December weather 1 2 3 4
by Tyrone- 138 replies
Well it's December. How is it so far for you. Today we had a top of 27C, tomorrow will be 31C with evening showers, and then mid twenties with rain for another couple of days. Normally Decembers are totally dry with very rare rain for us. This summer may be a wet one, which will be nice. Palms are starting to really leap ahead now even though Nov was a full 2C cooler than usual. Best regards Tyrone

The old jet stream is shooting straight down the west coast and scooping across Arizona, dumping snow in our mountains. But here in the valley of the sun, it's about to go sub 32d F. NWS issued a freeze warning and because I'm in an outlying area, I don't benefit fromt he heat island of the city. Statement as of 1:52 PM MST on December 26, 2008 ... Freeze warning in effect from 1 am to 9 am MST Saturday... The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a freeze warning for much of south central Arizona... including the greater Phoenix area... as well as portions of Gila and Pinal counties... from 1 am to 9 am MST Saturday. Cold air is settling in…

Can This Be Global Warming!!!
by The Palm Nut- 11 replies

The summer rains that have been missing, atleast where I live, have come at last. Not only have they come but they have come with the tropical Northernly winds. And Iam talking about lots of rain, not the sprinkle we often get from the south which is anything but tropical . This is what it used to be like years ago. And what makes it even better, its not thunderstorms that ofter bring damaging hail, fortunately I seem to miss out on all the damage, touch wood. We all like pictures so here is one outside my dinning room window. Mike

Cold Weather Neurosis
by PalmGuyWC- 25 replies
- 2.2k views
I'm starting this as a new thread because what I see most in the weather threads is angst. We all complain about the weather, but there is not a damn thing we can do to change the weather. We could change our behavior by not growing tropical plants that we know, deep down, don't have much of a chance growing in our climate. We all grow marginal stuff which we go to great lengths to protect from the cold. If in containers, they can be brought inside, or if outside covered, or heated......at great expense. If we were all a little more practicle, we wouldn't suffer winter neurosis. We bring it on ourselves. Dick

It is predicted to be 34° from Weather.com and 37° from Accuweather. This is the first time I have been predicted below 40. Anyone scared? Me, I am considering getting the family to the bomb shelter and loading it with canned refried beans just in case it is a long one.

Great winter so far in So Cal
by Gtlevine- 10 replies
- 1.2k views
I can't believe how beautiful the weather has been this fall in So Cal. Now that winter is well on it's way, I have seen nothing but warm temps and lots of rain. So far the coldest temps were around 40F. That is wonderful for inland So Cal, I am positive about the upcoming winter and the predictions from accuweather that this will be a wet and mild winter for the southwest. We have had seven or eight years of below normal temperatures due to global cooling from the decrease in sun flares. That's right, global cooling. Global warming, unfortunately, has always been a big HOAX perpetrated for political reasons. So hopefully we finally get at least a milder winter in our par…

Oh, the Freeze of 1990. '91? Whatever, it was COLD
by DoomsDave- 4 replies
Howdyall! So, do you remember the heinous freeze of 1990? Nastier than [kitty-cat fecal material up the nostrils] and I mean nasty. Cold. I'd moved into my rented house in Riverside. That day, these two hot young girls in short dresses ( a style to torment, from ancient times) came around and said they'd be having a party, and sorry for the noise, but you're invited if you want to, but I was too tired from moving my [fecal material] into my new dive, so I stayed home. Slept on the enclosed patio, and it was COLD. But I was young, dumb and full of well, you know. The next day, it was obvious that it had been COLD the previous night. Oleanders f…

Apologize For Arctic Blast
by KMartin- 18 replies
For those of you that don't know. I am Kevin Martin. I was the guy that was in the articles about the arctic blast coming. Not sure how many panicked and hope that didn't do that to people. Was only helping in how a cold air mass was coming down, which did in fact bring rare snows to areas that normally wouldn't see it, like Corona / Temecula in upper spots, Banning, and hey even Vegas, so this was about right. True blasts are of the drier sources, such as 1990. Those are brutal to our plant and tree projects. Being a weatherman I enjoy figuring out if these conditions will harm our work. Luckily this one wasn't a drier cold. eek. In Corona, here, it gets th…

http://raleighwx.easternuswx.com/models/gf...nomalyNA216.gif This is a model outlook West Coast meteorologists are looking at. A strong high pressure system sets up over Alaska & descending winds usher in a very cold airmass over Nevada. This is the type of dynamics that can bring us a serious freeze [comes in the "back door" without the benefit of the Pacific ocean to warm the air mass like in 1990 & 2007]. This model is well over a week away & things can change considerably so it is too early to panic. Ten days out is considered a "marginal" forecast. Stay tuned

You Californians think its cold?
by Coloradoboi- 5 replies

This morning was the coldest morning on record in Denver for more than 10 years. My garden side thermometer recorded a temperature of -19 degrees Fahrenheit this morning at five o'clock. Yesterday it recorded a temperature of -15 degrees Fahrenheit in the morning. The high was only 11 degrees. It is unbelievably brutal outside. Everyone is afraid to go out. Pipes have been bursting all over the city. The power has gone out several times here, but I am lucky because I have a fireplace. I protected my palms. The low inside the canvas tent I used for protection was 0 degrees. I think that two of the three T-Fortunei that I had growing are goners. The oth…

Yes folks, it's that time of year again where because we see a million threads on how cold it is and complaints of same and of course palm threads on butiaJubeaSyagrus hybrid cross blah blah blah that I like to rub northern hemisphere noses in their own snow. Before I go any further I shall put on a long playing record by Buddy Holly as my background music, don't you love the sound of those old hisses and scratches ? "Every day, it's a gettin' closer, goin' faster than a roller coaster, love like yours will, surely come my way, ah hey, ah hey hey" So here we are in sunny hot South East Queensland and whilst we know we are in for "the next big storm", which is quite …

All this talk by Ray and Happ about this scary Siberian stuff caused me to travel(computer) over to Russia to see with my own eyes what the conditions are there right now.Well I am no expert on those conditions and for all I know they are experiencing the greatest heat wave since sliced bread. That stated, however, I found these Temperatures to be a little nerve racking. This was a quick search and did not encompass numerous sights that were very close in Temperature: Pokrovsk-(-51F) Sejmchan-(-51F with Mon/Tues low-65F) Ust-Maya-(-54) Verhojansk-(-55) Ust-Jjudona-(-59F) Clarjakon-(-59F) Zyrajanka-(-61F) Tompo-(-61F with a High/low Wed.expected to be -61/-76;is this …
