Some nice Phoenix roebelenii hybrids; P. roebelenii x ???
by Eric in Orlando- 27 replies
- 3.2k views
These Phoenix palms are growing at the front of a large wholesale nursery just east of Eustis, FL (about 34 miles NW of Orlando). There are planted with some Phoenix roebelenii specimens. These hybrids most likely have P. roebelenii as a parent but not sure what else is crossed in. The P. roebelenii have some cold damage from this past Jan ,they probably had 26-27F in that area. But these hybrids had no damage. They are great specimens.

Some night shots
by Walter John- 12 replies

Hi folks, Take one step forward if you missed me. Come on, don't everyone step back and leave Dean alone. Okay, I've been busy, aren't we all, the drought is terrible here and I have lost some precious ones to the dry. My network connection is on slow mode owing to my voracious appettite for downloading ranch hand movies. I finally dusted the camera and took some night shots of my Latania garden near the back deck. I call it the latania garden because there's two big latanias but in the photo you'll see the Chammy plumosa and hyophorbe bottle x spindle. More photos soon, with some Archo cunninghamianas in habitat from the town of bangalow.

Some night shots

I just stopped by Phil's the other day at Jungle Music. [Good seein' you Phil] I picked up a nice 3 gallon cyphosperma balansae (probably his last one at this size) Definitely my all time favorite palm. And also a Ravenea sp. He was suprised that I found one at this size. We had no idea what it is or what it will look like. Jesse did show me a Ravenea "Angora" in a 15 gallon pot and it had shiny leaves, that was cool! But this one doesn't. (Sorry for the poor quality pic)

Some shots of the main jungle in my yard up against the evening sky. Eventually I’ll get some more lighting put in my other palmy areas of the yard as I do enjoy the colors at night when illuminated.

Some of Ken Johnson's Work

I drive by this house that Ken did every morning on the way to work. This is just a shot from the back but I wanted to give Mr. Johnson an update on one of his legacies. These pictures do not at all represent the scope of his Palms and plants but I thought he may find it interesting from the growth prospective: This is an interesting tree that I believe Ken brought in. I am not sure what it is: Closer:

Some of my Chamaedoreas
by MattyB- 27 replies

Shade is a limited commodity at my place so I've never been able to really build up a large Chamaedorea collection. It's a shame because Chamaedoreas are some of the most beautiful and tropical looking palms around; the thrive in our climate as well. The few Chamaedoreas I do have seem to have migrated into the house and as you'll see, they make great house plants. They really are trouble free and watering them once a week is all that is needed. Chamaedorea klotzschiana, grown from seed by Colin in Kiama, OZ! This baby is really starting to look nice with the irregular leaflets. And the classic sea foam green trunkal regions.

Lee is attending the Biennial in Miami so I'm left to my own devices in trying to get the genus and species correct for this post. In truth I resorted to describing the location of a couple of these with her by phone to get a name, but if I've misidentified any of these or left out a species name, please feel free to correct! On my own for a week I thought I'd post the palms that I am particularly fond of. Please enjoy. Some of my palm and other plant collection salvaged. 1 2

I ubruptly moved to Pennsylvania 3 years ago and had to leave all my palms and other plants behind. My dad was nice enough to take the hundreds of plants to his house but he moved last January to an apartment and couldn’t bring any with him, so they all went without care for a year and a half. We went over today and picked up what was left including what in-ground stuff had survived. Despite losing most, quite a few survived, so not all is lost. Four of over 15 Cocos survived, a pencil pointing Archontophoenix(species?), a Chamaedorea, an unknown palm species, two Veitchia, a S. romanzoffiana and a double Ravenna rivularis. A large triple Adonidia had two tru…

We've had quite a rainy spring this year, with snow continuing to fall just 40 miles east of us at around 5000 feet in elevation. At least here on the valley floor, all of my plants seem to be enjoying the extra rain coupled with 70 degree weather. Here are some pictures i took this morning, hope you enjoy! First, Jubaeopsis caffra! i never get tired of looking at it. My neighbors must think I'm weird.

Some of my Pinangas
by metalfan- 13 replies

I know that I post mainly in the off topic forums. Why? Because I am not as "far along" as many of you with your lovely palms! But, take heart... I do LURK on a lot of your palm threads and soak up every word of your knowledge. I have been working in the greenhouse changing some stuff about, and noted that some of my Pinangas have really grown! So I took a new set of photos. I don;t think I have shown my Pinangas here before...many of these were eeny teeny seedlings when I got them in April 2006. These were from my "first wave" palm purchase from Hawaii. This is Pinanga disticha
