A friend sent me this link below with some pictures of my town Recife and I decided to share. There are several series of amateur photos listed on the left side, some of them also were taken in Olinda (the old neighboring colonial town and former capital of the province), Boa Viagem (the urban beach in Recife), Tamandaré beach (very near Sirinhaém), Fernando de Noronha (the volcanic archipelago) and some images of the Carnival. Please turn the sound on and listen to some old traditional local music too... Have fun... http://www.zoyabedandbreakfast.com/turismo.html

temple 1: Lankatilake
by doranakandawatta- 1 reply
If you visit Kandy and especially Peradeniya botanical garden, you should enjoy a short tour in the countryside close by and visit three temples: Here is Lankatilake, very old brick masonry temple which has a buddhist shrine on one side, a Hindu shrine on the opposite side. As usual in temple premises, nice bo-tree (Ficus religiosa) and a huge cannon ball tree. some temple trees too (Plumeria). From the temple on the hill; nice view. Don't forget; before or after these temples, Peradeniya and Samarakoon's garden; i ma used to visit the temples in the morning and reach Peradeniya for lunch and a palmy afternoon. I hope once I meet a PalmTalk …

NZ QUAKE INFO. PLEASE
by Phoenix Bob- 0 replies
Am beginning a long-planned tour of the S. Pacific with many stops for the specific purpose of palm investigation. Have also planned four days on the S. Island of NZ. My travel agent has just completely re-routed us away from Chruschurch. I don't know if this is exactly the right place to make this request, but I'm hoping fellow "palmies" on New Zeland's S. Island might be able to offer some personal, accurate info. about the west/southwest areas (Franz Joseph, Mt Cook, Mlford Sound, Queenstown, etc.) regarding general conditions since the "shaker" . I know that the majority of damage was concentrated in and around Christchurch (horrible tragedy!), but I'm wondering…

For those that live in Costa Rica or have been there, if you were to choose 2 of the following 3 places to go, which would you select: Tortuguero National Park Corcovada National Park Las Cruces - Wilson Botanical We're planning on coming to Costa Rica for the IPS 2008 Biennial in May. I am not sure where they are taking us on the biennial tours, but the above are options for "pre" and "post" tours. How much rain can we expect the 1st two weeks of May ?

Eastern North Carolina Windmill Palms
by Derekjp- 1 reply

Here are some photos of a recent landscaping project at an apartment site that I manage in Eastern North Carolina. We planted around 40-50 small windmill palms and sabel minors around this site. I've tried to do my part to make North Carolina more topical looking, but it's just to cold here! We've added larger Pindo palms at other sites also. I used to have a lot of pictures, but I seemed to have misplaced them so I took these when I traveled 4 hours there this week. I know these palms are boring, but it's the best I was allowed to do in northeastern NC. Since I've been renting I've not been able to grow any palms, but at least I have been able to plant them indirec…

Hi all, especially to any Italian viewers. My wife and I are travelling to London from Fiji in August as my 50th birthday celebration and a few weeks of some things that I have always wanted to do but never have got around to. Main event is the Rollingstones concert in London on 21st. Always wanted to see them but things have got in the way at other times like work etc. Also want to spend about 2 weeks in Italy. Fine food, vino etc. Not concerned to see Vatican and other tourists haunts but some good gardens, great scenery, fun people and real experiences. What can you recommend ?

Mexico in March Anyone?
by jeffchemnick- 0 replies

I have recently been engaged to lead a botanical ecotour in Oaxaca this March 7-14, 2010. A group of 6 from France (with Rene Coativy and his friends) is coming to see palms and cycads (as well as agaves, beaucarneas, orchids, tree ferns, cactus, etc. etc.) in southern Mexico but would also like to spend some of the time to see culture, architecture, ruins, churches, artisans, villages, weavings, etc. etc. So...this will be a shorter than usual tour and one that is not as botanically intensive as normal(call it "ecotour-lite"). Perhaps a shorter, less floristically intense trip to Mexico is just what you have been waiting for. There are several spots still open if you…

Years ago, Jana and Gary Meiser were building their garden and posting photos. They purchased a lot of stuff small. These palms should now be huge. Is there still a site with pictures out there? http://members.tripod.com/~jbmeiser/
