CIDP Problem
by Kailua_Krish- 3 replies

Hi all, I was just wondering what is up with my CIDP. Most of its leaves dies after this winter but after it warmed up it started sending out a lot of new ones, and continues to do so. The only think is that while all of these new leaves appear deep green and healthy they all are very limp and hang towards the ground, is there anything I can do or should I just let it grow out of this? I would have thought be now it would have started making normal leaves... -Krishna

Foxtail unusual spear development?
by Markie- 3 replies
Hi there I'm hoping for some advice as I'm a bit of a palm novice. I have a few foxtails all doing really well, new spears all shooting straight up and then opening. I have one however that the new frond is opening as it emerges. Is this ok or could it point to a problem? I am guessing that these areas are the farthest Northern areas in the US were you can plant a large variety of palms outdoors and they survive. look at the zone in the extreme south west of the state.

Sabal species ‘TexMex’ id thoughts
by TobyM- 1 follower

Howdy yall. I’m making an effort to identify a beautiful Sabal which has been growing for at least three and not more than five years in a prototypical type locality of the North Texas palm: a mexican restaurant. I would have quickly assumed it to be a Sabal mexicana based on its size, depth of the costa, as well as the general abundance of this species hereabouts. But when I approached it I quickly noted the abundance of erect inflorescences, a quality reminding me more of S minor. Yet behold; the panicle is branched thrice, unlike minor. My next observation pertained to the plant’s performance during the ‘even younger dryas’ Texas Valentine’s ice age 2021. It is on…

Hamadryas amphinome on which Roystonea sp.?
by David Clulow- 3 replies
I noticed this butterfly on a trunk of one of my roystoneas this week. It is one of those butterflies which makes a clacking noise as it flies and its common name is the Red Cracker - it is red on the underside of its hindwing: The photo is not too bright, it was taken in natural light, it would have been better with flash but by the time I had set the flash, it had flown away. I am still very confused with the specific names of this genus - would these two be correct: The one shown as R. ? oleraceae was raised from seeds from RPS labelled R. regia and the tentative R. regia was raised from seeds collected under a Chaguramo on the campus of the University of Cara…

Dypsis sambiranensis 'Pink Crownie'
by edric- 3 replies
Last spring during tropical storm Debbie, it rained non-stop for five days and five nights, on top of it I was under the weather with my affliction, and having a hard time getting around, so I waited the five days before venturing out into my little jungle, well when I got out there, much to my dismay, I found one of my 'Pink Crownies' lying on it's side, it must have gotten knocked over straight away, because it was growing at a 90 degree angle, and I mean almost 90 degrees, I'm not kidding! I was going to take photos but at the time I was so ashamed and embarrassed, that I just couldn't bring myself to take photos of it, wish I had now, anyway, I said to myself I'm not …

Transplanting Palms

So I know a guy who sold his house and is now trying to sell all his palms before the new owner takes over. He said he is doing this because the new owner told him that he will be renting the house out and wanted a low maintenance yard. Anyway, he has a nice dual Kentia with the larger one (10 ft) having about 15 inches of wood. There is also a nice Dypsis Lutescen that has several trunks with over 4 ft of wood. This thing would be tight in a 24" box. Both are planted in full sun , about 1.5 miles from the beach. The house is about 2 miles from mine (Huntington Beach), but I am also about 1.5 miles from the beach. I am interested in purchasing these palm…

Archontophoenix cunninghamiana

Bought this little palm last fall on eBay. I potted it and promptly forgot it on the porch for our first freeze. Then it got blown off of the porch and stayed out of the pot roots exposed for a day. I planted it too early in the spring and it caught another light freeze. Just as it started to grow, spring winds tore it up so bad I had to mummify it to that t-post. So, it starts growing and looking good and here come the hurricanes. Again, I mummified it to the post. And yet here it is looking great again as it prepares to face its first full winter. Like the Energizer Bunny it keeps going and going. I am betting it will make it, at least till we have a "bad"…

Jubea move...
by quaman58- 1 follower

Hey all, I have a Jubea, grown from seed that is about 3-1/2 feet tall, with a trunk base of maybe 6 inches or so. I planted it years ago in a raised planter bed, where not much would grow because of nearby neighbor's pine trees. Fortunately, the pines are now gone, and since I'm replacing a railroad tie wall with a more permanent block wall, I figure now's the time. Anyone with experience in moving these? Now all I have to do is figure out a place to put it, ha ha.

I seem to remember getting the links to these articles on my email, but got busy at the time and they just got deleted and I forgot about them. But yesterday I stumbled upon them again, and holy cow, Phil has really outdone himself with a massive amount of information and tons of pictures. For those of you who aren't on Phil's email list, or haven't seen these articles, I thought I'd share these articles written by fellow forum member, Phil. Great stuff Phil, thanks.
