Strange summer in SW FL

Here in the Cape Coral/Fort Myers area we are having the most bizarre rainy season weather I've seen in my 16+ years residence. It's becoming the rainy season that wasn't. It is July 17 and we've had rain on 2 days: July 2 - 8 inches and July 11 - 0.8 inches. Other than that - nada. Normally we get almost daily thunderstorms that form inland and travel west toward the Gulf. But for weeks we've had on-shore winds in which clouds form over the Gulf in early morning, then travel over us to rain inland. Or storms form just north and cross the state but never come further south. It's like we have a dome over us that deflects all rain elsewhere. Our skies stay blue and almost c…

Hi! Do you have in your countries of African heat? Because in Europe the temperature reaches above +40 Celsius and I admit that I have sincere enough. Waiting with longing for autumn and cooling. In Spain, for example, two men have already died of stroke. I will not mention how animals (also wild) are tormented by the heat. There is not a gram of rain!

Perth's coldest summer morning on record As the sun rose over Western Australia on the first day of summer, it was feeling more like winter in Perth. The temperature at 5:25am local time was only 6.6ºC, making this the city's coldest morning of summer in 124 years of records. The previous coldest morning of the season was 7.9ºC in December 2007, while Perth's long-term average minimum temperature at this time of year is about 16ºC. In fact, this morning's temperature would even be below-average for the middle of winter in Perth. The unusually cold start to summer was caused by a high pressure ridge that moved over southwestern Austral…

Some photos of the garden on what's been a near perfect early Summer's day. High of around 24C (75F), and not too humid. Been quite a bit of rain in the past two weeks so everything is growing like mad. Wintered over the banana trunk and one leaf with some polyester frostcloth, which allowed it to take off again since September. This trunk has been going since November 2016 so must flower soon. R. Sapida Oceana small grade only been in ground since September 30th currently pushing out its second new frond. https://youtu.be/_i4WfjVqPDA

After two months of no rain we finally got 7 hours of rain today with 1.26 inch. Going to be balmy this weekend with the return of the sun. Long range looks like no rain till mid or late September. High yesterday was 85F, today 63F and rainy, lovely rain that will surely give all the plants a nice boost of new growth. Could be a drier warmer winter ahead if everything lines up for a supper El nino especially warmer Dec and Jan. for the PNW.

Summer Highs and Lows

I'm always interested in the weather. It's crazy that the temps/humidity can be so different from such a short distance here in SoCal. I look at the 10 day forecast every day, sometimes a couple times a day and see it change SO much. Since I put up my weather station i've noticed at least a 2 degree difference between mine and the one a mile away from me (in my favor) What have your highs and lows been in your area? I have been averaging around 78-84 everyday for the high and around 61-64 for the low. My humidity is around 86-90% in the morning and 50-60% durning the hottest time of the day.

Summer in California

Finally, I think it's safe to say Summer has arrived in Calif after a very cool spring. For the past week my night time lows have been in the low 60's with day time highs near 100, give or take a few degrees. I use other plants to gage growth besides palms, and my languishing tomato plants have finally exploded with growth. I can't wait for some of those juicy home grown tomatoes soon. Dick

Well I thought I'd start this thread as no one else was going too. It's summer in the south, the time for us all to rejoice down here, because we've been looking forward too it for so long. Northern posters can post too, but I think there are many cold winter threads already, but this thread is not an exclusive warm south thread either. Well here in Perth we missed everything from the big tropical low that dumped 207mm in 24hrs on Carnarvon and 112mm in 24hrs on Shark Bay. Carnarvon is under water and it shut the NW Coastal Hwy for 300km due to flash flooding risk. Just last month I was up in this area and stopped at the Murchison River crossing on the NW Coastal Hwy …

Summer rainy season

The rainy season began in earnest in late May. Here in New Port Richey I have had almost 8 1/2" of rain since May 25th, over 2" today and it is still coming down. I fertilized two weeks ago. I think I need to again. It appears like the whole state has shared in this bounty. Perhaps this year will be a great rainy season? Right now, we could use a little drying out though, and some sun.

So yesterday was the Summer Solstice. Longest day of the year and the start of summer in Southern California. I woke up in the middle of the night to the sounds of rain. What a crazy year of weather we are having. But, it sounds like things are going to be heating up shortly as it is forecasted to be warmer than normal. Anyone else get rain last night?
