Some palm pictures from the garden..

Two days ago it was a beautifull November day with a blue sky and no wind and not to cold temperature. With the thoughts we are going to winter I liked it to take some pictures of some palms in the end of the growing season. I have not seen any frost yet and the long term forecast show also not any frost so far as I can look and even the temperatures going to rise 14-16C again this coming weekend. It looks like also November would be month number 10 this year what's going to be warmer then average. It's almost normal that the months are warmer then average here, in fact it's not really a suprize anymore.

I took a ride over to my friend Matt's house (Falcon1988 on this board) and took some pictures of his palms before we headed to Kopsick Palm Arboretum. Here are some of Matt's palms: A rare Florida Kentia palm. You don't see these planted much around here. This is probably the nicest one I have seen in the ground. And it gets some full sun too! A nice planting of Archontophoenix's and Foxy Ladies A nice chunky Majesty palm A double Foxy Lady and a small Dictyosperma in the background. Bismarckia at Kopsick Palm Arboretum And they are loaded with seeds again this year Green Bismarckia's underplanted with Silver Bizzies, and some nice F…

by NCpalmqueen- 10 replies

Some of you may know that last Spring my friend and I drove to CA to purchase palms that we couldn't find elsewhere. Half were large enough to plant out, and half were too small to plant. I thought I would list the ones that were planted and summarize how they fared through their first NC winter since I may have purchased them from you. (CA palms) 2 Brahea Armatas--Excellent shape. Periphery browning on the tips of one. The smaller one shows no signs of stress or damage. Nice surprise as I thought they would have browned out. Sabal pumos -- This palm was actually twins in one pot, so I just planted them both together. These have a beautiful blue/…

Whenever I wish to go green, I go to my nearby native plant nursery. The owner and I get on quite well, and the other day he wanted me to ID some of his palms at his residence that were planted by the previous owner. I said I'll go one better and post them here in PT for the rest of the world to assist in making a determination. Firstly, here's a few photos of palms I do know. A very cool blue looking Hyophorbe verschaffeltii (Spindle) Ptychosperma elegans (Solitaire) placed between Archontophoenix alexandrae An general palm landscape featuring a Livistona decora at back

We are having a nice sunny day here and I thought I would take some pictures and post them. Please feel free to correct any palms that I may have misidentified or to be more precise with their names. Washingtonia robusta and filifera are quite common along with Phoenix canariensis and I did not include any of these. I also took some pictures of other non-palms are will try posting them in the other section later today. Thanks for looking! Dylan Picture 1: All Start off with the Jubaeas one of my favorate palms. I took two weeks of my vacation and went with family to the beach in Guaratuba -state Paraná. The climate there at sea level is a humid subtropical and frost free. The vegetation of the Atlantic forest is luxuriant with many big trees, covered with aroids, bromeliads, orchids, ferns,lianas,etc.... There also grow some palms ,from emergent to palms that grows in the shade of the forest. There are several mounts (VERY old flatened mountains) and the coastal plane between them .Here you can see first the Morro (mount) do Cristo and 2nd Caieiras mount. 3rd Cristo mount where you see only somewhat stunted queens and 4th vieuw from the Cristo mount to the beach

When I still lived at my parents home I was free to plant all the plants I liked in their garden and most of them are still there enjoying the mild climate the western part of my country closer to the sea has to offer. Natural selection over the years has left only the hardier plants of certain species like Butia, Trachycarpus, Chamaerops, Brahea, Sabal, Cordyline (not a palm ofcourse), to name a few. It has been a long cold and windy winter followed by a abnormal cool spring and almost all the palms are showing this by looking hungry and looking a bit yellow with leaves being trashed by the winds but in a few months time they will look a lot nicer again. The B. …

Hello all, I know everybody loves photos... So, as my first post on this forum, here are some palms growing in Bokeelia, FL (northern half of Pine Island). First is Ptychosperma waitianum. Looked flawless until getting blasted by some cool wind over the winter. Leaf tips turned browned but that's about it. Really pretty palm. Thank @Mike Evans for these babies. You can see a smaller one growing to the left in this photo (just about to open a new leaf). The larger one has a small sucker at the bottom: Next up are my coconut palms. I have 15 coconut palms total but only about half of those produce …

Some palms in Chapeco and Sao Paulo, Brazil
by masatepino- 2 replies

Spotted some palms in Chapeco, Brazil, and in the Sao Paulo area. Maybe you can confirm the identifications: 1) Archontophoenix cunninghamia 2) Butia odorata (or catarinensis or another sp?) 3) Euterpe edulis 4) Carpentaria acuminata I also saw thousands of queenpalms, but I am not shure if all of them where S.romanzoffiana or are there other Syagrus planted in the Sao Paulo area that look alike (for example some smaller, with thinner trunks...)
