Kebun Raya Bogor, Indonesia 1 2

While visiting in Jakarta, I took a side trip to Bogor (~1.5 hour drive) to visit the botanical garden. I am sure some of you have been here before. I am not going to post a lot of pictures here as I am not satisfied with the picture quality. I was using a borrowed camera, since my wife took the good one with her and the palms did not photograph well against overcast mid-day sky. You can peruse the entire album if you wish. For reference, on named palms I tried to take a picture of the name before the palm, but unfortunately not always. I will make no attempt at naming unlabled palms as I am not qualified to do so. Identifications are welcome of course! Intere…

For those that live in Costa Rica or have been there, if you were to choose 2 of the following 3 places to go, which would you select: Tortuguero National Park Corcovada National Park Las Cruces - Wilson Botanical We're planning on coming to Costa Rica for the IPS 2008 Biennial in May. I am not sure where they are taking us on the biennial tours, but the above are options for "pre" and "post" tours. How much rain can we expect the 1st two weeks of May ?

If one has the bucks, this place could have much potential. View the slideshow using "full screen" mode. Little did I know 38 years ago when I was there that it would one day be sold. http://www.roosey-roads.com/photo-tour/

Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens

Hi everyone, well today's BPACs outing was cancelled due to the flooding around Clayton's Utopia. A few of us already had palm fever, so we decided to go to Mt Coot-tha for a quick tour to see how bad the damage was due to the drought. The Green boys, Wal and myself took a leisurely 2 hour stroll around the gardens. Mt Coot-tha Botanical Gardens is the main public botanic gardens in Brisbane, replacing the old City botanic gardens in central Brisbane. The gardens were started in the mid 1970s, and cover the sides of Mt Coot-tha, just west of the city centre. The climate is mild, and most of the gardens is irrigated, however with the water restrictions they have s…

South Texas

Just wondering how close to tropical the cities of South Padre Island, Brownsville, and even Galveston are? Any cocos, royals, etc? And, what's the climate like in the Rio Grande Valley? I've looked it up, but all I can find are temperatures.. Also, since it's pretty far south..are the waters as clear and turquoise as, say, Fort Lauderdale or Miami?

I spent a few days down on the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica over the past two weeks. I stayed at Bosque del Cabo in Cabo Matapalo. The roads were atrocious to say the least, but that also keeps development to a minimum. Entrance to Bosque del Cabo. Gardens around the Lodge

I made it to the Canary Islands
by kylecawazafla- 24 replies

I felt like it was necessary to include this caveat that there will be a flood of photos from the island of Tenerife and maybe more in the near future. I arrived here about a month ago and still have another month left. Carlo Morici has been a paragon host and friend, and pretty much knows everything about every plant which can grow here... which is every single plant on this earth. I don´t want to praise the islands too much though, just incase I convince everyone on this board to visit here. I can´t wait to share the photos from here.

My wife and I will be vacationing to Ft. Lauderdale for 5 nights starting on July 4th. Any good nurseries or gardens I could visit? I'd like to bring a few smaller things back home on the flight. I did it in San Diego and feel confident on this one too, just need some advice on what to see. I'm also planning on spending a day in Key Largo. Thanks

Where: about a block away from Aquatica (which looks to have tropical palms inside too, I could see lots of royals and foxtails). Okay, so again, no camera, but wow. Roads lined with royals AND cocos (LARGE ones)! What a sight. I really recommend anyone in Orlando to check it out. Super sweet eye candy.

We began with the Limbocker Garden at 9am. This garden is unique, in that it was started just 3 years ago with mostly liners. The size of the palms can only be explained by some extraordinary soil ammendment and irrigation engineering. Here's John greeting people as they were arriving.

On my recent trip to So Cal, Ralph Velez was so gracious in showing us his tremendous garden. Thanks Ralph! He has painstakingly noted the species and the planting dates of his palms. Some of them were planted in 1961!
