Some photos of the ol' homestead

So I've been sick much of the past 2 months and when I saw my internist yesterday, he told me to drink extra fluids and get lots of rest. That means no digging, planting, mulching, weeding in the hot FL sun. I always obey my various doctors, but he didn't forbid photography. So this afternoon I grabbed my trusty Samsung camera and shot some photos of some of my gardens. Hope to take more in the following days. In front of the house next to the driveway is my Sabal miamiensis - or whatever it is called nowadays. It will always be S.m. to me. It came from Rusty on Pine Island in May 2008 in a cone, almost croaked over the winter but sent up a alternate growing point. Now…

Hello Here's some pics on this pacsoa show day morning. Dypsis pembana with child, so it's a clumper and not a single it seems, I didn't realise. Here's a couple of pics to show you how tall a couple are getting. I stood next to them and took the photo myself, bit tricky (not cheating by standing on my toes either). My Cocos nucifera is getting along nicely. Chamaedorea plumosa is way up there, just see the tip of my hat.

I was trimming dead palm fronds today and cut off the bottom leaf on my variegated Bismark. To my suprise, the underside of the petiole revealed some very brilliant coloration, with pink, purple, green, and yellow striping. I still can't be absolutely certain it is the silver form as it does have some green in it and the leaf tips dryed out a little with our recent nightmarish winds. I was at Stater Bros a few weeks ago buying produce and saw that they had husked coconuts for $1 each. Remembering the past posts of "Germinating supermarket coconuts" I decided to buy one and grow it. While soaking it in hot water, changing the water every day, I went to plant i…

Hey Everyone, with it being "winter", I've been looking though some of the pics I've taken over the last year, and felt compelled to share and maybe get to know a few people around the forum. I've seen so many beautiful palms here, and pictures and they've all been inspiring! These are from my garden in Northern California Cherimoya

Some pics here at home

As the title suggests, it's been more than a kind winter so far here, with warmer than average temps and nice rains. This of course will change soon no doubt. I took some photos early this week here at home which I had forgot about, still in the camera, so here they are with a neat wet look, always the best look for palms imo. After some unwanted tree and bush removal I can finally have a good look at my Ptychosperma ambiguum. This guy has been having light reddish new leaves whilst it was shaded, we'll see what happens next time, now that it has opened up. The fence behind is 4 feet high.
