An analysis of the historical occurrence of freezing temperatures in Brownsville, Texas
by Sabal_Louisiana- 9 replies

I am intrigued that such a southerly location might experience temperatures below freezing so I set set out to see just how often they occur there and if any trends are taking place.. The station used for official climatological data is at Brownsville/South Padre Island Intl. Airport located at 25.9146, -97.4231, 20 ft. above m.s.l., a few miles east of city center. It is representative of the typical meteorological conditions of the local area. Primarily, let's focus on the period 2000-2024, with data for the period easily available in tabular form from the NWS Brownsville webpage. The average annual minimum temperature for this nearly 25 year perio…

An Early Rain Season for California? 1 2
by happ- 1 follower

The dying remnants of Hurricane Hilary began moving into California yesterday w/ scattered showers over Los Angeles though most areas stayed dry or just very light rainfall [uCLA picked up 0.14]. Possible thunderstorms thru Sunday. But the real news is the approach of two wet storm systems that will move ashore next week that could produce widespread showers especially in northern California. Our first taste of fall! Hopefully this rain season will be as bountiful as last year.

An early start ..to an interesting Summer ahead??
by Silas_Sancona- 4 replies

Texas flooding and record rainfall.. a coolish and moist pattern back in CA/AZ over the past several weeks. A Hot/ record breaking Spring, and early start to our typical summer rainfall pattern here in Florida.. and TWO record Hurricanes already in the E. Pac.( Blanca likely to reach Cat. 5 sometime tonight/ early tomorrow) What lies a head. Some thoughts i have: ** Keep in mind, these are just thoughts.. this isn't anything official. Ponder with a "Grain-of Salt".** Expecting a VERY active Hurricane season with enhanced chances for remnant moisture surges into CA and the Southwest. Quite concerned about the potential for Lightning-sparked Fires this year. Could t…

And the show ain't over yet...
by tropicalb- 15 replies

The saddest part about all of this cold is the fact that it's STILL not over...it froze here in San Marcos last night (ice all over the tops of the cars and frost on all the roofs and lawns in my area, due to the fact that we actually had some moisture overhead available to freeze), it's going to freeze AGAIN tonight and probably tomorrow night as well.... Ice on top of the coldframes and frost all over at the Dad place in Vista this morning, taking a toll on palms and other plants that had shown little or no damage at all over the last six nights. At this point...i'll be surprised if I have anything over there left alive in 10 more days or so...

Quoted from NOAA SF Bay area 3:09PM DEC 17 "A COLD FRONT PUSHES ACROSS THURSDAY. EACH MODEL RUN IS WETTER WITH THIS SYSTEM...BUT THE WINDS LOOK TO BE LESS. THIS SYSTEM WILL HAVE MUCH MORE COLD AIR WITH IT...SO HAVE MENTIONED SNOW DOWN TO 2500 FEET. WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED TO SEE A COATING OF SNOW FRIDAY MORNING IN THE HILLS. RIDGING BUILDS OVERHEAD FRIDAY INTO THE WEEKEND. FRIDAY AND SATURDAY MORNING LOOK TO BE QUITE COLD...WITH 20S AND 30S POSSIBLY WIDESPREAD ACROSS THE DISTRICT. THERE ARE TIMING ISSUES BUT IT LOOKS LIKE ANOTHER ROUND OF RAIN AND WIND IS POSSIBLE AROUND CHRISTMAS EVE" Perhaps a white christmas in the hills? Looks like its go…

Another Job!

Well finally this is starting to pick up. I've been working with the Palm Springs Tramway since April, providing forecasts for them. I just recently picked up another client and to my surprise who it was when they called. (BP) British Petroleum wants me to be on their meteorologist staff for six cities in this region and make "custom weather watches" like I do with SCWXA.org. They are a major company so this is a big thing for my work. Very happy. Also, the bay area thunderstorms were predictable. Upper level low and enough mid/upper level moisture would set those off in what we mets call "elevated instability", similar to what we experienced in Southern Cali…

Heads up: A cold airmass is poised to descend into Califoria tomorrow following a weak storm. Most of the coldest air will be over Nevada but strong north winds should occur across the state. Wind gusts up to 60mph are forecast for the mts w/ less wind for the lowlands. When the wind dies down the temp will also drop so frost is a real possiblity in the usual windless low basins. NWS is predicting the following minimum temps for mid-late week: Los Angeles: 41F Pasadena: 42F Woodland Hills: 36F Anaheim: 38F San Diego: 43F Temecula: 33F El Cajon: 34F

Hi, Oke i know this storm is nothing by the status Hurricane. But tomorrow (thursday 18-01-07) a very nasty day. We get another storm, this will be the tirth one in three weeks! The expect windspeed above land, normally the don't be so strong, but this one it will be wind speeds to 120 km/hour = 75mph, but more to the coast the expect windspeeds to 140 km/hour = 87mph ... Above the sea and the norway coast can be expext windspeeds tot 160 km/hour 99 mph ... but that's not for here... At the same time the also expect a lot of rain ... in a very short time ... so i can be dangerous... The german weather service have also say the the people in the country if you don't …
