I planted one in 94 and its nearly 7' tall. Roughly when will it flower? I appreciate that will depend on many factors. It is in a warm, sunny position. I have certainly seen a few in flower at 10' and once in Spain at only 8' or so. Any opinions or is that an impsosible question? Many thanks for your help guys. Regardez Juan

by Exotic Life- 6 replies
Hi, What do you think of you're april? Give it a number, i give a 9. Our april, was the sunnest ever, was the warmest ever, and also the dryest ever. I have got no rain this whole April! there are also broke a lot day records, because also the almost 30C/86 early in april was on some places never early so warm ... For now records are almost boring! every month is warmer then normal, so a broken record is almost normal I give my april a 9, for may starts also with sun, sun, sun and no rain is coming, so maybe we go the 50 days's dry? We will see Robbin

Cold air drainage in SoCal
by elHoagie- 11 replies
- 1.4k views
After the January cold, someone asked me about cold air drainage in SoCal (I think Matt in SD). He wanted to know why higher elevations in SoCal were warmer during the freeze, but in places like Oregon and Hawaii higher elevations are colder. To make a long story short, when there's a lot of clouds/moisture/wind in the atmosphere, then the temperature drops as elevation increases. But, on clear/dry/windless nights cold air drainage becomes important, and it can be warmer at higher elevations on hillsides. Anyway, it's been fun to track this at my new place in Los Angeles. I'm near the official recording station in downtown LA, but my elevation is 200m compared to …

Long and Lat 1 2
by wendisplantation- 61 replies
- 4.1k views
Hello all! I have a question re long and lat. Is it reasonable to expect that if I have a friend that is the same basic distance from prime meridian and equator, but opposite (me in the Northern hem and they in the southern) , that we could grow similar things, altitude being similar as well? I realize there is a lot more to it than just that, but I am curious if one could use long and lat to judge whether or not to TRY a particular species. There are so many plams that I want to try, but I have to pick and choose wisely because my makeshift greenhouse is fills up fast when 'winter' is coming.... Thanks ???

I have read some things that maybe april gonna completly dry... i know it's a long time to go .. but if that happends thats the first time in history ... And i looks like next week still also dry because new high pressure systems build up ...

It is an honour to start this thread and I would like to say it's so beautiful outside that is health threatening to be at work today. Low 80s today and tomorrow with a twist: Sat and Sun highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s, bottoming out possibly at 43ºF. Not too bad enough to start a "Florida Scare #4" but I have to hold on to my rendas one more week.

The AP had this story, and we tend to hear quite a bit about it. Do you think it's alot of political/ News Media hype? Or do you think it's real? Scientists Predict Southwest Mega-Drought Added: Apr 8th, 2007 1:42 PM Climate models indicate region will be as dry as Dust Bowl for decades The Associated Press WASHINGTON - Changing climate will mean increasing drought in the American Southwest — a region where water already is in tight supply — according to a new study. “The bottom line message for the average person and also for the states and federal government is that they’d better start planning for a Southwest region in which the water resources are increa…

Hey Jim: Since I pretty much consider you the native weatherman on TX , what's your outlook on this weekend? ??? I hear of a front coming in with lots of rain here in Houston. Wasn't liking the sound of it since my folks are coming in from Baton Rouge and we were going to hang by the pool and enjoy Easter. And not to mention I've pulled some palms out of protection and might need to do some shuffling. Is it going to be as bad as this last storm? Thanks, Michael
