Always looking for suspected climates that may support Cocos nucifera at greatest latitude from the equator. We know the Newport Beach, California Coconut at 33/37 North was the certified specimen in the northern hemisphere until it’s demise. No update on the status of the La Quinta Coconut at 33/6 has been provided. The Corona California Coconut needs to be genetically tested to confirm that it is not an interesting hybrid at 33/87. Port Elizabeth, SA at 33/99 is said to have specimens of Cocos nucifera. Although no pictorial evidence has been presented, a review of its climate and understanding of unique warmth in the surrounding water makes it a real possibility. …

There's several more days of rain expected . I've had about 5.6" here since last Friday , including one burst of 3.2" in a little over one hour . That caused some localized flooding here in Holly Hill . During that one , some water got into the garage , which unfortunately sits below the elevation of the house and driveway . Here just north of Pensacola, FL we experienced some pretty big floods yesterday. Up to 5+ inches of rain fell over my area in under 2 hours yesterday. I have some pics of the flooding in my front yard in which was passed on to the NWS Mobile, AL. Before i upload the pictures i have to download them on my computer so it will be a bit. The flooding may not look bad to you, but i live on the highest point in my neighborhood so this is usually not a big problem.

Some photos of the garden on what's been a near perfect early Summer's day. High of around 24C (75F), and not too humid. Been quite a bit of rain in the past two weeks so everything is growing like mad. Wintered over the banana trunk and one leaf with some polyester frostcloth, which allowed it to take off again since September. This trunk has been going since November 2016 so must flower soon. R. I took a trip down to Pensacola Beach yesterday ane picked up about 6 sabal seeds, i dont want an overload of sabals, but i need some tips on how to do this. I also bought another queen, almost all strap leaf, first frond with pinnate leaf is coming in. Ill have pics of both here in the next hour or so.

Florida is in a drought!

Almost all of the state of Florida is in a drought now. The drought is only getting worse as burn bans are put in place not long ago. My queens are doing fairly well but i have noticed a bit of yellowing lately on the tips. Likely from being so dry, i have tried to water it everyday but sometimes i cant. They are still trucking along though after a warmish winter for this area. How is your area doing? I do know that digging a hole is worthless here in the panhandle at this point. We need a good washout!

Anyone else noticed how dry and hot it’s been in Florida recently! I’m in sw/ central coastal Florida I don’t remember last time we got a beneficial rain or even a cloud in the sky for that matter. 10 day forecast not a chance of rain all sunshine with temps in upper 80. I know all the talk is about this terrible virus right now but have the feeling going to be a very tough wildfire season. Usually summer rains don’t arrive round my area till mid june being close to coast any storms form more inland.

Here just northeast of Pensacola, FL, i am very impressed with how winter 2019-2020 turned out. Our lowest low was 23 degrees based on data from NAS Whiting Field. We did have several nights in the low to mid 30s with some nights dipping into the upper 20s, only one time did it ever drop below 25 degrees. The average minimum temp for the month of January was 45 degrees, and the average maximum temp for the month of January was 64 degrees. Correct me if im wrong but we had a 9a winter up here this year!

According to my weather station, the coldest it got was 24.1ºF on the night of this past Thursday. Thanks to my microclimate, we stayed a few degrees warmer than what was reported from downtown and near the airport.
