Hi, About storms, there is a change that Holland get's his first storm this autemm season. The card's don't know for sure, and the one moment we gonna get very strong winds and other moment there is nothing left. This maybe storm are the pieces left from Ex hurricane Noel. At now the say, the northeast of the country get's the most wind (I live southwest), and it's not to strong. Maybe wind speeds to 80 km/per hour = 50 Mph and maybe some strong gust to 100 km/per hour = 62 Mph.

Determine Your Coldhardy Zone

The common zone maps weren't quite detailed enough for me, and I had to get the real info. My low temps always lined up closely with my zipcode at weather.com. I wanted to find out what my winter lows were historically in order to really know what to expect as an average. After digging around, weatherunderground seems to have the info I was looking for. Here's the first step: Go to weatherunderground.com, and type in your zip code, city, or even closest airport code. I hi-lited the important boxes to fill with a yellow box

There is alot of discussion on this Board about Zone 11. The definition of Zone 11 seems nebulous at best when it discusses "an average minimum temperature of 40 degrees F."What does that mean? The last time I remember it dropping below 40 degrees F. in this area was 1989.(Palm Beach)At anyrate, the National Arbor Day Foundation completed an extensive revision of this map ,which is available on the Wikipedia Hardiness Zone article. This article also lists the Hardiness Zones for numerous American cities. In California,San Diego,Los Angeles and San Francisco are identified as Zone 10. The only American cities designated Zone 11 are Miami,Florida and Honolulu,Hawaii. As it rel…

A New Cold Front Sweeps Through 1 2
by _Keith- 61 replies

Another quickie front will bring ours lows to 38 tonight in So. Louisiana. This is colder than normal for us, but not severe. These early cold snaps start the harden off process for us, so I don't mind them at all. It is back to the 80s again in a few days, but I was out eating some Citrus off the tree and all I can say is brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

NWS is forecasting a strong off shore episode for next week that could potentially create dangerous high fire conditions. The computer models are predicting the formation of a cold trough in the Gulf of Alaska moving inland over the PacificNW and then into the Great Basin [Nevada/Utah]. This cold and mostly dry air may push southwestward into So. California as strong and quite dry winds. Because the upper air system will likely be quite cold, a cool santa ana event may occur. Where it is windy the night temps will remain mild but in wind protected areas the minimums may drop into the 40's or lower! Day temps should stay near normal [70's] though initially be somewh…

It May Rain in California
by happ- 9 replies
- 1.8k views
The computer models are all over the place with different opinions on the hour  but the chance for some rainfall looks good. On Sunday evening a disorganized storm will affect So. Cal. If the system moves out over the ocean bight it will pickup moisture. This scenario will hopefully mean rain [.10 to .50] for everyone ex deserts The gloom has gone [& put out the last fire - Santiago canyon. Expect wind but overall next week will be perfectly sunny & warm Bay Area/Nor Cal should have good chance of rainfall, also.

First Cool Front 1 2 3
by NBTX11- 100 replies
- 6.6k views
Usually the first cool front of the season pushes through sometime in October, dropping overnight lows into the 50s for the first time in about 6 months or more. So far, no cool fronts, and none projected in the forecast. Last year it looks like the first front pushed through in mid Oct. This year we are still in summer mode...so the question is, when will the first real cool front of the fall push through and let us upen our windows at night for the first time. Everything is still growing like it would in summer...is refreshing air just around the corner... Oct 07 Hi Lo 1 90 74 2 90 74 3 89 69 4 89 64 5 90 66 6 90…

S. FL freeze !!??!? 1 2
by surgeon83- 49 replies
- 3.5k views
As I have mentioned before, I am hoping to move to FL next spring, but the question is where (and it partly depends on where I get interviewed). Anyway, althought my first choice has been Tampa (or perhaps commute from St. Pete), I am again considering Miami but I started looking into real estate in outlying towns to save money and get out of the ghetto. Tamarac, FL seems like a pretty clean place from the pictures I've seen BUT.... Weather.com says it got down to 21 there in 2/1995- and froze two other nights (at LEAST that were record-breakers) in that same month!!! Then in 2/1996 it froze three more nights that were record-breakers (low ->23). Pic…

At 8:04PM Pacific time we had a 5.6 magnitude quake here in the South Bay Area. Things shook pretty well with pool water splashing out, palms quivering, and lights swinging. Hopefully damage reports are minor and few. Any of my fellow Bay Area palm lovers experience it?

Howdyall: In the horror of the past week I'd forgotten about another nasty fire, in Berkely Hills, near San Francisco. This was a NASTY fire, 3,000 homes lost, 25 people killed, $1.15 billion in damages. I'm sure the No-Callians will have some memories of that. I do, too. I remember my skin crawling in horror at the spectacle of those flames headed towards those nice houses. Here are some links, which speak for themselves.

The Aftermath.....
by PalmGuyWC- 3 replies

I've been paying attention to the weather since I first read Happ's warning on Oct.20th, that something bad was on the way. Sure enough, a fire was reported in the Malibu hills on Sunday, and soon fires were poping up everywhere in S. Calif. I've been glued to the T.V ever since. Between Fox, CNN, and MSNBC the reporting has been very good. Your messages on "Palms on Fire" and other threads has filled in the blanks and who was affected. I realize there are still fires not under control, but things seem to be more stable this morning. I think all of us who are not directly affected would like to hear your stories of what you did, and how it affected you. Did you evacuat…
