This is derivative of a post about a first house. Let's not lie, or deny that access to land is a big part of this thing. So, show us your first house, even if you already have, but, especially if you haven't yet.

Show us your FLORIDA Chambeyronia's
by palmtodd- 22 replies

There isn't much info or photos of growing Chambeyronia's in Florida. It seems like not many people have them planted in FL? I'd love to see photos of some in different lighting positions and see the results . I think this palm is under planted mainly because it needs some shade when young and most yards I see in FL don't have the canopy so landscapers / big growers just ignore it? Here's photos of my Chamey's last two leaves it has thrown, it is growing in shade of other palms.

These are one of my favorites. They grow well for me with plenty of water and fertilizer. This was originally planted in probably 2015 or 2016 and was in a 2 gallon pot with 3 others. I let them all grow in the ground for a year or two but then decided to edit out 3 of the 4 so that I could get a big, fat trunk going. Show off your Majesty Palms!

Saw MattyB's post about indoor canopies the other day and thought we could expand. Show us where you work! What do you have in your office? Personally, I use my office space to protect some of my stuff from the salad-bar cat at home. Left to Right - D. Lutescens, Christmas palm, Ch. costaricana, Ch. glaucafolia Some broms, a croton, and a mangrove Sea Grape, Phil, and Ch. elegans BONUS: I honestly don't know what happened to this Phil, but the newer leaves are over 10 inches long and 8 across.

This will be my forth palm that I rescued from the compost pile at the local dump. Such a treat on Halloween day…I seen it under a heap of yard waist…dragged it out and I knew that I had a container back at the house... so I rushed it back and gave its thirsty roots a good drink.

Show us your Problem Areas

I was just thinking today that just about every gardener I know has a part of the yard that for one reason or another just never seems to be everything they hoped for. I've got one. It's the back corner behind my garage. It's an awkward spot, not really appropriate for hanging out due to the proximity to phone and electricity lines. There's not nearly enough sun for growing veggies or fruits, or fruit trees - even weeds don't grow here. My neighbor's huge oak litters the ground daily, so it's constantly in need of raking/sweeping. To top it off, this area has no irrigation set up. Every time I think about doing something to spruce it up, I'm overwhelmed and end up putting…

Show us your Roystonea borinquena's 1 2

I think Roystonea borinquena is a great palm for areas where R regia and oleracea struggle a bit. There are some nice specimens in So Cal and even No Cal ( I think). I've got one plant I grew from seed and in around 3 years it's about 8ft tall. It's now too big to fit under my patio. I'll post a pic this arvo. So if you've got a R borinquena show us some pics. Best regards Tyrone

Show us your Shippia Concolor
by steve99- 10 replies
The Shippia Concolor doesn't appear to be that common in cultivation, not here in Australia anyway. Personally, I think it's a great- looking palm thats well worth having in any garden. I've had mine in ground since 1997 and its about 10-12' high now. It's handled some pretty tough conditions too, yearly frosts, as well as very hot and dry weather, none of which seems has any effect on this tough species. Anyone else growing this palm?

Show Us Your Valentine’s Day Potatoes
by LilikoiLee- 8 replies

As usual, Mike and I exchanged Valentine’s Day gifts this year. He tracked down this Dypsis baronii for me. But since he didn’t need a new O’o bar I was stuck for an idea. But then while grocery shopping a couple days ago I spotted the perfect gift in the produce aisle. I immediately snapped it up. It made me wonder how many of you also gave a Valentine’s Day potato to your true love? Lee

Show you propagators and your ingenuity
by Phoenikakias- 3 replies

I guess that all fellows in the tropics do not need artificial heating and propagators for germination of palm seeds. But the rest of us living in temperate zones depend on these constructions for an optimum to at all germination and need is even bigger the more northerly or southerly accordingly our temperate zone lies. And things get even more requiring, if we consider that many fresh seeds are only available during our winter time. I such cases a propagator is a sine qua non and I dare say not only for germination but also for keeping alive the tiny new seedlings protecting them from a damping-off risk until spring breaks in for good. Of course you may find also vario…
