This palm is at Kopsick, but I'm not sure what year it went into the ground (definitely after 2010 though). These pictures are a little more than a year apart, which shows how fast this palm can be, even in Central Florida.

1 year old green Pacific tall spear
by GottmitAlex- 5 replies
I activated the lights just for effect (and for a better cell phone shot). One year and two month old pacific tall coco with most recent spear beginning to open up. I know. Why begin a thread about this since it happens thousands of times each day around the world? Not in Socal. I'm really proud of these cocos: Defying the supposed status quo. Wish my three talls had been dwarfs. But, hey! I'm not complaining.

I bought these two beauties approximately a year ago from Luke Nancarrow and equatorial exotics. I originally potted them up, but with the warm winter we had, quickly transferred them into the ground 3 months ago, where they have taken to like a duck in water.

I noticed this Adonidia had split a few years ago. Now it's just gone berserk. the right side split again, but the left side has 3 or more growing points. I predict the left side will fall off eventually. There is nothing above it that may have done any physical damage. Weird Randy

10 New Palms - Advice on Care
by poolgreelife- 5 replies
Recently had 10 new palms planted I believe two Sylvester’s and 8 Mules of it appears to be two different varieties. I’m in zone 8b on the cusp of 9a and curious to know what care instructions I should be doing to make sure these do well. Recently added a layer of compost and top soil and mulch to all. Sprayed with Liquid Copper Fungicide and have been watering like crazy. Have some brown leaves and yellowing. Anything alarming? IMG_2338.MOV

I was over doing some work at my previous garden (now a rental) and realized that it's been just about exactly 10 years since I "broke ground" there. I've moved some of the newer smaller stuff, but here are some photos of palms that I consider too big to move at this point... Starting with my all time favorite Chambeyronia hookeri var. 'ginormous'.

100+ in NorCal
by John Case- 14 replies

We are expecting 2 days of very hot weather here today and tomorrow. I recently got a couple of shipments (from Florabunda, which I highly recommend, BTW) that are doing quite well with one exception. I got a few extremely small Brahea sp. 'Super Silver' which did not pot well and are struggling right now. With the hot weather coming as a new stress, I am looking for some encouraging words. The older straps are yellowing right now, which to me looks like I have been overwatering, but in this heat, we may dry them out quickly as well. They are on the ground under protection from direct sun. Should I put them in full shade for a while? Thanks!

10a Suggestions in Sand
by ahosey01- 17 replies
Hey everyone, been a while since I have posted. We are selling the house and moving to San Luis, AZ. The soil there is mostly sand - not sandy loam, but sand. It is at least a Zone 10a. Some areas of town may be a zone 10b - there are some massive Delonix regia that I would have thought would have been fried in the 2007 freeze, but are definitely way bigger than 13 years old. Also saw what I believe was a big, old Sea Grape. Obviously I should grow a Delonix regia. I am also thinking about Roystonia and Dypsis decaryi. Anyways, can anyone else suggest some 10a/b palms that have low nutrient requirements and can handle the desert sun? Would like some stuff…

10b palms in Brevard county

I was in Brevard county for Christmas break and a friend took me to a few nice gardens. There were a few surprises as far as zone pushing goes. None of these are that close to the Indian River Lagoon, so they don't have much benefit from the water. Mauritia flexuosa: Euterpe oleracea x edulis: Nypa fruiticans:
