   Since I took my V. splendida out of the pot and planted it, the leaves have gotten bigger and broader. I love the spines on this palm, they look so cool in contrast with the other lighter colors

   I posted a thread a while ago about leaf burn on my P. caesia and insignis. I've since fixed that with lower light, but the leaves are still a very light green (almost chloric) and almost totally lack the mottling they had when I first got them. Is this due to too much light? I keep them well fertilized and out of any direct sun, but still in bright light. Any way that I can bring back that deep green color they once had?

   I love this little palm because it has been an extremely easy grower for me. It has quadrupled in size, easily, since I got it. How much bigger will it grow? I have two, planted in different locations.

   Hi All, Heres a few photo’s I took the other night of part of my side garden, Towards the front yard, To the left is Dypsis psammophila, (I’ll get some day time pic’s ones of This one, (Flowering again) . Lower middle is one of 5 forms Pinanga distichia (White U/side) in pic 1 I’m growing. Behind that is 2 Calyptrocalyx elegas Var: mara, and To the side of that Calyptrocalyx elegans Var:Kal Ketyik.

   Hi to all. I am a brand new member of the organisation and this is my first attempt at entering a topic/introducing myself/posing a question. 30 odd years ago I moved from Melbourne to tropical Darwin, NT, Australia and commenced collecting/propagating palm seeds. I created a monster. I am now retired and live in the slightly more temperate climes of Hervey Bay in Queensland, Aust. on a block of aprox. an acre and a half. I now have in excess of forty different palms growing on my block, and many hundreds in my shadehouse. To my enquiry; I cleaned the husk and flesh form a number of Bismarkia seeds and set them in a tray of good potting mix almost 12 months ago. I am told…

   An interesting story. I was out kayaking on Saturday. We went down to South Point on the Big Island of Hawaii. There was an old boat ramp destroyed in 1956 and not much left except some pavement that breaks off into a cliff. Anyway, we lowered our kayaks down with ropes and off we went... We found many "secret" beaches of various colors like green, white and black. These were only accessible from the ocean. It was only us and the sheep on the cliffs.     Growing up in Southern California, I’ve always enjoyed palms… my first almost foray into palms was when my dad suggested that I begin digging up all of the volunteer Washingtonias all over our 10 acres of orange groves and sell them to local nurseries. Of course, after digging up a couple in the decomposed granite soil, I realized that my 15 yr. old attention span was seriously compromised. Jump to 2000… honeymoon in Tahiti/Moorea/Bora Bora.     A perfect opportunity arose when Jason (screename "Tag") brought me a palm over while he was here to see family from Jax. It is originally from Frank and Elaine @ Moultrie Palms. here she is resembling a queen palm more in my opinion. it took this past cold snap with a low of 23 degrees with overhead protection and looks looks perfect ( so do my larger queens also)

    Transplanting Palms

    So I know a guy who sold his house and is now trying to sell all his palms before the new owner takes over. He said he is doing this because the new owner told him that he will be renting the house out and wanted a low maintenance yard. Anyway, he has a nice dual Kentia with the larger one (10 ft) having about 15 inches of wood. There is also a nice Dypsis Lutescen that has several trunks with over 4 ft of wood. This thing would be tight in a 24" box. Both are planted in full sun , about 1.5 miles from the beach. The house is about 2 miles from mine (Huntington Beach), but I am also about 1.5 miles from the beach. I am interested in purchasing these palm…

    I just exersized self-restraint. I didn't place the order right when I recieved Toby's newest seed list... It has two palms that I am absolutely in love with that I have wanted to add to my collection... Copernicia baileyana and cowellii.... I didn't place the order...     Palm ID - could be somthing new

    A vendor here got some new plans from Indonesia and among them was one plant that looked reall cool with its silver gray leaves. This is the upper surface of the leaves -- not the undersides. He was thinking it was a Sommieria - but I thought that all of those has simple 2 pronged leaves with no divisions. I was thinking it might be a Calyptrocalyx. Any experts out there who can figure this out? Mikey? Clayton? I think this is your neck of the woods.

    Seeing what Colin did in the Basselinia thread got me thinking. What are the advantages and disadvantages of planting a palm in it's pot? I'm in the opinion that it might be a good idea for marginal palms.
