by ZPalms- 0 replies

I noticed today that my JXB started leaning, Is that natural for it or is their a problem? I got some potassium fertilizer on its way but something tells me theirs rot happening since the leaf is looking a bit weird at the bottom but it does have brand new growth but even that looking a bit damaged. When I walked out it was completely leaned over but I tilted it back up using one of its old strap leaf

Cold Weather Transport of Potted Palms
by Funkthulhu- 0 replies

Whether moving homes at a not ideal time of year, or just being a doofus and promising some of your palms as temporary décor for an event (like me), cold weather makes moving potted palms risky. Assuming you have a warm space to start/stage, and a warm car/truck/van to put them in. What's the combo of temperature and walking distance (and wind!) that you would risk your mobile forest? Assume no critically tropical varieties that drop dead if the get a whiff of 40F. Personally, I get worried if it's in the 20s (Fahrenheit) and the wind is high. I once walked a big potted ivy 20 yards to my car (covered with a blanket!) in single digits calm weather and it …

Hello Palm talk. New here. my leaves started to turn dark green recently and can’t figure out why. There is some spotting as well. Lowest leaf is fried. Second has dried over the past week and developed spots. Second leaf looks great but is developing some creeping dried looking dark greens. Newest leaf developed and is looking great. See pictures Care details Its by South facing window and supplementary led light from 1-5PM. 50-65 humidity, temperatures range 76-82F. Moisture meter measuring low medium moisture in pot. I’ve been watering once a week when dry, from the top, letting it drain into a saucer. I’m scared of overwatering since I’ve lost a l…

Amending soil for Lady Palms
by Cecile- 0 replies
I recently built new planters in my backyard and filled them with “Moisture control potting mix” from Miracle Gro. It was a lot of bags! Unfortunately we ended up deciding to plant large Lady Palms (Rhapis Excelsa), for which this mix is not ideal, I was told. I’m fairly new to palms and wondering… 1) Whether I can keep this mix and water less often, 2) Remove a fraction of it and amend the remainder? If so, what would you use to amend it and in what proportion? 3) Or do you think I should replace it all? If so, what type of mix do you recommend for palms? I realize now it was silly of me to get potting soil before being sure of what I wa…

Bringing the indoor palms out for a shower
by Dimimelbourne- 0 replies

It’s been getting slightly warmer here in Melbourne, so I thought I would take the opportunity and give some of my indoor palms a shower. It’s been a pretty hectic year and I haven’t been as vigilant as I could have been. Unfortunately my C. Renda looks like it’s been a snack for some kind of pest over winter. I gave it a really good spray with the hose so I’m hoping that bumped most the pests off. I’ll try and do this more regularly now that it’s warmer. I repotted my Licuala ramsayi earlier this year, it was in some very dry soil mix and when I took it out of the pot, all the media just fell away from the roots. I tried to pack in as much soil around the roots as …
