When I am away from home, I constantly monitor my buddy's weather station down the road. It is on the Kona side of the Big Island at about 1000 ft elevation. I thought some of you might find it interesting. http://www.turquoise.net/~cmoss/weather/Cu...Vantage_Pro.htm

I just want to hear people's thoughts on weather stations. I've been through about 4 in the last 5 years. They never last for me. The best was 21 months before the outdoor sensor went crazy and started showing 38C at midnight. Really disappointed as I paid a few hundred dollars for it. What are people using and are people happy with the performance? Particularly interested in ones that have lasted at least 5 years.

Does anyone have a recommendation for an advanced Weather Station? Something that can use wireless technology to talk to maybe 5 - 10 output sensors? The key thing is one that will connect to your PC so you can download data and track it, graph it, etc.

What weather stations you have for your palms and house and how you think is the quality ? I have much curiositey on this theme. Many persons post temperatures they register by their homes. But what brands models of the home weather stations you use ? In the last 2 months I look for a better home weather station. In the last week I order Oregon Scientific WMR200 with UV. Anybody use this ? I find very good reviews for this system.

I'm not very happy with my current indoor/outdoor digital thermometer. It displays the temperature in 0.1 degree increments, but only records min/max in 0.5 degree increments. I didn't realize this until I noticed the pattern when posting those temperatures to my web site. It also has some commonly used controls relegated to the back of the display (i.e. the button to switch channels), and when the batteries go bad in one unit I need to remove them from all units to reset the entire system. Periodically I see threads on this board regarding weather stations or indoor/outdoor digital thermometers and I know at least a few folks here use them. Since the technology is con…

Weather stations?

Somehow I got stuck looking www.ambientweather.com all day long.... Maybe all this freezing weather everyone is having has something to do with this... So I was curious, do any of ya'll use these systems to monitor the conditions of your immediate conditions in your locales... I would think this would be very pertinent data for our discussions... If so, which systems do you uses and what do you like/dislike about them? I think it would be cool to have all this data compiled on a computer and stored for reference... Kindof like creating our own "Farmer's Palmanac" (No one roll your eyes at my cheesey verbage, Thank you! )

I saw some highlights of the first round of The British Open golf championship yesterday. The weather looked brutal for July. Highs were only in the 50's F. There was extreme wind, and of course some English rain. The event was at Royal Berkdale in Merseyside, England. Nineteen players with scores over 80. There were some big names in that group also. I love when the elements demonstrate our insignificance and challange our best atheletes during sports. Or even when weather influences other big events. I guess where I'm going with this is for people to think of some events where weather significantly affected the outcome of something important. A couple exam…

Over the years , I've had a few problems with WU , but they usually get it straightened out eventually. Beginning a week or so ago , using my long used Bookmark , It did not go to the usual , start page . The bookmark has been there for several years . Now it goes to a maps selection page . Formerly it went to a page with a large USA composite map , with smaller maps underneath that , and we could select maps for different data maps that we wanted . Each one of these had a button to select various area of the World etc to focus on . I like(d) it . I have tried various other addresses at WU to try to find that original page , but can't…

While reading through the local discussion I came across this and thought it was worth posting.... needles to say it was a long discussion and pay attention to the last sentence Problem 3: one of the very few times I hope a forecast busts...but it appears southeast Texas could see some significant ice problems early in the week as colder air filters in and overrunning moisture and disturbances prolong the precipitation into midweek. Threat appears to begin late Monday afternoon across northern portions of the County Warning Area as temperatures fall below freezing. Then as the remainder of the area falls below freezing Monday nt...threat expands to almost …

Weird December... 1 2
by Funkthulhu- 66 replies

So, just rounding out Xmas week here in the great plains of Eastern Nebraska. Looking at the projections for next week. December is, so far, weird; even for our standards. The average temperature for the state is (depending where you measure) anywhere from 5 to 15F above normal. It will be at least 45 on Christmas day and the rest of the week tapers off to actually, maybe, give us snow on the 29th. It is currently raining outside... In any other year the amount of precipitation received would have resulted in 8-15 inches of snow a week and a half ago, and likely another 6-10 inches today. But instead we have rain that isn't even really that cold. Serio…

Weird Spring
by Coloradoboi- 4 replies

Out here in Colorado we have had a very strange springtime. Seriously. It feels like January in California. So far in May I have recorded 2.24 inches of rain (which is a pretty good amount of rainfall for our area). We have had a bunch of cool rainy days with some afternoon sunshine. The High temperature today was only 53 degrees. It snowed last weekend down here in Denver. Fortunately, Nothing accumulated. The mountains have so much snow this year that ski-resorts are closing this weekend because of avalanche danger! But I am ready for some warm weather!!

Welcome rain now, ..Potential cold to kick off December later??
by Silas_Sancona- 6 replies

After a very dry start to the rainy /snow season, and resultant extreme, extended end to the fire season across Cali and the Southwest, the first in what looks to be a series of storms is currently rolling in across Nor. Cal. and the PAC. N.W. atm. While it's looking like most of it will miss Southern CA. and out here across the low desert for now, the current forecasts are still suggesting subsequent storms should finally bring rain back to both areas and snow up in the mountains. If some of the more aggressive forecast models pan out, much of SoCal. could see at least 3" of possible rainfall towards the end of the month, with higher amounts / possible accumulating snow …
