I noticed that there was no growth on my Tifton Hardy palmetto and the spear had turn to a straw color . I gave it a tug and sure enough it pulled right out . If the palm doesn't make it , I can at least make a broom out of the center part that pulled out lol . Below is the spear that pulled out . I put a mark on a stick after pushing the stick downward till I hit hard tissue . Below is a couple weeks ago . Below isa picture taken today . I think it's growing . My larger HC Palmetto had only a little tip damage . Below is an overview picture of the palm . Thanks for looking . …

First time I've ever seen these in at Home Depot in East Tennessee. One says a Wodyetia Foxtail. The other pic I took was not labeled. I honestly have no idea. I just guessed perhaps a mule palm. They also had lots of Pygmy Date Palms.

I know one of my neighbors grow bananas(I think thats what it is) and elephant ears. another has palms in pots. Thanks.

Does discovery cove in Orlando Florida have an ideal microclimate because you see large and healthy coconuts, dypsis lutescens, bottle palms etc. I thought Orlando dips down to 28-30 degrees ferenheit. Any one have knowledge of this?

I have several Trachycarpus Hybrids. I really like the Hybrids. The first I have a question about. Nanus x Waggie. Do you think it would trunk. Since the female part is Nanus seems like take after more of the Nanus. The other I have is Nova x Waggie. Just want to share of the growth rate. Started sprouting in March.

Fan Palms for Ohio

Hello. I have been researching online and here, for information about a large, cold tolerant fan palm, but there has never been any testing in my area or a colder Zone 7a. I am planning to plant a Washington Filifera or Brahea palm tree in my yard. I have a large 6ft Jelly Pindo Palm that survived for 5 years and is still alive, here in North Ohio with absolutely no protection except good placement and sometimes a blanket. What are the chances of a large Palm like Washington Filifera will survive, and hopefully grow to 20-30 ft tall? Do you recommend any other palms that have a better chance of living here other than dwarf small palm trees and the bad looking windmill pal…

Etsy Plug
by ColumbusPalm- 0 replies

Hey All, It seemed so hard to find people that would ship cold hardy palms so I decided to get a truckload from North Florida. My Etsy is ThePlantZoo and I am in Columbus, OH. Local pickup is cheaper as these larger palms cost a lot to ship. It will also be a bit cheaper to pay via PayPal friends and family or Venmo if you wanted to, I am happy to do so just shoot me a message. The Sabal minor by far look the best and the silver saws look pretty nice too. I also got some Needles, Trachies and Butias but they are all a bit smaller than I thought they'd be. Just thought I'd put it here if anyone is shopping and wondered who the hell plant zoo is lol…

Pre 2021 naturalized Houston queen palm
by Little Tex- 7 replies

Ok so I was clear out some stuff on a sheltered part of the house to maybe plant a palm there and to my surprise there already was, my neighbors to the back had two nice sized queens before 2021 so it must be from that, so I guess bushes and a south facing wall were enough to get it through 2021 unless it germinated after

I've never seen this kind of damage before. Potted Jubaea, growing indoors, looks like something is munching on the stem. Now that that I'm looking closer I see what I believe are fungus gnats,, are they the culprit?? This jubaea has been growing strong and healthy and I just noticed this today.

Phoenix Date Palm ID & Seed viability?
by Dwarf Fan- 5 replies
I have found what I believe to be a Phoenix Dactylifera growing at a condo complex on the Island that is currently dropping seeds all over the adjacent public street so I decided to collect what was on the ground. Question 1: Am I correct in IDing this as a Phoenix Dactylifera? Question 2: I opened up a couple of the Dates to take a pic of the seeds and they seem under developed compared to the ones I seen online which seemed more fat and defined. Do these seeds look viable? Question 3: Does this species self pollinate or does there need to be another Phoenix nearby?

How wet can Nannorrhops and Uresana tolerate?
by Keys6505- 6 replies

I have a few vacancies that have opened up on my fence line thanks to the last few TX winters. My ultimate goal is to have a wall of trees so I don't have to see any other houses from my yard. I am including an overall pic so everyone can see the nearby trees that are seemingly unaffected by the soil conditions, albeit they are not desert species like the ones I am looking to plant. The small tree on the left and the larger on the right are L. Chinensis, the second to the right is an Arenga Englerii. All 3 have survived total defoliation over the past 2 winters. The second spot to the left is just a placeholder clearance Majesty and in the middle is an A. Wrightii th…

HC Palmetto progress
by WSimpson- 2 replies

Here it is on June 2, 2020 : Planted June 5th ( It had a fat ball on it weighing 250lbs + , and I needed a few guys to help haul it to its planting spot ) : Here it is today . I guess you could say about 13 months of growing season since being planted . ( It was a well healed in plant at the nursery with lots of roots ready to really start growing out , and it did start growing immediately after planting . It even flowered that summer . It was as good as if it had been planted from a large pot , so it really wasn't like a freshly cut HC Palmetto . I think they said it had been at their nursery for 2 se…

Trachy Health Question
by GregVirginia7- 5 replies

There is a perimeter of fronds on my Trachy that have very pronounced yellow segment tips...the newer fronds above this line are clear of any of it. The lower fronds have always had a slight case of it but it’s more pronounced on this ring of fronds...it’s gotten two Palmgain feedings this season...wouldn’t concern me except it’s so pronounced but only occupies about two inches of the segment edge...

Hi all! New to the world of palm tree care and just need some expert advice. I recently acquired a few varied palm trees and one seems to be infected somehow - possibly mealy bugs? However someone has said maybe it’s fungus related? Appreciate any advice Matt
