Our next meeting of the PSSC will begin at 11AM Saturday, 20th of May, 2017 at the garden of Gregg and Debbie Hamann. Their home is located in El Cajon, CA - about ten miles east of San Diego off Freeway 8. As a group over the last few decades we have seen this garden twice before. It was begun about thirty years ago and offers an amazing selection of rare palms, cycads and tropical plants. Pathways meander down a southern exposure slope with exciting plants at every turn. April's BPACS outing is to the Tamborine Mountain Botanic Gardens, Forsythia Drive (off Long Road), Tamborine MountainPlease note that due to recent flooding and bridge washout, the main road from Oxenford to Mt Tamborine is currently closed. There is a detour in place via Reserve Road, Upper Coomera. Alternatively you can go via the Cedar Creek or Nerang-Canungra routes...all are scenic drives so make for an enjoyable trip.We will gather in the car park at 10:00am on Sunday 23/04/17 and then walk the gardens, which contain a diverse collection of plants, along with some nice stands of palms. Palms were our favorites. We did test plantings for a few years as we worked out a planting plan. About that time we met Herb Weber and our knowledge of palm trees and the International Palm Society took a giant leap forward. The flood of January 1982 changed all plans. Palm Beach Palm & Cycad Society Annual Spring Sale - April 8th & 9th, 2017 The society is having their Spring Sale this weekend. The fall sale from last year was cancelled due to Hurricane Matthew, so there is a heightened vibe surrounding this sale. Vendors and Society members are expecting a larger than usual crowd. Both of these gardens are great examples of what you can accomplish on small suburban lots. Annual PSSC Banquet January 21, 2017 Balboa Park, San Diego This year we are very fortunate to have our Annual Banquet in beautiful Balboa Park. Just north of our meeting room is the Palm Canyon which makes for a beautiful stroll and contains 58 species of palms. Further north is the Botanical Building, one of the largest lathe structures in the world. it houses over 2100 plants. The Palm Society of Southern California's November 2016, meeting, potluck and auction will be held at the home of Greg Haines and John Cressey at 2170 Mendocino Lane, Altadena, CA on November 19, 2016, starting at 10:00 a.m. continuing to about 3:00 p.m. Greg Haines and John Cressey joined the Palm Society in 1976. Arizona Palm & Cycad Society Open garden, potluck and "swap meet" is firmly set now for May 21st noon until sunset and the home and garden of long time member OB Kingsby at 1901 E.
