I have a bunch of already-germinated Carpentaria acuminata seeds that I'll gladly send to those who want to try them. And I'll even pay the postage (US). There's probably 100 or so to divide among the first five requesters. Carpies grow fast and should be good for developing canopy fairly quickly. These are perishable... so PM me by Saturday. After that, they go in the compost pile. Lucinda M.

Last time I went to the States, I purchased a 10-pack of small bubblewrap cushioned mailers. I thought these would be the perfect size for mailing small quantities of seeds . I collected fresh palm seeds the other day and since I have some extras, I would like to offer them to other forum members. I can send out 10 packets of seeds. Please see my thread in the main forum for photos of the palms Click Here I would rather keep this simple, so please choose only one species (by number) and I will mail you 10 seeds. Send me a PM with your name, address, and the species of your choice. If I get 10 responses, I will post and let everyone know when all the seeds are go…

Sabal Riverside seeds
by Patrick- 38 replies

Hi Everyone. I went to Dick Douglass house on Saturday and he was gracious enough to give me a whole BUNCH of Sabal Riverside seeds from his tree in his front yard. I'm sure he can elaborate more on the history of his tree, if need be. At any rate, I only need about 50 seeds (and even then, that's too many) and I've got about 300 or so extra. I'm willing to send these out to whomever wants to grow them. Just PM me with your info and I can send you a batch of about 15 or so. If you want more (within reason) just let me know. I want to make it fair for everyone. I will send the stuff out on Saturday so y'all can get it soon enough. I'll just send seeds until I run ou…

Assuming that B. armata is relatively easy to find out west and that S. repens is not easy to find out west, I'd like to see if anyone is interested in a trade of equivalent plants. I'm looking for plants w/ character leaves. I can get S. repens including the silver variety in most sizes. B. armata has proven difficult for me to get past the strapleaf stage here in north Florida. Once it gets some size, they seem to hold their own much better. I have rarely see it for sale, even at palm society meetings, etc. The large plant at Dr. Young's property in Tampa really is awesome.

Hello Palm afficionados I just remembered U.S. postal rates go up May 11 and I got palm seeds left over. During last year's steep learning curve, I picked and cleaned a variety of palm seeds. This year I am SO over that. Anyway I divided the leftovers into 12 baggies per species and am offering them to Palmtalk members. The particulars: 1. The first 12 people to PM me with a name and mailing address will receive the seeds. 2. Take all or none. No negotiation, no haggling. Hey, they are free. 3. I want to mail all seeds no later than May 9. Species available: Acoelorraphy wrightii Adonidia merrillii Archonotophoenix sp. Coccothrinax sp. misc. (NOT the s…

Free Brahea
by Kim- 8 replies
- 2.4k views
This palm was grown from seed believed to be Brahea nitida(calcarea). However, it does not exhibit the B. calcarea white underside to the leaf, the leaf looks a bit stiff for a calcarea, and there is some slight armature on the petioles, so I believe it is a different Brahea. It was planted about a year ago, or slightly less, from a 1-gallon pot, and has put out maybe 6 new fans since then -- fast growth by my standards. The reason it is free -- and this is very important to note -- is because Brahea are known to be sensitive to transplant. I am willing to trench for a month to six weeks, but not longer. This is taking up prime space in the garden, and I have oth…

Syagrus romanzoffiana seedlings

I have 40-50+ queen palm seedlings sprouting in the middle of my shade garden. They got to go but, dang it, sometimes I'm too soft-hearted for my own good - it's the mother in me. I was tempted to hack them out and toss them on the compost pile but that seemed awfully harsh (even to queens) fate for these little guys who escaped the seed weevils. My husband suggested I offer to give them away (assuming anyone wants them), so I said, "Why not?" I've never sent seedlings before but I guess there has to be a first time. Will someone step up and give these guys a home? They're kind of cute in a baby palm sort of way. I convinced 3 to pose for photos. PM me if intereste…

Hi everybody….I have a few palms that I would like to give away….ah, but there is a catch……. In order to take possession of these trees, I only require one thing: 1.That the recipient becomes a member of the IPS for one year, or, 2. Ravenea xerophylla for trade
by PalmGuyWC- 0 replies
- 1.9k views
I was reading in Palm Talk that R. xerophylla has become very scarce and there may not be any seeds available for years. Large specimans are now hard to find. I have a 10 gal. size that I've owned for about 5 years, and the plant must have been aprox 10 years old when I got it. I don't think it will grow outside in my harsh, wet, cold winter climate. I have adobe clay also, so I think it would be a death sentance to plant outside. I would like to see the palm growing in a nice warm, well drained place in S. Calif. I have babied this plant for 5 years, so I'd like to see it grow to its potential. Mine has been grown outside but overhead protection in the winter. It should …
