SE Pre Winter Forecast.

I tend to keep on eye on what Joe Bastardi says when it comes to patterns. He has pretty organic forecasting in this regard IMO. He's calling for a pretty cold and wet(snowy ) winter for the those of us in the SE. If you planted some marginal stuff this year thinking it's gotta be better then last year's brutal winter might get ready to do some winter protection: These are all from Joe Bastardi's Twitter Page

Tropical depression Gordon

Darn Gordon. Gone crazy up here. Rained out the final round of pga golf today jet stream is all wonky. We went from 31c a couple days ago to 15c highs last two days and 12c at night pretty rare temps. Then when Gordon is gone back up to 28c. Crazy. I brought my container ranch in to my Palm room for the winter and a couple of my potted palms. The cold east winds are brutal. I also sprayed anti transparent on my outdoor palms to get them through these few days until it warms up. Wilt pruf should help them get through the cool rains coming from Gordon tonight and tomorrow

Lots of Rain falling on the Moose Land. Could be up to 4' before the day is through. Spread 6 cu yards of "green mulch" from my pruned mango and avocado trees last month. Observed at least 6 different species of mushrooms popping up. The soil and earthworms must be happy.

The fire smoke has been so bad this summer that even the moon is orange. Good news is the winds are changing tonight with offshore winds blowing all that smoke away. Hugh cool down also. Sorry, not the best picture but you get the idea.

It is still too early to discern all the damage from the recent freeze but here is what is apparent thus far. Lows were 28,22,28 with a 24 hour freeze duration at my place in far S.E. Houston. Much of Houston had 18-20. I have not been around town yet to survey the damage, just around my house and neighborhood. Palms Chamaedorea metallica dead Chamaedorea plumosa dead Chamaedorea cataractarum dead Chamaedorea radicalis untouched Sabals - louisiana, mexicana, minor, all untouched Acoelorrhaphe wrightii- untouched Rhapidophyllum hystrix - untouched Phoenix canariensis - some foliage damage Serenoa repens silver- untouched …

Hope not, but it looks like Hawaii might at least get brushed with this now-cat-five monster. How do you say, praying for your safety in Hawaiian? http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/38890702/hurricane-watch-issued-for-hawaii-maui-counties-as-lane-nears-state "Lane is forecast to move dangerously close to the main Hawaiian Islands as a hurricane Thursday through Saturday, potentially bringing damaging winds and life-threatening flash flooding from heavy rainfall," the Central Pacific Hurricane Center said, in its latest update.

Brownsville Climate 1 2 3
by LF-TX- 2 followers

Texas, being a big state, has a wide range of climates. You have arid towards the west, subtropical towards the east, colder temps north, and warmer temps south. For a long time I’ve been questioning Köppen’s classification for Brownsville / Eastern Cameron county. At NOAA’s averages for this area, we fall into a subtropical climate. Now, what troubles me is the plain, visible differences in the vegetation of Brownsville/surrounding areas to that of areas outside of the lower RGV. For those that have visited/ are natives to this area, it’s clear that Brownsville is visibly a lot more tropical that most areas of the Valley outside of the Lower Valley. Once you leave north …

Hi! Do you have in your countries of African heat? Because in Europe the temperature reaches above +40 Celsius and I admit that I have sincere enough. Waiting with longing for autumn and cooling. In Spain, for example, two men have already died of stroke. I will not mention how animals (also wild) are tormented by the heat. There is not a gram of rain!

Palms, Dust, and Storms.. Scenes of Monsoon season 2018
by Silas_Sancona- 8 replies

After a swing and a miss.. and two big dust storms last night, the weather gods cooperated today and brought this summers first, widespread action across Phoenix. While i missed out on most of the better rain, which shut down Sky Harbor for a time, and also dropped half-dollar sized hail in Apache junction and East Mesa earlier, today's dust storm made for some decent pictures worth sharing.. Moisture hangs around through the week, and gives everything ( and everyone) a welcomed break from the summer torch fest. Storm today dropped temps 25+ degrees in less than 2 hours.. Humid and almost perfect out atm.. Just bring more rain next time Grainy pictures from last nigh…

Bright lights in the Sky
by Silas_Sancona- 0 replies

As someone who has studied weather about as long as i have all things green and leafy, i have always been fascinated by the countless ways the sky can offer up something interesting at any moment. From the look of frost on the ground at sunrise on a cold winter morning, to how menacing the sky can become while storm casing, and avoiding an approaching tornado and softball- sized Hail, there is always something worth looking up for. When it comes to some of the more"optical" things that appear above our heads, some, like Haloes and Rainbows are pretty common, others are rare enough that you'd have to be in the right place at the right time to observe. Some are so uncom…

Climate of the United States 1 2

I created my own climate classification map, since I find the majority of the other ones flawed. With the creation of this map, I considered both temperature and flora of a region. Please feel free to add your own 2¢. Cool Temperate Deciduous/Mixed Forest: Cold winter and mild summer climate. Occupies the Northern tier of the country from New England to California. Eastern Section is predominantly mixed while the Western section is more coniferous. Warm Temperate Deciduous/Mix Forest: Cold winter and a hot summer climate. Located south of the cool temperates. More Deciduous than the cool temperates except in Southern NJ, Long Island and in the piedm…

As you might know by now, there's been a terrible wildfire in southern Greece, which looks all too damn familiar to us here in California. @Phoenikakias, are you okay over there? June 2018 was one to remember for RGV residents. For those who weren’t aware of what occurred in the RGV during late June, a huge deluge game and gave just about the whole region a measure of rainfall. Cities such as Los Fresnos, Harlingen, Mission, and Weslaco saw half a year’s worth of rainfall in a period of three days. While the rain was much needed, the usual of Valley rainfalls occurred, it came in torrents and without let up. Therefore, flooding occurred in areas where most residents felt as if they were reliving the days after Hurricane Dolly (2008) dropped large amounts of rain into their neighborhoods. Thankfully, the rain has brought drought levels to rock bott…
