Have you guys been to Tenerife in Canary Islands? Me and and my mates is planning to go there to spend the holidays. I've been reading some article about this island here in www.canaryislandsinfo.co.uk/tenerife/places/costa-adeje/ but i was wondering if there are some good local bars where we can enjoy a nice cold beer. Anyone of you guys been here? Any advice you can give?

Not native in Darwin but they grow and thrive here in the City. Adansonia Gregorii. Caladiums in July ! mine die off during the 'Dry' no matter how much water I pour on them. A nice Hibiscus. Sealing Wax palms love our climate....providing we water them during the 'Dry' Looking healthy in full sun and no rain since mid April. …

Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh & Kew Gardens

I had the pleasure of visiting both over consecutive weekends just recently. Edinburgh came at the end of a 5-day break, and Kew the following weekend, being only 30 minutes away. Edinburgh has the most impressive fern house, whilst the famous Lodoicea maldivica dominates the Tropical Palm House. Kew has many more palm species, and with the newly-refurbished Temperate House now open, the Palm House resembles a jungle even more than ever. Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh Kew Gardens

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

I visited the Galapagos Islands on my most recent trip to Ecuador and decided to post a few photographs. I would encourage all readers to consider a trip to Ecuador. The country is safe, friendly, and well-organized. It uses American dollars for currency, following many years of disastrous inflation. The previous president, Rafael Correa had autocratic tendencies, but he did spend a good amount of the oil money on infrastructure. The roads are now in excellent condition. His successor, Lenin Moreno has proven to more respect democratic norms. Most all of the persons you would encounter speak rudimentary 'tourist' English. Ecuador has an enormous range of topography a…

Hey all, I just booked my flight to Kona, Hawaii! I'm planning on staying in Hilo for 7 days, I've been to the big island once before, but my interests were totally different then... I'm hoping that the palm community can give me some suggestions on neat things to see and great places to see plants! I'm also hoping to eventually relocate here so, might be spotting out homes, and offices... Hoping I can make that work!

There were some fan palms too. Sorry I'm not more of a fan palm person to know if they were Washingtonias, Livistonas, something else. But I figured I had to be the first person on Palmtalk to go to several of these places (at least Turkmenistan), and others might be interested, so here goes: Central Asia Trip Report I hope one or more of you find this helpful. Let me know if you have any questions. Justin

Bali November 2017
by greysrigging- 6 replies

Had an extended holiday on the Indonesian island of Bali back in Nov-Dec. My first visit there despite my home town of Darwin Australia being only 2 and a bit hours away. November is perhaps not the ideal time to visit as it is the beginning of their 'Wet' season and those not acclimatised to the high temps and humidity find things a bit trying. My partner and I coped quite well as we hail from a region of Northern Australian that has a brutal monsoonal climate. Bali is blessed with rich volcanic soils and generous abundant rainfall so the whole island has a lush tropical look. It is a very 'palmy' place with lots of native and exotic palm species in cultivation…

South Beach Botanical Garden

Designed by Raymond Jungles, its a decent public park in South Beach a few blocks from the hotel I was staying at. I had been to the memorial next door but did not realise that the gardens were right there. I really enjoy thie influences of Brule Marx in his work, his curves, textures, and geometries all serenade togethere in really nice symphony. Though not many great plants here, I just like the overall design of the park.

I'm recent grad in Architecture, and one of my fave firms did the building (Lake FLATO) and the new landscape plan was done by my favorite landscape arch (Raymond Jungles) Anyway, enjoy this through my lens. I am staying at the Kampong in a few weeks, be waiting for some posts related to that!

Here is a collection of image galleries I've made in the past 2 years while visiting some fantastic gardens here in Southern California. I figured that it would be good to keep them in one place as a collection of bookmarks. I hope they will continue to provide inspiration and some historical record as these gardens continue to evolve. While it was certainly fun photographing these yards, I'm not quite sure at this point if I will continue to do these long term. Please enjoy, and leave comments in the individual gallery threads. _____________ Please note: The photography I have produced and posted in this and other threads here in Palmtalk are for your enjo…

"Jardin Majorelle" Marrakech - Morocco

Hi folks This summer I visited Marrakech (Morocco) for the thirth and consecutive year and finally made it to the famous Majorelle garden! This garden was created by the painter Jacques Majorelle (1886-1962) in forty years and was afterwards also bought by the well know fashion icon Yves Saint Laurent. It isn't that big but the small and shade lanes, the ridge and well maintained collection and the typical "majorelle-blue" colored buildings make the visite worth while!

Wandering the streets of Townsville
by greysrigging- 1 reply

Made a quick trip over to Townsville last week ( investment property inspection.....a poor one as the Townsville property prices are in a deep slump.....oh well.... ) Townsville is probably the driest location on the whole Queensland coast. Residents of wetter areas to the north and south refer to the city as 'Brownsville'. Annual average rainfall is 1100mm or 44". However, most of this falls in the summer months and winters are generally rainless or a couple of inches at best. For our visit the place was nice and green courtesy of a 150mm or 6" unseasonal dump of rain in late May If one is prepared to pour the water on during the dry months nearly all sub tropi…
