Hello everyone, looking for some advise on keeping’s these two “flame thrower palms alive in the office. We keep the office temperature around 55-60° at night and 68-72° during the day. Resident of Livingston California zone 9b...they are next to a window to get some sunshine, and I do take them out for some sun if its warm enough. How othen should they be watered? Currently in some Homedepot palm mix, I added some perlite for drainage. no fertilizer added..once spring comes around, thinking of doing foliage feeding and slow release palm fertilizer. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also trying to keep a Dypsis Mayotte alive in the office.

I need your advice. On Saturday, I will receive a Cocos Nucifera from someone, which does not grow well in this person, because it is too dark in the apartment and there is no adequate air humidity there. I would like to provide the palm with the best possible conditions. All I know is that the palm was purchased by this person 4 months ago. Over a week ago, it was transplanted. The flowerpot has no drain, although it has expanded clay at the bottom. The leaves from the purchase in the store were said to be torn and brown at the tips. But apparently one leaf this palm developed. My questions are: 1. How to secure a palm tree for transport by car (I live in Poland, zone …

3g to 10g Pot for Ravenea Trio?
by knell- 2 replies

Would a jump from 3 gallon to 10 gallon (11-37L) be too much for a Ravenea rivularis trio? They need to be sized up for the spring and that is the size I have available without going and getting another pot. I feel like water retention shouldn't bother them too much since they enjoy wet soil, so my instincts say it should be fine.

My C.met has a fruit. Its currently very dark, almost black, but it is still firmly attached to the stem, which has turned orange. Should I pluck the fruit and extract the seed, or must I wait till it drops?

My friend and I are dorming together at Tulane next year and I want a nice christmas palm in the dorm because i really dig its bright green color and the way the fronds are. Problem is that no one in New Orleans really sells these palms because they can’t be grown outside here. Anyone know where to get one in August/September near NOLA? I think I might have my car next semester too so if I absolutely have to drive to like Florida I might.

I recently moved to a new apartment with south/east facing windows, so I'm getting constant sunlight. Any insight would be much appreciated! Got this back in July 2021 It's in a 14" pot Not quite sure what the soil mixture is like, but it's fast draining Placed in shade and still receives upwards to 1000 foot candles of light. I water when the top 2/3 inches of soil are dry. I water it in the bathtub and I let it dry out before placing it back in the clear container -- is it fine to use this clear container? Have not fertilized 2 new fronds have opened up, 1 is growing

Worlds smallest coconut in the smallest pot?
by Rickybobby- 2 replies

Ok you all know my drill and my bucket of hot water routine. The bucket method is used to get store bought seedlings germinated and roots established to pot. Well today I have an interesting specimen. This guy germinated on me back in late winter store bought. One of the interesting things about this guy is that he has stunted and been slow. He throws a root stub out and then another. Also barely any water left. Which is strange so he has thrown me a curve. But being in the bag this long with no air circulation and no medium posses a challenge so today I decided to put him in the smaller pot possible. With my mix is course pool filter sand and a tad of coco coir just to k…

Hey everyone, I have a ton of 1-3 gallon sabal palmettos in my house and my wife and I are getting a little antsy to put them outside. Our extended forecast calls for mid 40s-50s during the day and low to mid 30s Fahrenheit during the night. Just wondering if these will mind coming in and out of frosts for the next couple of weeks. I know I can wait but am just curious. Also probably joining IPS soon so I can sell some, there’s so many…

I'm curious if keeping soil warmer using a heat mat under the pot can help/trick your palm when they're indoors? Or would the fronds need an equal ambient temperature to make a difference?

Veitchia Fading/Graying?
by Funkthulhu- 1 reply

I have a couple juvenile palms in a large-ish (3 or 4 gallon? bottom watering reservoir) pot in my apartment. North facing window, but it's a full patio door. These guys have rarely seen full sun and have been slowly chugging away for about 7 years (since seeds were collected in 2012). Now, the largest of the 3 in this pot has started thickening around the bottom (still narrower than my wrist) and its top-most frond almost touched my 8 foot ceiling before arcing over to hang a good 6-7 feet at its highest. No changes to heat, light, water, or fertilizer in the last 3 years. This winter it seems that the fronds are "fading". Or that they're edging into a lighter …

What size pot to buy for Areca palm
by ERock82- 1 reply
- 1.3k views
I recently bought an Areca palm that is in a 7 gallon pot from Home Depot (about 14 inches diameter by a foot tall- common size for a $40 plant). I am going to have this outside under a tree so I only want this to grow to about 8 feet. It is currently about 4 to 5 feet tall. What size pot should I buy? At Home Depot the sizes are in inches in diameter rather than gallons. Many range from 15 to 20 inches that I saw on the shelf. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
