Germinating palm nut is stuck

I am germinating palm nuts I gathered at a cousin's wedding. I gathered a ton of them back in September and kept them in a moist bag. These three germinated, and on very different timescales. I think it was one in January and the other two in May. I am concerned about the one that is sticking straight up appears to be stuck in its shell. The seed is not lying on it's side like the other one. When I bend it over it bounces right back. It's been stagnated that way for about a month now. What should I do? I've seen YouTube videos of germinating tomato seeds with the shell being pulled off the cotyledon, but this is much larger and harder. Thank you! Glad I found this forum.

Palm Update #2: Majesty Update + My other Pygmy

Earlier this month I had posted about my Majesty palm and how it was developing spots. I have new photos of all of my palms and one I have never shown. New growths on Majesty! my other super healthy Pygmy date Same Pygmy as for the Majesty it looks the same to me. This is the only frond with this kind of spots. I’ll leave it up to all of you whether or not I should prune it.

This is probably a hella stupid question so apologies in advance, but I have this large Chamaedorea elegans that is constantly flowering and producing fruit, and it seems all hopeful as the fruit turn to a peachy color, but then immediately fall off premature. This plant is constantly always flowering year round, but I was wondering if issues with pollination could cause this, Pic below is the fruit a day before they all fell off

Just went by Tallahassee, Florida and went by a nursery and bought a Mule palm. I was really looking for a Pindo palm but this will work as well hopefully. Does anyone know what type of slow release fertilizer is used here and in other pots? I never can find the green kind around these local stores. See last picture for the type of fertilizer I'm talking about.

I am in mesa az and a couple of trunks are dead on some of my potted Pygmy palms, can I cut off the dead trunks without hurting the palm? Do I need to cover the stump with anything after I cut them if so?

Hey everyone. The nice hot weather here in Kentucky has almost all of my plants grow like crazy. The only ones are my Foxtail Palm. I overwintered it in the Garage (second year) due to its size (9.5 feet inc pot). I had lost all of the leaves except the spear due to it being not bright enough and possibly to dry and spidermites. It’s been back outside since it’s been consistently in the 40s at night (late april) but there has not been any movement on the spear. No growth. I checked and no spear pull and it looks still really good and green. I put a mark on it to see if it would move but nothing. Hi my name is Jon and I’m hoping for some help or advice with my potted Kentia Palm in Maine. I received this about two months ago. About 2-3 weeks ago I noticed some yellowing to browning on a single frond following repotting but there may have been the earlier stages prior to repotting and I was blinded by enthusiasm. I use Lesco poly plus opti 8-2-12 for in the ground palms and it works great, but it says on the bag “do not use for palms in pots”, any suggestions for a high quality fertilizer to use for palms in pots outdoors in full sun and in a shade house? Preferably something that is available in 40 to 50 lb bags

I don’t have much experience with growing palms let alone in Zone 7a. With that being said, I would greatly appreciate some advice. My main problem I seem to be encountering is that the leaves yellow and brown. I have tried moving them in a spot with a little more shade, changing the frequency of times I water them, and some of those spikes. There has to be something I’m not doing right. Hi all, I often read on Palmtalk that palms in pots are not happy long term (bounded roots, lack of fertiliser, too dry and too dark indoors, species preferences…) but I wonder is it really so bad? I mean they don’t just die without any visible reason. Why does my warm loving bizzie seedling grow at all if it’s so “doomed”? What stops it from just dying immediately, huh? Hi all, just rescued this magnificent beauty from b&q, first time palm owner so any pro tips gratefully received I've got her secured and propped up, shes in a bath at the moment with some feed, and then I'll probably prune the most obvious parts off. I purchased a Meditteranean Fan Palm and put it in a 20 inch pot about 11 weeks ago. I live in Arizona (Zone 8b). The Palm seems to be doing well and is getting new growth. I am planning to start fertilizing with Oscomote Plus, and from what I read this is probably a good time to start. Can anyone give any recommendations on how much to use and how often to apply it?

I was given a CIDP about a month ago. It's about 3' tall, a couple dead/dying fronds. It was very root bound. They didn't want it when it was given to them and they never once watered it or cared for it at all. When I got it the soil was so dry that it shook around in the pot like a stone. I've since reported it into what I now think might be too big of a pot? Hoping I can save it and get a nice big plant for years to come. I received a young licuala with multiple fronds and trunks about two weeks ago from a nursery that grew them outside in Florida. Seemingly in the past few weeks or so, it looks like all the fronds on one trunk dried up entirely. I'm not a palm expert but it *appears* to there are multiple trunks in one root ball. It came unpotted and I put it in an orchid mix + sandy soil: basically 90% bark + soil in a plastic nursery pot within a cache pot. It sits about 10 feet back from a south facing window, obscured by furniture to avoid direct light, with around 40% household humidity. Hello all, I bought this palm from a nursery last weekend: It was labeled simply as a “Fan Palm” at the nursery. I’m 80% certain it’s a Chinese fan palm (Livistona chinensis), but it’s also a young plant so I was wondering if it’s possibly something else? Hey everyone! So, I bought my Fox Tail Palm in Orlando, Florida back in May, and I absolutely love it. I don’t remember if it had brown spots or a bit of yellowing when I got it, but it does seem to have a few spots. It’s in a pot, and we’ve been watering pretty much daily because it’s been really hot and dry here in Southwest Virginia. Do y’all have any suggestions as to whether it’s too much watering, or what it might be? The soil seems to drain well. Thanks!

Hello: I purchased a Licual Grandis plant in March 2024, and replanted to a larger pot with soil and perlite mixture and added extra perlite. I use the slow release food within the soil also. It gets indirect sunlight in a Florida room, but now the leaves are closing up instead of remaining open. Does anyone know why this is happening and how do i stop this from happening? I am not at all an expert. But I've had what I think is an Areca Palm for around 13 years. Within the last year or two, it's started sending out shoots or runners from dirt at the edges of it's pot. They continue to grow slowly and new ones appear over time. See photos. What are these shoots/runners? If they are related to reproduction, is there a way to propagate them?
