Texas Freeze Map
by ahosey01- 1 reply

Hey everyone - As I drive around and explore my new state, particularly north of here, I find myself trying to piece together what the 2021 freeze might have been like based on surviving palm populations. At one time, I remember there being a map of Texas with all of the temps for towns depicted on it, so you could have a clear picture of where the lows were. I can’t seem to find that now though. Anybody remember what I’m talking about?

For those who have lived and remembered then, or have studied the events well enough, how do these freezes compare? Both of which are El-nino winters.

Temps OK here

If we don't get a substantial amount of rain in Feb-Mar, this coming summer is going to be a disaster. Temps on the other hand have been quite mild in San Diego. These are readings so far in January from a place just down the hill from me: http://www.wunderground.com/weatherstation...mp;yearend=2010

I didn't see any posts on the impacts of the volcano eruption and evacuation of Leilani Estates, and know that some folks who post are either in Leilani Estates or nearby. I was wondering how everyone is doing while hoping for the best? Volcanoes are sort of weather.

What the hail?
by Hillizard- 1 reply

Strong storm with lightning, thunder, rain and hail passed through interior NorCal this afternoon. Temperature dropped from low 60sF to mid 40sF in a few minutes. Doesn't look like it damaged most of my palms as the hailstones were small. Events like this happen almost every winter here, but once a season is enough!

From weather underground: Public Information Statement Statement as of 12:00 PM EST on January 11, 2010 ... Historic cold weekend in South Florida... Temperatures over the weekend and early Monday morning plunged to levels not seen in 20 years over South Florida in the wake of the Arctic cold front which blasted through the region early Saturday morning. Temperatures remained at or below 50 degrees for more than 48 consecutive hours, finally rising above 50 during the late morning to midday hours Monday. Although no records are kept of consecutive number of hours at or below 50 degrees, it is likely that this streak is among the longest on record…

Heating and Cooling degrees are a good measure of climate. To calculate, you take your locations High and Low and divide. This number constitutes your average temperature for the day.To compute Cooling/Heating degrees, you take your locations average and add or subtract from 65F.Accordingly,if your average temperature was 70F.the Cooling degrees would be 5 for that particular day.Correspondingly, if the average temperature of a given day is 60F.,the Heating days would be 5. For the first 10 days of December, the numbers are as follows: Texas-Brownsville;C-72,H-11;Harligen;C-89,H-14;McAllen;C-102,H-16;Laredo;C-85;H-8 Florida-Key West-C-121,H-0;Miami-C-115,H-0;Ft.Laud.-C-…

The morning of Jan.1 came in with a blast. We had three days of hot dry hurricane force winds. It blew 70-100KPH for almost three days.A major electrical line was damaged and most of Guatemala was without power.I lost power for five days and just got internet service today. Here are a few photos of my garden at the finca. Heliconias ripped to shreds and then dried like potato chips.

After a sometimes wet / sometimes cool winter, we arrive at what can be the best time of the year here in the Southwestern U.S. and Mexico as another Monsoon season begins.. The heat, Cicadas and Toads, Saguaro fruit and Mesquite Bean harvests, hot, lightning - filled nights / humid afternoons, and lush tropical greenery which can spread far and wide once the rains arrive ..this is the season anyone who appreciates and respects the unsurpassed beauty of such things eagerly awaits every year.. While no two years will be exactly the same, we all understand not all will be perfect. Some will bestow upon the viewer the greatest gifts the gateway to the tropics has to…

Floods in the are man made.
by Explorer- 1 reply
Maybe an off topic here. but people should know that the current floods in Europe are manmade. Farmers have destroyed the upland moors and vegetation because they want dry land. As a result villages and cities downstream get flooded! And the drainage was even subsidized by taxmoney! A bloody shame! And destruction of upland native vegetation by man is also a problem in other parts of the World. Where upland native vegetation gets destroyed by man, sooner or later there is a price to pay... http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2015/dec/29/deluge-farmers-flood-grouse-moor-drain-land?CMP=share_btn_tw Alexander
