A Bus Ride in the Big Orgy
by DoomsDave- 36 replies
- 2.3k views
Howdyall: Last weekend, I had a bum knee, so instead of the Tour de La Habra I had to get out of the house in a way that was less orthopedically intensive. This is the 43 bus from La Habra down Harbor Booley, to Costa Mesa. Snapped pics from the Digi-cam out the window of the bus, so these are candid shots . . . Here is a $400K house, on the main drag of Harbor Booley, almost across the street from the King of Big Screen TV (we went past before I could get a pic). Note the Ravenea rivs in the treelawn!

A Business Lunch
by amazondk- 19 replies
- 2.4k views
On Monday I was in Rorainopolis with my customer from Holland and we went with one of our suppliers to have a lunch business meeting. This supplier has about 48,000 hectares of land spread amoung 5 ranches in the area. This ranch, his main one is about 18,000 hectares in area. We went with him to see some of his logs from his project there and discuss future business. Unfortunately we could not stay longer and even spend the night. The Jauaperi river eventually flows into the Branco River which in turn flows into the Negro River. Hopefully next time I can stay longer and do a little palm hunting and fishing. The river through his property has good fishing and there…

A DAY ON THE ROAD 1 2
by amazondk- 44 replies
- 2.8k views
I have posted quite a few pictures previously of the area between Manaus and Boa Vista, Roraima. I hope some more will be enjoyed. While driving north last Friday to Boa Vista with a stop in Rorainopolis, 475 kms north of Manaus, I got inspired while thinking about Gileno's road trip, shots of Fiji by Jim, and Dave's Southern California street drive by shots. So I took a few pictures of the days trip. I left Manaus around 9 AM. I did not start taking pictures until somewhat north of Manaus, but I guess that is ok. The road, BR 174 which goes to Caracas is a real mess. It takes about 6 hours to travel the 475 kms to Rorainopolis. I never get tired of looking at the…

In the hill country , middle of Ceylon, around of Nuwara Eliya, the landscape is either designed by the tea plantations, or by the vegetable gardens where people are still growing cabbage, lettuce, carrots, beetroots, cauliflower and other european vegetables, or even strawberries… the british left in 1948, but their vegetables are still there. I visited friends there and the young guy of the family was happy to show me something rare: artichoke !

A Few Campus Palms - FSU.
by amazondk- 29 replies

I came up to Florida on May 16th for my son's graduation from High School in Fort Lauderdale. Time sure does fly. It was a big week for him, graduation, he got his drivers license, and a car. Then we took his new car up to Florida State University in Tallahassee for his orientation for fall semester. It has been a while since I have driven in the States and all the traffic was a big difference from where I am driving normally. I sure wonder where all those people are going to. But, at least there were no crater sized holes to dodge. Nor where there any anacondas or indians. While walking around FSU I took a few pictures of the campus' palms. It is a beautiful scho…

I went back to the Quepos area last week and stayed with some friends for a couple nights in Villa Nueva which is about 30 minutes from Quepos. The next morning I visited some other friends who live right up the road and have a working spice and heliconia farm. Their farm hand accompanied me down into the forest to check for seeds on an entire leaf Bactris palm and I took a bunch a photos along the way. Walking through the farm down towards the river

A few photos from Taroko Gorge, Taiwan

I have a lot of photos from my last few trips and have just gotten around to organizing some of them and some of the photos of the yard. I'll start with a few photos from Taroko Gorge, near Hualien on the east coast of Taiwan. There is a great drive down the coast from Suao to Hualien that somewhat reminds me of the PCH around Big Sur. While it was pouring rain on the way to Hualien, we got a nice sunny 25 C day on the way back. This trip was in mid-January. Jason

There is a vacant area of land going along a new avenue in Manaus to where I have an office and cargo terminal. This morning was sunny for a change and I stopped to take a few shots. The landscape has a nice mixture of local palms, Mauritia flexuosa, Euterpe precatoria, Oenocarpus bataua, and Mauritiella armata. The avenue on a Monday morning. The vacant land Street side palms growing wild.

A little trip across the river
by amazondk- 16 replies

I went on a little outing with some american friends of mine yesterday. We went across the Negro River to the meeting of the waters where the muddy water Solimoes River (known outside of Brazil normally as the Amazon) joins the Negro River to form the Rio Amazonas (in Brazilian geography). The Negro River at this point where it joins the Solimoes is 14 kms wide and 100 meters deep in parts. It is a lot of water. We then went up to a lake on the other side of the Negro and took a little walk in the varzea flooded forest area. The water is dropping quickly now and you can easily walk where 3 meters of water flowed a few months ago. This area has a lot of forest floo…
