Today across much of California temperatures were up to 20 degrees below normal. With the exception of a few warm weekends the weather has been remarkably cool and somewhat cloudy since April. The models suggests no change in this pattern. Today: LA: 74F\ 23.3C San Diego: 65F\ 18.3C Palm Springs: 89F\ 31.6C San Francisco: 70F\ 21.1C My house: 70F

So I am not exaggerating when I say that this spring has been the coldest on record and the absolute worst that I have ever endured. It has been absolutely dreadful here, even by UK standards. The whole of the UK and most of Europe has been affected by unseasonably low temperatures for about 6-7 weeks now, since early April. The whole of 2021 has been pretty bad for here and the rest of Europe with below average temperatures and snow/freeze events in both January and February. Although March was okay and marginally above average, temperature-wise, both April and May have turned out to be the coldest spring months on record for the UK and most of Europe. I have spoke…

Future USDA Map 1 2 3

Unfortunately my computer crashed last year and it looks like I have lost a few things. I had a USDA map of 2012 and a (NOAA I think) simulation of what the map was predicted to look like in 2035 or 2040. I scoured the internet tonight trying to find it but I came up empty. Does anyone happen to have this map or a link to where it is found? Thanks

November ended warm and December is starting that way. Supposed to see a cooldown tomorrow but nothing too serious. The palms have slowed down now despite at least 2 straight weeks of mid 80's for highs and mid 60's for lows with a fair amount of humidity. This leads me to believe that a lot of palms' push to grow comes from the sun angle and intensity more than the temps this time of year. Everything is still slowly growing though. Rain would be nice. I don't think I had measurable rainfall in November...Hope December brings mild temps with some rain.

December weather 1 2 3 4

Well it's December. How is it so far for you. Today we had a top of 27C, tomorrow will be 31C with evening showers, and then mid twenties with rain for another couple of days. Normally Decembers are totally dry with very rare rain for us. This summer may be a wet one, which will be nice. Palms are starting to really leap ahead now even though Nov was a full 2C cooler than usual. Best regards Tyrone

While folks in SE Florida are swimming in rain, the west central area hasn't seen much rain since the calendar changed to 2023. I don't see much relief in the short term.

No changes on the long range forecast, a very slight drop in temperatures but generally continuing to be unseasonally mild. This morning at 06:34 it is 13°C/55°F, which is a few degrees warmer than forecast.

Detailed Weather Zone Map for San Diego County

I picked up today's paper and there is a detailed weather zone map for San Diego. My home in Bonita is at the junction of zone 24 and 25 so one of the warmer areas in San Diego county. It also helps that I am up on a significant hill with cold weather drainage. I though others might want to see the map so I scaned it and I hope it loads. Patrick

Miami And The Tropic Of Cancer 1 2

I realize the Tropic of Cancer is an important area on the earth. What makes the sun appear directly overhead on the summer solstice? I know the tilt of the earth has something to do with it but : *Is the curve of the earth steeper or different in that part of the world and that also contributes? It appears so when you look at Miami and the tropics ( from the side ) of a Google Earth download * Is it necessary to go somewhat below the Tropic of Cancer to get tropical level sunlight intensity, vegetation etc. or is Miami close enough to the tropic line to get those benefits most of the year? *If you had to compare latitude 25 N to the true official tr…

The Australian Tropical Cyclone season has got off to a flying start with number 1 in the Indian Ocean - TC Alenga. Currently Cat. 3 but expected to weaken and dissipate before reaching the WA coast. One likely side effect may be to draw down the monsoon trough which is somewhere over Indonesia at the moment.

Hi Everybody Does anyone have any good suggestions for planting cool looking fast growing trees that would provide canopy in a few years to avoid frost and radiational freezes. I'm trying to build a micro climate for my Vista property.
