Avatars

I thought that I had too large an address for uploading as a avatar. Last night I tried every way I could figure and failed each time. I even tried a 90 x 60 pixel thumnail. Here is the picture from my garden that I want to use as an avatar, this is the large version: http://bp2.blogger.com/_UwGkeJ84ueM/Rz5Vqt3Mg3I/AAAAAAAAAt4/LBl6GZBCNMc/s1600-h/talipot2.jpg

What does the "Ignore" button do?
by osideterry- 2 replies
- 2.4k views
On first glance I would expect it to ignore a poster (say Dave from So-Cal... because he uses words like egads and pulcritude). Then would there be missing or blank posts? How about a missing or blank topic? Or does it just not update the envelope icon saying there's a new post. I really don't want to goof with it and ignore Dave.

THE PALAPA IS HISTORY
by PALM MOD- 0 replies
- 2.5k views
I have received directions to remove the discussion about the removal of the Palapa as well. Apparently that too was becoming too controversial. So for now, this thread is closed with the following message only: From the President: "Due to potential liability issues that have been brought to the attention of the IPS, it has been deemed necessary to shut down The Palapa. The IPS apologizes for any inconvenience."

Sympathies to Fellow Brits

This is the worst in living memory and I hope you havnt been hit too bad. Esp if you are in the nursery trade or farming (Nigel scores twice here (ouch!) I was badly flooded once but not quite all the garden and I tried to take away something positive which is I now know for certain my gardens levels. I Also got our Council engineers to clear our drainage ditch of detritus and th deepen and widen it. So this time no flooding. Anway things could be worse ; apart from 2 million plus pounds of damage and some minor damage only two guys have lost their lives. It could have been worse and more is forecast soon. Apparently this weather "should" have gone to Iceland but we …

Guys I will try to borrow another system in the next week or two. My main phone line still works but thats about it. Main cable at the local exchange is being repaired and the guys have already repaired my personal phone line so in an emergency such as ("my palm is growing toooo fast; what do I do?")* members can find my number in the IPS Directory. Regardez Juan * send it to me!

This Board
by bubba- 29 replies

Since the passing of Robert Rifle, this board seems less interesting. The discussions seem to center exclusively around Californians talking amonst themselves. This "clique" seems to run the board and only respond among themselves. When a topic is posted that should garner some legitimate discussions between Californians(ie the fate of the Keitt mango commercial operation in Coachella), there is no response or worst yet a question about how information was obtained by a Floridian when they could have driven to the location and seen it with their own eyes. The "clique" meanwhile discusses ad nauseum the fate of their foot tall "cocos nucifera",while taping fake leaves onto a…

On-line photo libraries
by mike in kurtistown- 6 replies

I have used as online photo library to post picture libraries for fellow palm hobbyists. The photos I post are jpegs. I found a few months ago that if I tried to download, it was in a weird format that could only be used by the photo library. For maximum usefulness, a photo should be downloadable as a jpeg. Now, I find that I cannot download a file, even from my own libraries, without "registering". Does anyone know a library which allows free downloading, as jpegs, without "registering"?

IMPORTANT --- POLICY RE: DELETING OLD TOPICS/POSTS 1 2
by PALM MOD- 64 replies
- 12.1k views
This was briefly eluded to several times in the past, but needs to be officially discussed and enacted soon. It should be obvious that we can not keep every single post forever. There are several reasons this is impractical, as well as problematic. I am proposing a policy, and would appreciate some feedback. I am proposing that we delete every topic that has not been "added to" in 6 months, with the exception being the Palapa where topics would be deleted after 3 months of inaction. This would allow anyone who really likes a topic, and would like to see it kept alive, plenty of time to "bump it" (save it) before it's deadline arrived. This policy would be the easiest …

Deleting Personal Uploaded Avatars
by gavilan1- 1 reply

How do I get two (or at least one) uploaded avatars that I made deleted? I uploaded them after Photoshopping them (they are my work), but last night I noticed that someone else in FL. had begun using one of them (Cocos1 and Cocossunset - same image - different colors). I thought that personal avatars were "personal" I wouldn't want to start using the image of Dypsis Orange Crush because we all know that Bo Goran uses it. I made my own custom image and only uploaded it so that I could use it. However, it became a part of the list available to all. I later used a Photobin URL to display the avatar larger (http://www.photobin.us/uploads/82acd0d096.jpg). Any remedy her…

Should I post the CRDB info on the freeze data collection board? I think it might be useful, but it also might be misleading because not all of what is posted on CRDB is probably accurate. Any suggestions, I mean, I don't want to post what people consider to be useless.

Is there a way to configure the way I view a post so that all of the text can be seen in one screen? It often happens that the width of the text portion of a message is wider than my screen, and I have to scroll back and forth to read each line.
