Another quick trip to Panama
by Jeff in St Pete- 16 replies

A couple weeks ago I headed down to Panama for my obligatory 72 hours so that I can live in Costa Rica for another 90 days. On the way down we stopped at a restaurant south of Dominical, Costa Rica. This place had beautiful views and I just had to take a few pictures.

Another Scottsdale Palm ID
by Burl- 6 replies

Here are pic's of the trees and seeds I collected. I am thinking either phoenix dactylifera or phoenix canariensis. The seeds do not look like pictures of either of the pic's of these seeds on the web. Anyone know what I have here? Maybe the seeds I am seeing on the web have already dried out? These were collected from the dates which looked like gigantic red grapes. Thanks, Burl

Another stop on my trip to Florida a few weeks. Flamingo Gardens in Davie, FL. I was planning to visit Fairchild but time was short. Flamingo is always a nice option and closeby to Weston and Ft Lauderdale. I posted many orchid photos in the orchid thread under the TROPICAL LOOKING PLANTS - Other Than Palms“ section” of PT.

Antigua Guatemala

Antigua is this charming town less than an hour outside of Guatemala City. Complete with cobble stone streets, 500 year old cathedrals, volcanoes, art galleries, restaurants and tons of tourists. We started at a posh neighborhood a five minute walk into the center square. Walking the streets. Palms along the way. La Merced and Los Ticos, the day Costa Rica won one of the World Cup playoffs.

Anza-Borrego State Park

Here are some photos I took in eastern San Diego county earlier this week. The steep decline down highway 78 from Julian [4800'] to the Salton Sea [-229'] and into Borrego Springs is a must for every Californian. The Anza-Borrego desert is the largest state park in California and a wonderful visit in winter. The wildflower season is peaking right now. Unfortunately time didn't allow a visit to any of the palm oases but I did pass several palm plantations.

Where: about a block away from Aquatica (which looks to have tropical palms inside too, I could see lots of royals and foxtails). Okay, so again, no camera, but wow. Roads lined with royals AND cocos (LARGE ones)! What a sight. I really recommend anyone in Orlando to check it out. Super sweet eye candy.

Last sunday I went to a lake for the week end. I have known this place since my childhood and had never seen palms there. With friends we went on two fantastic jetskis for a discovery of the lakieside. And there were those palms at the end of a very small bay. Here is the end of the bay.

Arenga australasica in habitat .
by aussiearoids- 9 replies

Drove down to take these pics today as it was nice and overcast . There are many of these palms visible from the road , but not many places to pull over and stop . It is a very narrow strip practically on the beach , with a steep hill covered in rainforest and some rocky cliffs . This area was hit very hard by Cyclone Larry , still lots of damaged fronds and smashed trunks .

Don’t know if the travel log is the best place to put this, but I did have to travel to Argentina to take these pics so I’m putting it here. Santiago del Estero has a hot, semi-humid climate with scorching summers but radiation frosts also occur in winter away from the city core. Most of the Argentine native trees grown there should do well in South Texas, the tougher ones should be usable all the way up to Corpus. Tabebuia aurea, a tree that took some branch loss in the lower RGV in ‘21 but came right back Tatane (Chloroleucon tenuiflorum). Looks like a giant tropical Texas ebony, they some had smaller stem damage in ‘21 in the Harlingen area but have ou…

Ariba Aruba!!

I've been in aruba for the past week. The weather is beautiful, the ocean is beautiful, and so are the palms! I sat in this hammock the entire day. I never wanted to leave! This is Flamingo Beach, Aruba. The water is always warm, and there are never any waves. It's perfect for swimming! I got up every day at 6:30 to reserve this palapa. I think it was worth it. Nice overview of Flamingo Beach.

I took these pics of Hydriastele (Gronophyllum) Ramsayi while in Arnhemland NT in 2010. The pics were taken near Murganella at the top of Western Arnhemland. I didn't go to Arnhemland to take pics of palms, but I couldn't let the opportunity pass while in the area.

Around Bogoda Bridge

Bogoda bridge is lost in the countryside, in Badulla area. This wooden bridge is more than 400 years old. All parts of this bridge were constructed from wood, including the use of wooden nails as fixing material. The bridge link Badulla and Kandy on an ancient pilgrims route. Facing the bridge are the temple and the monks's house Around Bogoda, the landscape is especially lovely: paddy fields and Areca

For new year (14th of april) we went from Avissawella to Passara by rickshaw through Hatton and Nuwara Eliya, in the hilly landscape of tea plantations: In these altitudes there is no coconut or Areca anymore, sometimes we saw Archontophoenix. When it's not tea, it's vegetable terraces, where you find all european vegetable the british cultivated in Nuwara Eliya area: all sorts of cabbages, carrots, leeks, batavia….

After seeing Jim's lovely thread "palm props", I post the pictures of Anjalendran's work down south in Sri Lanka, Cinnamon Hill House (http://www.mirissahills.com) is a resort where one can stay, overlooking a wonderful rural landscape, in the fragrance of the cinnamon plantation. The owner has a collection of contemporary art of srilankan artists.
