lens..
by Silas_Sancona- 10 replies

As mentioned awhile back, been working on a project that i thought i'd share ..and seek yay / nay feedback on. When it comes to Photography, there are many different subjects one can zero in on in regards to subject matter.. The great thing about and angle that involves landscape Photography is it is hard to manipulate things like what light, or what other conditions you may be shooting in. While the " natural state " of a photograph ..cleaned up, if necessary of course, is great, there is more to see ..beyond what you might see in a picture, if you use your imagination, and look beyond what is captured in the lens.. One can take their pictures in a more " ar…

Flashback.. Pictures from the past.
by Silas_Sancona- 0 replies

Before Photography went digital, photographers relied on film to capture ..pretty much everything.. Part of the enjoyment in using film was waiting for pictures to be developed, or, if you were lucky enough to take Photography in High School, learning how to develop pictures yourself.. Something every legit photographer should have experience doing, even if you'll likely never need to.. The downside of using film of course is having a ton of "reject" pictures hanging around alongside the great shots ...Can't just hit delete on a film camera. I recently had several boxes of stuff i'd had in storage for about 15 or so years sent here, including a fair chunk of…

Citizenship/residency

A U.S. citizen. Just got my Mexican permanent residency 6 months ago!! One of the benefits: I can drive a Mexican license plated vehicle to the US (across the border) for work/pleasure. (Cheaper plates/insurance than a US license plate vehicle). Sadly so I cannot claim my German citizenship because they require I forego my U.S. citizenship and any future passports. Seeing how the state of affairs are in Deutschland and the EU, it's not worth it. It's not the same Europe our grandparents talked about Carpe Diem
