Hello dear listeners once again. I took so many pics of this spot that I thought I'd place them in a special thread of it's own. Oh, and by the way, to all who wish to have a very pleasant stay at Byron, don't hesitate to contact Paul and Maree at Suffolk Park Holiday Park. This place is brilliant. Tell them Wal sent you and I'll get a free ice cream next time I visit. Suffolk Park Holiday Park Web Site Ready ? Okay, we're going in........ The road in with Mount Chincogan in the distance. The community blew the budget on this sign let me tell you. Red Latania

Just driving around today on errands and got the idea to take my camera along and take some pics of a few palms in the nearby area. The I.E. (Inland Empire) is the fancy name they've given this area of so cal. (not to be confused with the O.C.) here is a tunnel of healthy P dactylifera just outside of my place of employment

Howdyall: The best posts are the ones by people in these places like Amazonia, etc., that show everyday life there in pictures. I drive around my new hometown, and I don't care, but maybe someone from our far-flung family might find it interesting. So, if the Moderators consider this to be off-topic, go ahead and move it. . . . . . In this picture, I'm in the No Va, and driving westward across Cypress Avenue, down a nice tract of houses. Note the toweing washies in the background.

Byron Bay and surrounding areas

Hi folks, well I'm back from my week down at Byron and I have to tell you, it was palms and more palms. I did have a couple of dips in the pacific but the water is getting colder now. I stayed at a friends place at Suffolk Park on Tallows Beach. They were holding the Byron Malibu surf classic whilst I was there but a damn northerly blew in and the day I took my camera it was cancelled. One of the guys from the original "Endless Summer" was competing. I took photos galore from these spots: Byron Bay township itself. The town of Bangalow. The town of Mullimbimby. The areas around where I stayed including Broken Head. It'll take a while to get organised with t…

Amazon Life 1 2

Since many of you expressed your interest in life in my part of the world and my scenes of everday life I decided to do another thread. I am driving back and forth from Manaus to Boa Vista now and spending more time on the road than at home lately. The 775 km trip takes me from the end of the equatorial winter season in Manaus to the start of the Equatorial winter season in Roraima. It is interesting what a simple trip across the Equator does to the seasons. I have been out on the road for a week now. My little lady Raquel came north with me last Monday and went back to Manaus on Saturday. I will probably be home by Thursday some time. We first came up to Boa Vista…

I just came across this website and wanted to share. These photos are not the best ones I've seen of Rio but it is interesting to take a complete panoramic 360° view of the most touristic spots. I hope you enjoy, especially the beach scenes in Copacabana and Ipanema. Rio de Janeiro 360° photos

Eungalla (pronounced Young gulla)
by Tyrone- 26 replies

Now that I have broadband I can check out all these travel threads and put some of my own on. In Oct 05 my wife and I drove from Brisbane to Cooktown visiting all palmy places we could. In the past I posted pics from Brisbane to Rockhampton BG but ran out of time for the rest with dial up. I've been going thru my old photos as we're going to do the trip again with a couple of palmy friends of mine in July/August. The trip should just blow them away as it did us. Queensland is the state of the palm IMO. These photos were taken at Eungalla pronounced "Young gulla" about 80km inland from Mackay and a few hundred metres of elevation. This place can get cool to cold in wint…

Jerry Andersen's place, Big Island
by MattyB- 22 replies
- 2.2k views
After we left Bo's place we just had to stop in and see Jerry at his place in Leilani Estates on the wet side of The Big Island of HI. Jennifer was pretty much palmed out and was very patient, taking some time to relax on Jerry's porch and read. Here's Dean and Jerry sizing up a Marojeyja. A look across the pond at the house. This house was beautifully done and smelled strongly of flowers inside. Nice planter.

Burning Palm Trees

I was up in Roraima state this week. Roraima is the next north of Amazonas which borders Venezuela. I frequently go there these days for business reasons. I drove up to Boa Vista which is about 800 kms from Manaus. The road is not the best, but being fixed up. But, the traffic is not much, mostly trucks and buses. This is still the dry season in Roraima, whereas we are in the middle of the rainy season here in Manaus. About 200 kms north of Manaus, near the equator the climate starts transitioning into the Roraima dry to wet season cycle. The rains should start in Roraima in from 30 to 60 days. Therefore the pasture land which has been cleared along the highway i…

Some stuff around Kona, HI

I've got lots more pics to share if you guys are up for 'em. I know you are. After this thread I think I've got another 3-5 in the works so sit back, relax and put on your aloha shirt. We arrived on the Kona side of the Big Island and were greeted by my Uncle, DeanO (aka our Moderator, or as Paul likes to call him Modulator). He immediately took us to the beach for an afternoon of lounging around and looking at the swell build. Looks like a Corona commercial.

Lundkvist Palm Garden 1 2
by MattyB- 45 replies

After a nice drive from Kona, over Sadle Road (we waved at ElHoagie because he was up at the observatory at the same time), and into the Hilo side of the Big Island, we jumped out to be greeted by Bo Goran Lundkvist. Dean jumped up on the porch and I took this shot! Jen took a picture of Karolyn, Bo, Dean and Me! We got settled in, exchanged pleasantries and began our garden tour! I soon realized that there's no possible way to document or create a single thread about Bo's garden. It's just too extensive. So, you just have to shoot it as it strikes you. Here we go! by MattyB- 18 replies

Hey yaalllllll! Sorry for the retarded topic title. (Mod edit: I fixed it) Don't know why that happened but it's probably Paul's fault. I know I'm late but I've been so busy and I've got so many pictures I've wanted to share. We left for our vacation to Hawaii the day after the last PSSC meeting and I almost forgot to post my pictures. Here's a few just for the fun of it. Paul, Kim and myself carpooled to conserve gas. There's been some recent discussion about this tree lately on the forum: Mindanao Gum tree (Eucalyptus deglupta). Inside the conservatory.

Manaus a tropical city of contrasts 1 2
by amazondk- 54 replies

I drive around the city of Manaus quite a bit and the contrasts and history of the city always draw my attention. I would like to share a bit of this with you and hope you find it interesting. Today Manaus is a modern city of around 2 million inabitants which has most of the characterstics of any larger Brazilian city. But, due to the cities isolation it also has a few differences. For one the urban violence so common in cities to the south is a lesser problem. The city is a mix of older buildings dating from the 19th century, sprawling unorganized neighborhoods, and modern apartment buildings and up scale housing developments. Due to the industrial district loc…
